I must be a snob!

You must swear to use your newly-acquired god-like powers only for good, and never for evil. Otherwise we'll have to disable your account.;)

We're all Disney snobs here! Except that there must be a better word for it. Perhaps Disney connoisseur -- yes, I like that one. (Even erikthewise had to look up the spelling on that one!)

you just want an excellent Disney experience. I'm a snob though - want to know why? Okay - my husband and I started going to Disney in 1994 (I went as a child but it was his first time) and we've gone at least once every year since. We started staying at All Stars. Then, we moved up to the moderates. Now, I'm a deluxe resort snob. Gotta' stay at a deluxe. Using a discount code of course, no rack rates here!

Sometimes I feel bad about it because I remember staying at CBR and CS and loving it. Why must I be so picky. Can't help it. We love YC/BC. It's our favorite by far. Other deluxes we've tried are Contemporary and Grand Floridian. I guess I could go back to a moderate - but I'm not so sure.

NOW, that's spoiled and snobbish.

We're going on a DCL cruise in December and wanted to fly to Orlando the day before, in case of bad weather. I was planning to stay at an airport hotel for about $125.

Well, after the DISBoards I've now booked 1 night at AKL, Deluxe, Savannah view, Concierge, for $685 incl taxes. Who to I call at DISBoards to share the costs? ;)

I don't think it's snobbish. Snobbish means that you would look down at people who do not share your "Deluxe" views. You are not doing that, you just have different level of expectation. That is the reason they have different resorts, for different tastes.

Now Spoiled is another matter:p My husband is always telling me that I am spoiled - oh well, so what! Enjoy it :)

We did not always stay in Deluxe resorts, but we always have fun no matter where we stayed........theres just different kinds fun

I can honestly tell you that we did not always have money to burn. And our biggest vacation one year was to Amish Country and we really stretched it! We always look back on those days and we were always happy and alwyas had fun...Its just a state of mind.

I know the feeling! I too am a snob. I think I'm hiding it from my DH, but he knows! For 25 years I went to Disney with my family while visiting my Grandmother in FL. We never stayed at Disney because we would only go for one day. A few years back I stayed off-site at a Holiday Inn and thought it was wonderful to be so close to Disney! Another time I got a great rate of $39 a night offsite. Then it happened. A few years back my DH had a conference and we got to stay at CS. Well, I loved it. I loved everything about that trip. Last year we moved up to BC concierge since they had an AP special. Well, now we're going again next month for the same conference again. The conference is at the CS, however that's now not good enough for me. I need to experience more! So, I'm staying at the AKL for 3 nights and the GF for 3 nights. Fortunately, the company is paying for this trip, but we do have to pick up the difference with the GF. I'm excited to stay at both of these resorts, but I've already been planting the thought of staying concierge in my DH's head! I drop little hints here and there about how wonderful I hear that the concierge level is, etc, etc! I think he's on to me though! I feel I won't be satisfied until I've stayed at every resort concierge level to experience the "magic"! And I thought it was just me!:D

I feel like the Disboards are like an AA meeting...

Hi, my name is Becki (pause) and I'm a Disneyaholic!!

It certainly is an addiction, but a very positive one!!

Have you heard the expression

"Ignorance is Bliss"?

It means the less you know the better ~ like when you stay offsite and have no idea what you are missing..

And now another expression

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

You have skyrocketed from a moderate onsite to Concierge/Savanna...lol

hard decisions ahead my friend ~ I'm sure alot of us on the board can relate to what you are saying... I don't know what the answer is but I am certain you are not a snob.. you are just human.

>>^..^<<

Ignorance was bliss!! :) or at least cheap....

Just think that I have gone from off-site(this visit) to planning to stay on site (next visit) concierge and I haven't been there in 17 years... :)

vbfamily- We were thinking about eating at one of the restaurants... Any recommendations? I do know we are going to go to the Boardwalk and if I can talk DH into it a DVC tour...

I would suggest trying Jiko at AKL because you can see the resort while you are there. You may want to bring your bags with you because you may want to check in :D

I would definately try something in a resort because then you get to see it and maybe decide you want to stay there next time.

Take the DVC tour, it's pretty harmless. You'll be able to determine if it is right for you or not.

Have fun.

>>^..^<<...and Knowledge is powerful...and contageous! You are so correct.

It all began so innocently. We were "upgraded" at a resort to CL...and voila, we could never go back. We began 17 years ago...in moderates, and now we only stay in WDW (& elsewhere) premium/deluxe resorts (using discounts when applicable)...and always CL/suites when available. We have made 17 trips to WDW, and each year we reach for more of the brass rings. We rent luxury cars, use valet, and purchase premium annual passports for use once per year @ WDW. We fly only first class...(this began years ago...and then it was too difficult to go back to coach...same thing as the resorts)...non-stop on Delta to WDW, and use airline miles when possible to "upgrade" to this level of comfort.

