I love credit cards so much!

Another question for all you nurses. Would it be more beneficial for DD to volunteer at a hospital or to get her CNA before starting college. Which one do you think would increase her chances of getting into nursing school?

Just curious, those of you who track your budget, do you put your redeemed credit card offers in their respective category or do you balance it against your CC fees? For example, the Amex Exxon offers, would those go in your gas category or would you put in a category to offset your $95 fee?

I put it back into the spending category. So like all my Staples offers have gone back into the budget for my Disney 2019 line item.

Ugh, since I went to part time day shift 2 years ago the idea of working a night shift or even an extra day shift sounds like torture. :scared:. In fact I worked a stupid shift (midnight to noon--who does that!?) a few weeks back to help a friend and by the time I got to noon (26 hours of no sleep) I literally started crying and laughing simultaneously. I am not cut out for night shifts anymore. Haha!

This is me - I stay up long enough and I turn into a total hysterical mess - laughing, crying, general insanity. I worked overnights for a while in college, felt nauseated all the time during the weeks I was on nights. In grad school I worked 4-midnight (then did homework until 2 or 3am sometimes) and was sick constantly (but that might have been due to my little plague-rat toddler at the time too). Suffice to say that being in a job where I can indulge my body's preference for being an early riser rather than a night owl is a real blessing. Of course, I've worked until almost midnight the last 3 nights (and been back in the office by 8am the next day) so I'll be in hysterical territory if this keeps up for too many more days...

Most of the schools we toured did not recommend the CNA but they did want exposure to the field. My DD did a program at a local hospital for 2 weeks that introduced the students to various careers . She also did a program with NSLC (National Student Leadership Conference ) on nursing. It’s a summer program offered at a few universities with more exposure to the field. My daughter was able to work with the sim patients (electronic dummies) and delivered a sim baby. She loved it.

I just shared this last night: My family has 3 AmEx Platinums and 2 Rose Golds. The personal platinum needs to be cancelled soon to avoid the $550 fee, so because I was anxious, I used it to purchase a $200 Southwest Airlines gift card on January 1st, and it never triggered the credit. All of the other AmEx cards were used to purchase various airline gift cards on 1/2 and 1/3, all of which credited within 3-4 days. Because I still need to cancel that personal AmeX Platinum, I purchased another $200 Southwest gift card on 1/9, and the credit posted today.

Bottom line - I did not get my credit for a purchase on 1/1, but all subsequent purchases credited.

I always buy something to trigger the credit on Jan 1 each year. I'll get my money back that's for sure. Even if I have to fight for it. #cheapandproud

When are you going? I have a couple ADRs for late February that I’m going to cancel bc DH and the kids will not eat the food. (Yes, I’m mad at them lol.)
We are going 2/1. I’m actually also worried about the food offered. I kept our Kona Cafe just in case. I’m a very picky eater and the menu doesn’t appeal too much to me. I won’t eat at bog for dinner either

Does anyone have any insight on how this hobby affects mortgage applications? There is about a 50% chance that we'll be moving this summer and applying for a new mortgage sometime between May and July. I am thinking about applying for a CIP, but I'm nervous about how the extra HP will look on mortgage applications.

I started this hobby in April 2018 and am 3/24. Prior to that, I only had 3 cards, all 7-15 years old. Here are my full stats:

Amex Delta Gold: 2004
CF: 2007 (AU on DH's card)
Target CC: 2012
CSP: 4/18 (1/24)
CIC: 6/18
Arrival+: 8/18 (2/24)
BBP: 8/18
Amex personal gold: 9/18 (3/24)
Amex business gold: 11/18

But, since Amex has not pulled my credit for any 2018 applications, a mortgage bank would only see 3 CCs and 3 HPs in 2018:
Amex Delta: 2004
CF: 2007 (AU)
Target CC: 2012
CSP and HP: 4/18
HP only (from CIC): 6/18
Arrival+ and HP: 8/18
Amex personal gold: 9/18 (no HP)

I think, from Chase's standpoint, I could probably apply for the CIP now. It's a good time for me to apply, CC wise, because unfortunately I can easily meet the spend with childcare expenses and taxes. But, do you think an extra HP will affect my ability to get a mortgage this summer if needed? I know it won't bring my credit score down much, but will it make the bank ask questions about my credit report?

