I love Peapod by Stop & Shop

Well, I have $103 in my cart and it's not taking my code! I spent several hours setting this up. ARGH! (We ordered once a year ago and I was prepared to do it again for the $15 off but otherwise the prices in the store tend to be better.) I have to think about whether I want to proceed with this one...I do have over $10 in coupons anyway, but...hmm...

I ordered from Peapod in the past. I then started comparing prices on the groceries to that of my bill and found a big discrepency. I called them on it and they said it says their prices are not the same as the store itself. Now this was a couple of years ago, so hopefully things have changed.

I LOVE Roche Bros. and they have advertised that their prices are the same as the store.

Try freedelivery, lower case all one word. I actually needed to call regarding m last order and it showed funny on the screen, but I did actually get the free shipping.

That's how it seemed a while ago. However, within the past year their prices have been the same as the in store flyer. In addition, they do have some web only deals as well.

That code didn't work...but thank you! I ended up calling this morning and they said they will apply a $15 credit to my account so I placed the order. I realized after I got off the phone that I didn't ask about the 60 days of free shipping but we'll see if I get that code once this is delivered.

In any case, between signing up for Direct Pay, selecting a greener delivery time for a discount, and having over $10 in coupons plus this credit, I am definitely satisfied with this go-round! We'll see how it pans out. I'm supposed to get the order between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. tomorrow.

I will say that they DON'T have the prices or selection of the store but I found enough things I either needed or was planning to get anyway. Milk for example is pricier than in the store. :confused3

So Glad I found this Thread!

I placed my first Peapod order yesterday. To be delivered between 6am-8am tomorrow! (I originally had today between 4 and 6:30, but I left the screen for a few hours to go a doctor appt and when I came back it was sold out for that time.)

I have a few questions:

1) Do you guys Tip the delivery guys? (If so how much?)
2) Do they bring it right into your house?
3) How do you guys pay? (I did credit card because it says that they do the extra 10% until they actually deliver and then they adjust..but I'm thinking that might take a few days so I was nervous using my debit card. And I started to do the direct from bank..but got nervous doing that too. I'm a wimp! I hate using a credit card to pay for groceries though.)
4)BigMama67? How did it work out for you?

I am finally starting to get my act together in 2011! Planning my families meals and trying to avoid eating out or getting take-out. I wish I had started a long time ago.

DH is totally against me doing this. Stop & Shop in my area is usually quite a bit more expensive then our other grocery stores..well really Market Basket.

But I figure that ordering online I can plan meals around sale items and like the OP said...avoid impulse buys and stick with the list. And as a HUGE bonus it's so much quicker and for them to deliver right to the house....nice!

So I am going to try it out and see how it goes. If it saves me money over what I usually do every week then I think it's a win-win!

I'm a little nervous on the quality of the meats and veggies...so we'll see how it goes.

I did buy my milk, bread and some instant smoothies at Costco yesterday. I had priced them online at Peapod and then when I went to Costco they were all cheaper...so I grabbed those. But even counting that....I was able to spend about $40 less this week then I normally do at Market Basket.

Yes, I tip $52) Do they bring it right into your house?
Yes, they bring it right into your house. They ask you where you want your bags put.

I do automatic debit from my checking account. You save $1 this way and they do not deduct it until your order is delivered and any coupons are applied.4)BigMama67? How did it work out for you?

I do the same. Milk/eggs/syrup from BJ's and just about everything else from Stop & Shop. I have it so I get a delivery every 2 weeks and that holds my family over. I plan my meals two weeks at a time. I hope you like it. I love it!

Just want to thank you all for your suggestions!

I got my first Peapod Delivery this morning at 6:20am! Which worked out perfect for me. Delivery guy couldn't have been nicer. I tipped him $5. He gave me a pamplet with information on free delivery for the next 60 days if I spend over $100.

The meat and produce look great! It was so nice not to have to drag everything in! And my savings over what I usually spend each week was more then $40. (Now that is because I tried to shop and plan my meals around their sales..but as the OP said...I didn't have impulse and temptation lurking and was able to see the amount I was spending each time I added to the cart.)

So thanks everyone! So far I would definitely recommend.

Yeah! So glad you like it. I work full time and don't get home until 6pm M-F so the last thing I want to do at night or on the weekend is drag two kids grocery shopping. Wish I could get free delivery for 60 days. ;)

Everything went smoothly with us too. DH and I checked against the list, everything was there...well, they did have to substitute regular tomatoes as there were no organic ones left but otherwise it was spot on! I also tipped $5. We weren't able to get an ETA on the driver online, but he did arrive 20 minutes before the end of our allotted time slot. I was quite pleased. I need to check my invoice to see if the coupons were taken off though...also there was no mention of the free 60 days. I'll wait and see I guess. I don't know if I'll do it on a regular basis but it was nice not to worry about impulse buying.

Just wanted to mention that if you do not want items substituted you can indicate that on your profile. I actually do not allow substitutions as I am brand loyal on quite a few things. How did you choose to pay? If it is by check they will deduct the amount from your checking account less the coupons.

Thanks for all the great info in this thread, I'm going to give in a try in the summer. I live on cape cod and I think the delivery fee will be worth avoiding the grocery store crowds. The back of the stop and shop receipts have been having peapod coupons, so keep your eye out for them.

Definitely worth it! That is how I first started myself. In addition to the coupons, if someone refers you, you get $10 off your first order as well.
