I made a huge life decision!!I choose disney and life.

I also think thats a great choice. As an ex-smoker myself, I wish you luck; however, why not chuck those two cartons of smokes now? Why wait until they are used before you quit. Chuck them and quit now.
Good Luck! :thumbsup2

I agree...get rid of them now. If they are full cartons that is 20 packs...if you smoke 1 pack a day...that is 20 more days that you are poisoning your lungs and body. I know it's a lot of money...but aren't you worth it? Isn't Disney worth it?

Good for you!! :thumbsup2

Speaking as a former smoker (smoked for almost 19 years...started when I was in 7th grade :sad2: ) who hasn't had a cigarette in over 3 years, you can do it!! :cool1:

I did buy a pack of the Nicorette gum to have on hand but I only used it a couple of times when it got very bad (if you ask my kids and DH, very bad is likely a serious understatement, LOL but that all passed!).

:wizard: Good luck! :cheer2: We will be cheering for you! So, have you decided to get a jar to put the money that you would have spent on the smoking habit (it would be a great way of having $$$ for Disney)?

I agree. Save all that money for your trip. You will surprised how much you saved. When a family friend quit smoking he saved all the money he would have spent on smoking for a year. In just that one year he was able to buy himself a new car!

Congratulations on your choice. :cheer2: Good luck! :thumbsup2

Best of luck to you! I think that lifestyle changes are most successful when done on your own terms. So if smoking those last 2 cartons are what you need to do then go for it. I do agree with others that talking to your dr. about one of the prescription meds to help you might be a good idea as well! I've know several people who have had a great deal of success with the Wellbutrin!

:cheer2: GREAT NEWS!!! :cheer2:
You can do it! What a great incentive too. My incentive to lose weight is also going to Disney, it's a great motivator. Here's to a healthier life :thumbsup2

I agree with this! I quit while using Wellbutrin 5 years ago and it really helped me. There's no way I could do it cold turkey, and having to toss those 2 cartons would be doing it cold turkey. You have a goal in mind and know what you need to do to reach it. Good for you!! One other thing you need to make sure of is the guys/girls at work support you - it will be hard to be around the other smokers all day. Especially being outside, unless the FDNY has some sort of rule that you can't smoke while on duty?

You CAN do it and you will be surprised at the difference it makes in your life. I quit 10 years ago. Oh, and make sure you tell your wife that the first week you will be a miserable bear to live with and to remember that you love her ;)

good luck ... a bit of advice if you use wellbutrin don't take any sinus meds with it it will make you very nauseous. I tried just about everything and alas have not been successful .... stress is the killer when you are trying to quit ... good luck to you a trip to disney is a great incentive.

Good luck to you, and congratulations on making that decision! It will be life-changing :teeth: :wizard:

Another uplifting story for you:

My DH was a pack and a half a day smoker, and when we started dating he decided I might try to start up (which was strange because my previous boyfriend was a heavy smoker too and I never did), and he was scared for me, so he quit cold turkey (well with the help of the patch for a couple of weeks) and twelve years later he is smoke free!

As someone who just lost a DC on Monday to lung cancer at the age of 39 you really need to quit.
I have been smoke free for 2 yrs and I feel so much better. It is hard but you can do it.The craving for one only lasts a minute or so and just breath through it and then you will be OK till the next and do it all over again.
If you are truly ready and want to quit you can quit,if not you want.
Wellbutrin is Wonderful for that,I can smell a cigarette and it makes me wanna throw up.
Everything will taste so much better when you quit.
You will not be smelling like a nasty cigarette anymore. It will also be nice for your DW who doesnt smoke, you might get alot more kisses from her  .
Good luck and you can do it :thumbsup2

Best of luck. Your wife must love you a lot and is a smart lady to offer Disney as an incentive. Her reward will be the best though to have a healthier husband. :thumbsup2

Congratulations on your extremely smart decision!!!!!

When I quit I would have been devastated if I hadn't been able to smoke those last cigarettes in the carton - knowing they were coming to an end really helped me know the last one was near. So two cartons won't really make much difference to your health. I'd say smoke them knowing they are the last ones - it really helped me to be able to see them going one by one. Sort of got me used to the idea, so to speak.

The other thing I did was go to the grocery store and stock up on junk food, especially salty chips and dip, and hard candies. I really needed to keep my nouth busy!!!!! I was fine after four days, and haven't touched a cigarette in 18 years. Oh, wait, I take that back - I usually smoke one when my old high school friends get together - I can take one or two drags before I have to throw it away.

Seems to me having good health and a long life should be enough of an incentive to quit smoking. My father smoked and had a heart attack at 50 and died at age 56. However, whatever helps you quit is a good thing. Good Luck

May I suggest a website that helped me alot when I was quitting. http://www.whyquit.com It has alot of info about what smoking does to your body and many many helpful folks on the message boards. Good Luck to you!

That's wonderful!!! Both of my father's YOUNGER sisters died of smokeing related illness, they were both in their 50's at the time. My father quit when he was in his early 30's and is now in his late 60's. If he hadn't quit smoking, I'm sure he'd be burried next to his sisters by now.

Plus, the added bonus of going to WDW!