Hardly any snow at our house, but our power went out. The temperature was down to 64 before we left to go get lunch. Now we’re running to Staples to pick me up a $200 VGC and $100 Disney GC to finish out my staples offer. Hoping I can get DH to stop by BBY on the way back so I can buy a $100 Disney gc there with Swagbucks.
We just got a little snow but I'm losing big pine tree branches right and left from the weight of the ice. Can't let the dog out in the backyard. Thankfully none of them are close enough to the house to do damage but I'm going to have to figure out how to get these hauled away:(

The bank would be able to see the AMEX credit cards despite no hard pull, once they report to your credit report so like the AMEX gold definitely by now would be reported to your personal credit report. If I were you I would probably hold off on any new credit card applications until after your mortgage goes through. I know on my last mortgage application I had to state why I had gotten my last two credit cards, I just stated "travel reward credit cards" and the application went through without a problem, but those two cards were the ones I had opened in the last year. I think the general opinion is to open no new credit cards for 6 months to 1 year prior to a mortgage app, just to appear less risky to the undewriters.

We have seen some DP where legit business owners getting blindsided by recon questions and denied. Suggestion would be at the end where u have nothing to lose to talk to recon. Calling the regular rep, u find out ur reason of ur 7-10 days, if it's just verification, then it is simple fix. If it's not, u just wait for the letter... Knowing why u were denied, u can build ur case mentally and recon them.

But it's still up to u, u can call.

Oh I see, will call regular rep! Thank you! Sorry to be dense, by regular rep, do you mean the status line 800-432-3117 (or number at the back of Chase cards)?

Bummer! Yeah a lot of leaning pines on our roads, but no issues. I suspect I'll be on time for work tomorrow, unfortunately.

I do the same if I understand.
So for dis gift cards at Staples I put those into my Jan 2019 dis trip category and the rebate goes into that cat as well.
But if I get $40 back on $175 at ATT thru Amex or something I’d also put that into my Jan trip category, because I’d have to pay the att bill either way so I send the savings towards my trip fund.

Same. I’m waffling on it but Snow White is my faaavvveeee....

The program my dd wants to go into requires her to have her CNA prior to being admitted.

I’ve been pondering this too. I’m laying low on DHs in case we sell soon. I wasn’t doing this hobby at our last move, but I do remember having to state what each hard pull was for in a letter. There were no further questions after that.

I am a loan processor (or was LOL). you will have to write a letter or sign a form stating if each inquiry resulted in any new debt. If it’s already on your credit report, that is the end of it. If it’s not they will get a credit supplement to verify the balance and the payment. Unless uou have to have a manual underwrite they should really not care any further as long as they have the payment amount in your debts and a clean payment history. I’m guessing any of us here who churn have good enough credit that an automated approval should be easy.

Just booked our flights for our June visit to FL. I decided to use the SW GCs I got from AmEx so I wouldn’t have to keep track of them. Any suggestions for a beach location on Gulf, that’s not Clearwater since we did that last time, which is easy driving distance from Orlando for 3-4 nights? I am hoping they offer AP prices for the onsite Universal resorts since they are ridiculously priced at the moment.

Everything has changed so much with Chase/Disney and AMEX since I started following this thread in early 2018 when we got our first cards. I was gone for awhile and I have tried to catch up but there's so much I probably missed. I would like to get some new cards soon but I need some advice and suggestions of which cards I should consider next. Before the Chase/Disney shut down, I was planning to max out UR but now I don't know. Maybe a hotel card would be good since we travel a lot for sports and family events. I can always use some points for free hotel rooms. But I'm still mad about Disney. Should I stay with the UR Plan? Here's what we have:

ME: SPG biz - 4/18
CSR/CSP - 5/18

DH: Disney - 2/17
CIP - 3/18
CIC - 5/18

I have some hefty CL on my CSR/CSP cards. Should I decrease either/both of them before I apply for any new cards? If so, what is the recommended method to do that?

I guess the Chase rules are still 5/24 but now every Chase card counts? What about Chase business cards? Are there new rules on them? What about Amex cards, business and/or personal? I remember reading they tightened up the rules regarding churning the cards but the SPG biz is my first and only, so I was thinking that didn't apply to me.
