Airmiles Armchair Chatter

So after a very hectic 4-5 days of organizing and just getting things done, we have arrived at travel day. I'm sitting sipping my tea at the moment with my self tanner drying. Still need to go over to work to drop some things off and we are not finished packing. WHY is packing such an ordeal? I assigned DD to do it yet it's taken far too much time. Part of the problem being that I cheap'd out and bought the airfare that does not include carry on bags. Huge mistake that I will never do again. When I did check in last night I upgraded seats to extended comfort, to the tune of $148, just to get the carry on bag. However, we are only bringing one because I only get 2 free checked bags coming home. So checking one going south and will have to check the carry on as a second coming home. Rethinking it all now, I should have just paid for a second checked bag :sad2: Anyhow...live and learn.

I realized that I never came back to update the AM booking saga. Were we last left off I had received a message saying to copy down the reservation number and I would get me info within 24hrs. I checked my mail probably every 15 minutes all day long and never got anything. So after work I called and sat on hold for 70 minutes. Got a fantastic person who goes though things and says there is no booking. It didn't go through. Yikes! So I then ask about canceling the WJ booking, I'm still within the 24hrs, so that I can rebook as a round trip which would now be the better option miles wise. The AC flight that I wanted had gone up 1400 miles. She checks and says yes but then offers to wait on the line while I look at what I want to book...so that I don't have to call back and be on hold again. I would have loved that but I was driving on the highway at that time. So I hang up and the second I get to my destination I try booking AC again and this time it goes through, no problem and I got all the documents in my email within a minute or two. I think the grand total on miles for both legs of the trip was close to 10K.

The redeem event is limited in the amount of miles you can collect 114AM for a cash redemption. Keep that in mind when deciding of this a great offer to take advantage of. Sorry I didn't make not of the Dream miles max.

I will likely redeem for a $50 Disney GC and $30GC for some fast food place we frequent to max out the offer.

Too bad the redemption event isn't on right now as I need to buy a new Kobo ereader and I am getting it from Best Buy and I could have cashed in some miles for evouchers. And no I can't wait for September 4th to buy it. Mine has died - it has been installing an update for 24hours now so I am buying a new one for the weekend for the cottage. It has served me well as I think I have had it for over 10 years.

I stopped at Shell and the in store AM all posted but not the gas yet, hopefully it won't take too much longer. Should get 40 for the gas (38 liters plus 2 for getting the gas). In store some things stacked so it was 49 AM for that. Hopefully the gas miles post sooner or later, I know the card worked as it asked if I wanted to redeem.

for the redemption, I'll max out on the cash miles for sure. I know I'll redeem for Disney GC, $80 of them, even only getting back 114 AM for that is still better than nothing.

Oh well I am happy that I went today as I bought a new Kobo brought it home and holy mackinaw it is tiny - I swear it is smaller than my phone so I just went back to Best Buy and bought another larger sized one. It was the last one of either colour in the store so if I had waited it may have been gone. Now I could have just cashed in some miles for evouchers anyway so it was my decision to not do that.

Well, didn’t we have a fun time yesterday…not. Started out great my oldest transferred me some lounge passes that we enjoyed using. The lounge was small but had nice food and we had a glass of wine while we waited for our flight. Go to the gate right at the scheduled boarding time only to find out there is going to be a delay of at least 30 minutes. Had something to do with an issue onboard related to the incoming flight. We took off about an hour late but made up half the time in the air. They make the 30 minutes to land announcement and start to descend. A couple minutes later pilot comes on saying there is a serious storm at the airport and we have to circle for a while until it passes. That ends up being 40ish minutes. When we do finally land it’s into heavy rain. We get within a few meters of the gate and stop. Due to the storm there is a complete ground stop…meaning it’s unsafe for the ground staff to be outside. We sat there, on the plane waiting for the storm to pass, for 2 HOURS. I will say it was an epic storm. Lightning was one after the other for a good amount of that time. Pretty unusual for that time of day.

Question about the 50 bonus miles offer for Shell that runs from Aug 25-31. The terms say a single transaction, but it is an offer that is over 7 days and is on any combination of fuel, car wash or non-fuel products. My question is - how can this be a $100 spend in a single transaction, if you are allowed a combination of things? I spent $96 on fuel the other day and figured I could just do another small gas transaction before the 31st and qualify for this offer, but then read the terms and now I'm not so sure. Still, how could you do $100 on a single car wash? Maybe someone could explain what they mean by "single transaction"?

I signed up for the Porter status upgrade offer through Airmiles a week or so ago. Didn't think much more about it but it has already paid for itself.

I received a "flight change notification" for November/December flights. Only a few minutes one way or the other no big deal. I decided to check to see if I could add checked bags to my reservation without charge (per the status change). Nope I was going to be charged $47.25.

I decided to call Porter to see if I had my interpretation of the offer correct. Spoke with a representative who had to transfer me to another one. 2nd one was able to update my existing reservation for the upgrade in status. She was able to add 1 checked bag to myself and DH name. She then said to wait a minute there was another perk to the status (seat selection). I mentioned that I had already puchased seats. Dead air for a moment then she said she would be able to refund me the money I had paid for the seats. ($105)

I was to say the least a very happy camper. If you have that offer available to you on Airmiles (410AM to upgrade status to Dec 31 for ONYX members) it has more than paid off for me.

I got it because I will likely have a trip out west before the end of the year and was going to use it so that I could get a Basic airfare and be able to take a carry on with me. The savings for the November flight is all pure bonus.

Morning all

I went a few pages back - but just wanted to check in. Were going to disney early December, and I have enough miles to cash in about $700-800 of disney GC (#girlmath thats free lol) But since its a larger amount - is there any benefit to waiting - like do any sales/deals come around?

Thanks!

Good morning from Nassau, Bahamas

Had a long but fantastic day yesterday. We arrived at the port early hoping to get inside the terminal but they were being strict with PAT. It was fine, DD’s friend came outside to wait with us. Had a nice lunch after boarding, arranged our private table for dinner and got to our room with a little time to spare before muster. Did that and then the sail a wave show was fantastic. We had cocktails on the deck and watch the land disappear as the sun set. Dinner was nice and fortunately we seem to have a good service team.

Today just walking around the port and going to head to DD’s favourite restaurant for lunch. After that we will head back to the ship and lounge on deck somewhere.

I was just coming to tell you about that. They seem to have one of these redemption offers every month or so. Pick up what you need to fulfill this then wait and see if there is another one or two before your trip. You can always get the necessary GC closer to your travel date if the offers don't appear.

Going back in my records there seems to have been one in April and another one in June.
