I had one bad experience flying out of Albany several years ago. I was not flying to Orlando. I stayed at a hotel right near the airport. It had a shuttle to the airport. I was in the lobby ready to leave but the shuttle driver decided he didn't feel like leaving yet. Apparently he didn't know -- or care -- that Albany had a large number of flights all leaving within a short time of each other.

Eventually someone else ended up driving the shuttle. When we got to the airport, she said, "Uh oh."

There was no curbside check-in. There was a long line to check my bag (because of all of the flights leaving at the same time). There was a long line at security (because of all of the flights leaving at the same time). By the time I got to my gate, they had already boarded about half of the plane. Obviously many of these factors could be different for you. My biggest takeaway was to look at how many flights will be leaving at about the same time as yours, and get to the airport at an appropriate time based on that.

I always wondered for airports with lots of different airlines flying out, is there an easy way to see how many flights are leaving at a certain time or do you need to just look up each airline?

Quick question for you, I am actually heading up to lake george this weekend and thinking about stopping at the race track on my way up. By any chance have you gone over to the track this season and if so how are the crowds this year?

I always wondered for airports with lots of different airlines flying out, is there an easy way to see how many flights are leaving at a certain time or do you need to just look up each airline?

I think most airport websites will list the departures and arrivals similar to the screens in the terminals.

We are staying away this year. Used to go with friends the first weekend in August for years. Saratoga Springs downtown is rough this year, fights, stabbings, demonstrations at night. State troopers and sheriff deputies are supplementing the city police on weekends. Pandemic is not under control enough for us. Covid positive rate today is 3.53%, up 1.37 from last week. Not bad, but heading up.

I try to arrive at the airport one hour before BOARDING time at Albany.

Not me, but both DS and his partner live in Queens (Astoria). Actually, both are the "product" of DVC parents. Additionally, DS was a summer intern at DL, All-American College Band. Since La Guardia is less than 2 miles away, they always fly from there.

Did you see that Southwest will start flying out of SYR on 11/14/2021? Nonstops to MCO and BWI.

I did! So excited!

Thanks, but one part of our trip falls near Columbus Day, and the prices for anything other than Blue Basic are still pretty steep.

Yes, they do jump beyond Blue Basic. We usually fly Southwest, but their prices have been very high lately too. There is so much demand.

I’m curious from anyone in HV, NYC, or Albany area which airport you find most convenient. I use to use Stewart but they still don’t have flights. Looking at westchester and Albany now but nyc airports not out of question if they are easy.

NYC here! We are in Manhattan so it's about even on travel time. LGA's new terminal is gorgeous and has great food and other options. I tend to favor JFK because it has more flights, so if you miss one or your flight gets canceled, you'll have other options. EWR is ok too, but the signage is sort of random and it seems like they change the TSA checkpoint just to mess with you. Pre-pandemic, JFK had the most flights and it seemed like there were hourly flights to MCO if you weren't picky about the airline. Now, I still tend to stick with JFK, and fly AA or JetBlue because I like their schedules and more non-stops. We flew Spirit once (it was fine, a lot cheaper for a last minute weekend trip) - it wasn't their fault but we had a massive ground delay and we sat at the gate for hours. The flight attendants were really nice, keeping our kids entertained. I've flown 5 round trips during the pandemic, between going to WDW and visiting my elderly parents out west, and have tried mostly to stick to AA where I have status - on some earlier trips in 2020, that meant having the middle seat blocked. Nowadays it's sardine class anywhere, but at least my legs have more room! (Also early boarding, better seating ... is worth the somewhat extra $)
