Hello all...I just got a call from my SIL. She knew that I had been trolling around the DISboards for a couple weeks, and she asked "have you seen the W.I.S.H. boards?!?!!? They are really cool! You should check it out!"
So here I am. I took a quick look around, and already I love it! I love that there is a message board like this!

Here's a brief history:
To start off, I'll say I've probably tried every plan out there, and lost a little here and a little there, but always put it back on.
SO now at 31, I've finally realized that it's time to make a real commitment. A commitment to live my life differently. Not a "diet", not a "weight loss plan", but a whole new way of life. So while eating differently and exercising more are both part of this, there has to be more. I have to change my mindset.
So that's where you all come in. Where I'm hoping you can help. Just reading here has been a big motivation on a day that I was feeling a bit shakey. The vending machine here at work has been screaming my name all morning! LOL
So here we are. I started with the low carb wol/woe in February of this year. I started at almost 300 pounds. When I'm following it faithfully, it's the best I've felt physically in 10 years! I have more energy, and all of the pains associated with being heavy (leg pain, back pain, fatigue, etc) just seem to MELT away!!! And so do the pounds! Between February and July, I lost 40 pounds! I was so proud to fit into a smaller size jeans...got a new haircut, the works!
But then something happened, work got hectic, family issues got stressful (and I could probably name a few other "excuses") and I fell off track. And I just never got back on track. So I'm ashamed to say that I have gained back almost 10 pounds of the weight I lost. The new size jeans are tight, and I don't feel good.
So I'm ready to get beack on track. But it's so difficult to get motivated. I know I can do it! I did it before. My body is begging me to get back on track. I'm achey all the time again, it's really difficult to get out of bed in the morning, etc, etc...all of the signs my body is giving me are so blatently obvious.

So hopefully here is where I turn over a new leaf! And hopefully I can get the support I need to do that here! I've seen how wonderfully supportive you all are, and I think that's just what I need!

If you've gotten this far in my post, I thank you for reading my seemingly endless babble. But maybe making a statement like this to others who are going through/have been through this will help to affirm my intentions.

My original goal earlier this year was to lose 140 pounds. I had gotten that down to 100 pounds left before "the fallout". So I'm back to 110 left to lose.

Finally, just a quick question. Do you find it easier to break up large goals into smaller ones? I was thinking of breaking into smaller, maybe 20 or 25 pounds at a time. What are your opinions of that?

OK, now I will shut up!
Thanks so much!

Christal, welcome to the WISH board! I don't think you'll find a more supportive and helpful group of people anywhere!

I know what you mean about the low-carb eating helping you physically feel better. I became convinced I needed to eat low-carb when a long-standing problem with acid reflux went away within days of starting to eat low-carb. Of course, every now and then I slip into my old ways and remind myself, once again, how awful I feel when I stray. You would think I'd know better by now, but apparently it's a lesson I need to keep relearning. :p

I know the challenges here keep things interesting for me. They are short term challenges that you share with others. At the moment, I'm working on the August exercise challenge - I'm going to exercise 1000 minutes during the month of August. ::yes::

I do think you should break your loss down into smaller goals, so you have milestones to celebrate along the way. We love to help celebrate mini-goals around here! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

If you'd like to keep a journal of your journey and get more daily support, feel free to start a journal on the WISH Journal board. I've learned a lot from journaling and from reading the journals of others.

Best wishes for success and glad you're joining us on the healthy living road!

Welcome to the WISH board Christal! You will find so much support here. Dorreen really says it all. A journal is a great way to keep on track. It's also nice to read other journals. You will meet many great supporters on these boards. We're all here for the same reason. Not only weight loss, but healthy living. The challenges make it fun and competitive for yourself. You've come to the right place. Good luck with your healthy living journey. Smaller goals are a nice thing to have, and you will see the clipart for your signature makes it fun to display when you reach milestones!

Christal - another welcome to WISH!!!! This is a great place to get support and encouragement. I started out with similar stats as yours. I was 282.5 pounds the day I signed up for WISH this past December. As of Sunday I have been on this eating plan for 8 months. I have gone from wearing a size 26 jeans to a size 14 jeans. I know the success I have experienced is due in large part to the support I get from my WISH buddies.

Everyone here is so helpful and friendly. When you need gentle support they give it and when you need a good kick in the booty, they can give you that too! As has already been mentioned the challenges are a great way to keep yourself motivated as is keeping a journal. The clippies are the coolest thing and it's fun to add exercise, weight loss and other clippies to your signature.

I'm on the South Beach Diet and like Doe mentioned, I knew eating low carb was for me when my terrible snoring and acid reflux disappeared the first night.

