Have never tried for a retention offer before, usually if I'm cancelling a card there's a reason and no amount of sweet talk is getting me to keep it. However, I've been thinking about churning my SW card. I haven't put much spend on it in the last year because I got new cards. Most of the spend was in 2017, so in the last 12 months total spend was about $1,200 but I had a return so net was about $900. Last real activity was in March 2018, but since I was working off the return credit it doesn't even feel like activity to me.
This is the SW Premier card, I've had it for at least 5 years, and it gets activity each year. What's the guestimate on if I get a retention offer, and any speculation on what it could be? If it could pay the fee I'd hang on to it as it's not doing me any harm then. I don't think it would hurt to close it either, for AAoA it's in the middle of the pack and I got my IHG card around the same time so I have steady accounts. Part of me is actually thinking of cancelling it since hubby has the SW Plus (for now), I have several other no FTF's cards now, and I've definitely got my anniversary points. Am I right in thinking there's no benefit to keeping it if we hang on to hubby's Plus until I pick it up again?
My only fear is they drop the Premier and replace it with the Priority. I'm not sure why they have 4 cards, there wasn't much difference between the Plus and Premier other than # of anniversary points and the no FTF's for the extra $30 in AF. But I'd rather have the Premier than the Priority as I don't think the Plus is a good value for the AF and the Priority doesn't really work with our flying habits. So I'm all over the place.
