@LynnTH As an RN I think it is a really awesome field to get into because you can go so many different directions with it and, depending on where you live, the pay can be really lucrative. I have only been a nurse for 5 years and I make $41 an hour--new grads are starting at $36. I don't have my BSN because our local nursing program offered the ADN and the pay is only 1$ more an hour at my hospital so I didn't feel it was worth the time/cost to go on further.
That being said I have looked at listings for other states (I am in Wa) and the pay can be really low, in the 20's
. I think I may have a very different outlook on nursing if I was, say, on a medical floor with 8 patients and only being paid $25 an hour. I work L&D and have less then zero interest in working in any field that doesn't involve pregnant ladies or babies
. I would LOVE to learn NICU but we don't have one and I don't want to add 45 minutes to my drive to get to a hospital with one.
Anyway I personally would recommend it but that's just me.