Congratulations on your loss so far! You can make it to your goal. I just know it. You sound determined and you've come to the right place for support.

I have broken my weight loss down in 10% increments to be able to celebrate victories along the way, encourage myself and make the journey a little easier. I reached my first 10% goal of losing 28 pounds, then my second of losing 25 pounds and hopefully when I weigh in tomorrow I'll be at my third 10% goal of 22 pounds! As I said breaking my goals down into manageable increments makes the journey seem a bit shorter somehow. I've still got about 65 pounds to go and know I'll reach my goal if I stay focused, determined and keep coming here for support.

Please post often so we can get to know you better!

Hi Christa,

WELCOME TO THE WISH BOARD:wave2: . NOw get yourself a WISH MEMBER CLIPART(or 30lb clipart since you have lost this already) - I love low carb too! The energy you speak of is amazing! and I feel great! I like to think of my plan(atkins) as a way of life - cause I will be doing it for life! As far as mini goals go - I celebrate(via a clippie) every 5lbs! I love to do the challenges on the board - they help keep you motivated and on plan. I also find exercise and drinking enough water EVERYDAY crucial! If I go 2 days w/o exercising I feel SICK! But the factor that most keeps me on plan is all the folks here on the WISH board.

AGAIN WELCOME!

Sue:D

Welcome to the WISH board. I've been wishing for 40 days and I really enjoy visiting this board everyday. The help and support here is fabulous. If you have a question, someone's always ready to with advice.

Hi Christal! :wave2: Welcome to WISH. I hope that you will find lots of success here at WISH ::yes:: You will certainly find a bunch of very inspirational, friendly WISHers, who will help you on your journey to a new you! :hyper:

Not to rain on your parade, but the weight loss clippies are for weight that has been lost AFTER joining WISH. Most WISHers put the weight that they have lost before joining WISH in their sig

Welcome Christa!
If you want to discover a new WOE (Way-of-Eating), you've come to the right place. You've already discovered the main reason for doing this --because you want to feel better!
You've gotten some great support from other WISHers, so I'll just add my suggestion of finding an exercise program that fits your needs. I'm part of the FIRM thread (along w/ several other supporters) that uses FIRM workouts. Come visit us at that thread, if you are interested. Or if the FIRM seems like too-big-a-step, consider starting w/ something like Walk-Away-the-Pounds. I believe that most sucessful WOE changes include some kind of exercise. Then even if you slip a little on the eating, you can balance it out through exercise. Plus nothing shows quicker results than a combo of sensible eating AND exercise.
Have a happy & healthy day! SGG

sorry about the clippie thing. didnt know the rule...sorry if i offended anyone. i took it off.

Christal - Welcome to WISH!! I'm sure you'll be making your way through the clippies soon! DO add how much yyou've lost pre-WISH tp your sig. It's something to be proud of!! (Like those mini goals to feel you've made it to your milestones!)

Good Luck!

I'm so sorry ChrizJen, I just re-read my last post to you. I didn't mean to come across sounding so pompous!! I for one am not at all offended that you used the 30lb clippie. We were all new here at one time, and I thought that you would want to know about the clippies. :hyper:

Congrats again on losing the weigh! :sunny:

Welcome Christal!

I'm new here as well...and as I read your story I completely understand where you are coming from and how you are feeling. We are about the same age.

Glad you are here and I hope we can help spur each other on! :D

Just wanted to send out a warm welcome to you. Everyone has given you such good advice thus far that I don't have anything to add. Just know that anytime you need support, to vent, or to rejoice, someone here will do it all with you:wave2:

Welcome to WISH, ChrizJen! I'm so glad you decided to join us. I had over 100 pounds to lose when I started my low carb life style over 18 months ago. I still have a ways to go but I feel better now than I have in many years.

You can do this, I know you can. We all plan to help you!

Katholyn

Welcome Christal,

Glad You Are Joining Us Here! You will get lots of support here.
You have done great already by losing 30 lbs. And made the right
choice to get back on program to take off the 10 you gained back.
It is a wonderful feeling to have a place to come when you have a slip up that you can tell about. Or a success to write about.

Good luck

July

Hi Cristal! :wave2:

Welcome to WISH and congrats on losing those 30 pounds!

Like Zeraspride, I make 10% goals as well. I think it is easier to focus on that closer goal, versus the big picture (and it's a big one here too!). I 'lost' my siggy somewhere in cyberspace, but I am working on my 3rd 10% goal. It's nice having a reward planned for each goal as well. ::yes::