It's funny how before we were even "aware" of these levels of service, we were completely happy and contented with our little "corner room" in Dixie Landings, our compact rental and our coach seat! Don't get me wrong...I'd still be thrilled with all of these things, as I have an affinity for the past and times we've enjoyed/shared together. Although, over the years...the more we have been exposed to, the more we desire to experience it again...and again. It seems more a matter of "continuity" than snobbery.

"When there's a WILL, there's a WAY" is certainly a telling aphorism. Because, I plan our sojourns 11+ months in advance, and give ample time to obtain the very best we can afford. Our once meager vacations of 10-14 days, have ballooned into a 7+ week annual summer affair! LOL. I even dislike, and am reluctant to tell friends/family the details of our trips...as just hearing myself speak aloud of all the places/plans...seems braggadocio. :o Even though, I know others are enjoying the same...as I have read all the posts!

So happy to read all the wonderful posts on this thread, and of the similar sentiments about WDW and the BEST life has to offer. After all..."PLAY...IS VERY SERIOUS WORK". ;)

I used to be a travel agent and often was upgraded to first and business class - especially welcome on the international flights to/from Europe

Now that I know what goes on behind the little curtain it is painful to sit in coach and I resent those people up there LOL

But it is also painful to pay for it now... when it was free back then...

Sometimes I wish I didn't know so much and crave the days of innocence.

I admit, I'm a DS (Disney snob), too. Today, thought, with another 12" of snow predicted for the DC area, I'd take any room or pay any price just to go!!!!!!

MLAinVA

You are so right -- with another 12 inches of snow coming, I'm ready to go back to Florida. I was in Florida the week of the BIG storm with my daughter and my 2 granddaughters (we had left on Saturday). I missed the entire storm and wish I was missing this one too.

If we leave right now......we could be there in 15 hours. Maybe we like Disney so much because we don't hear about streets that haven't been plowed or the potholes. LOL

LOL...me too! DD always feels badly for the folks in coach, and does not understand why "everyone" isn't treated the "same"? Especially the "first time" she traveled in First class. She actually thought the entire plane was the same. I realized this when she remarked about the made to order ice cream sundaes, and how the food had changed since our last flight. I then explained it was because our seats we in a different section. She looked at me puzzled and said, "everyone does not receive these sundaes/food?" I answered, "no." She looked distraught, and said, "that's not right. Everyone should receive the same service." I only wish it were so...and we all received "first class" service, w/o having to pay so much extra.

You were SO fortunate to receive FREE UPGRADES to FC! Ahhh....even when I tap the skymiles, they still force you to use a special "coded upgradable" fare, the lowest of which has been about $900.00 RT. Not bad, when the full fare is over $3000.00 RT! I'd never pay it w/o skymiles....That would be about $10G for the three of us...LOL, pure insanity! We've flown w/plenty of celebs "up behind the curtain" and most are very nice and polite. I agree, business class to Europe is the only way to fly overseas!

Hey, I miss the snow! I'm in So. Cali, and about 50 minutes from DL. We NEVER see snow...except when we travel to the mountains. We're going to DL in a few weeks, because they're currently offering Southern Cal. residents 2-days/2-parks for the price of one day admission! GREAT DEAL, and a good fix until FLORIDA in JUNE!

;)

I feel like the Disboards are like an AA meeting...
No- more like the Disboards is "Cheers" and the Resorts forum is the bar...I myself prefer Norm's barstool.

This is the same with me. We originally booked a cruise and were thrilled with that. Then I found these boards and realized I couldn't go all of the way to Florida and NOT go to WDW... then being so thrilled to find the AStars... nope not good enough. Learned about AKL now must stay part of our stay at AKL and of course it must be concierge. However, I think I have talked myself out of concierge but can want a savannah view.

It is too funny the effect these boards have on one person!

:p

I am a TA, and although you do not make much money, the perks are great we save a lot of money on travel. As a matter of fact, people are doing a lot of "last minute" travel, which is a different trend. It used to be people booked 6 - 8 mos in advance. Not anymore, now its 2-3 weeks in advance - which is kind of tough. Last month I booked 4 trips - 2 are mine (and 1 of mine is Atlantis/Disney combo trip)!

If I ever quit, I would also miss FC - there is a big difference I would find it very hard to give that up.

Our noses are high in the air too!!!

My sister in law's family went to WDW last year for four days and stayed off site. We humored them when they told us about how there was no way they would spend those "outrageous" rates just to stay on WDW property. They told us where they stayed off site and we got a good laugh when we looked it up on the internet and found that they had spent MORE money than we did at our WDW hotel!!

We feel pretty confident that if you do not stay on site, it just isn't a true WDW vacation!!

Disney is an addiction that can take over your life! (trust me I know ;)) People always ask me if I'll ever get sick of going... I just don't see it happening. Thank goodness for the DIS so we can all come here and share our insanity.
