I love credit cards so much!

$581/80k = $.007 per point. Marriott usually can get u $.09 per point so logically cash might be worth doing. Is there a cash+point deal? usually those arent too bad. Id still put it on the SPG Biz as you earn 6x marriott. I still think earning Marriott points is not that bad. valuewise, 3x$581 = 1743 UR pts x $.021 = $36.60 vs 6x $581 = 3486 marriott points x $31.37. i guess CSR wins in value... but i see marriott harder to earn i guess. choice is up to u though.
Thanks! No, cash + point deal and the cash price includes breakfast for the 3 of us since DS11 is free so it seems like the better value. I did check the new charts and it is going down to 35k points but I think that kicks in after we will have been there.

I'm probably not alone in having this complaint...but I miss out on the SPG free night by 25 days! My cardmember anniv. is 7/7/18 and my annual fee posted 7/24/18 with my statement close. I applied for the card in July last year because I was getting my roof done in early August. Now I wish I'd have procrastinated on getting the roof done, haha. I called in just to discuss the frustration and they didn't even offer a retention offer at all on the card. They were willing to just let me cancel, so I'll probably do that on a subsequent call after I've had a chance to think about it.

Yeah, I feel your pain, I was torqued about it back in March. It sounds worse being so close to getting a free anniversary night, but it's really aggravating in any case. Hope you get a more helpful person the next time you call in.

We’ve been to GWL many times and have a kids club suite this time for DS11. Besides dinner at Captain George’s, yum!, and maybe some outlet shopping with never leave the resort. We’ve only been to VA Beach once before and I can’t remember where we stayed but DH thinks it was a Comfort Suites.

It’s funny you mention the “boardwalk” since being from MD, that boardwalk is very different than what we consider a boardwalk.

Ha, yeah it’s definitely not a true boardwalk. More of a sidewalk next to the ocean. DH and I usually don’t eat around there since he’s from VA Beach and we drive a little further inland to meet his parents for dinner, but there’s plenty of restaurants. If you’re looking for something not seafood and to not break the bank, there’s a Ynot Pizza by the hotel that’s good. We also like to eat breakfast at the Pocahontas Pancake restaurant. Super quick service so don’t let a long line fool you. As far as seafood goes, I ate down at Rudee’s Inlet waaaay down at the other end of the strip many years ago. You’d have to drive down there though.

Whoo hoo! Since parents were in town I dragged them and DD off to Best Buy and Bed, Bath and Beyond to use the 4 offers at each place ($30 off $300 and $5 off $25)...loaded into disney gift cards.com and applied $1000 of the $1300 to our graduation trip (next June). Tomorrow I'll head to publix and buy $200 with DH's 10% back at groceries amex offer and then next week start buying gift cards at Walgreens. Love Amex offer coupons and 5x on chase freedom :)

I used to go there quite often and I would stay in the Sheraton. I agree about the Boardwalk - concrete versus wooden planking. Do they still have the plastic palm trees? I did like the trolley rides - the hotel used to give us tokens for free rides. OMG - I'm realizing that its probably 15 years since I've been there! Time flies when you are busy!

@Alexle2007 - I would probably throw the points at those nights unless I knew I needed them fairly soon for a higher value redemption and I would keep my cash in my pocket.

LOL! I graduated high school from the area 30 years ago and residency almost 20 years ago and haven't been back since 2001 so I feel you. Time does fly...

Also just realized I probably had no idea "boardwalks" were planks v. concrete since I did spend so much time in VA Beach in my younger years. Sad.

Thanks! It was only $10 more to include breakfast for the 3 of us so we’ll be having breakfast at the hotel. I am guessing the pizza place has pasta? I think I have the only child who doesn’t like pizza. We might hit Captain George’s there also. And I know DH has plans to go to Dave and Buster’s on Wed, his obsession.

Thanks! I actually just added a night in Bethany Beach Labor Weekend using some of my points so we’ll go Williamsburg, VA Beach, OCMD and then Bethany Beach and finally home. The room was going for $713 before taxes or 45k points.

Not since the site first launched. Originally you couldn't combine cards you got with from Disney locations to cards you got from third party retailers that sold them. It has been fixed since.

I did on Sun when I got home. I first added the another card and then transferred to the other card. It now shows the correct amounts (at least on the site.)

Thanks! I've never used the site before, and it makes me a little nervous given how glitchy Disney IT can be. But I also can't see calling to pay with a dozen $50 gift cards . . .

I forget that Embassy Suites is part of Hilton. We just stayed in one on our CA trip! I love ES! Hmm, maybe I will look more at the Hilton cards...
I joke to my DH that I want to move to an ES.
When our house had a burst pipe we lived at ES while they redid our floors. We had 2 connecting suites. It was lovely going down for a hot breakfast then driving the kids to school. So relaxing. I was able to pick up the mess in our rooms in 15 mins vs my house that I just cannot keep clean. Then we'd go downstairs for dinner at the restaurant and a swim. I felt like those twins on the old Disney show "suite life" or something like that. hahahaha

Make sure you use the retailmenot savings at walgreen!!

As stated if you have the premier it is $2 for every $1 spend. The real benefit though for me was to put some of the money on it (I split which cards I used) and pay off the Disney over the next 6 months. I bought an October UY direct for 100 points so it was about $10000 was on the Reserve and the rest on the Disney Visa.

Now I am curious! That is the first I have heard of the offer. What are they offering? I bought the OKW points direct and have a BLT contract that the sellers are sitting on and haven't returned their closing documents. I know I am being negative but I am afraid they are going to back out and breach the contract. So I might as well have possible options...

I have been happy with the direct purchase...for what it is worth as I am a total newbie to it. I do agree that prices will go up. :)
So much to think about! I was thinking if I can put a decent amount on a Disney visa and have that much time to pay it off, I can earn the rewards plus the sign on bonus and put that towards annual dues. AND if I sign up for the Discover It card I was looking at, I could put some on that card too and have 0% apr for 14 months. Depending on how much that is, that could be a decent savings.

I noticed the offer was already posted, so I won’t repost it. I’m a newbie too, so for me it’s just easier to go direct for comfort purposes.

I wouldn't use the Disney Visa for the Disney dollars back as you can do so much better with a CSP or CSR card. If you really needed to float the purchase with no interest for a bit then I'd open up an Amex Blue Business card which would get you 2X MR points for the purchase and 0% interest for 15 months.

DVC member here with 1300 points that has purchased 10 contracts at 4 resorts both direct and resale. Our first contract was a direct purchase in 2006 and back then the promo was $86 per point for SSR. Currently I'd only purchase direct for a very small contract like 25-50 points as it isn't worth the hassle of resale, waiting on Disney to ROFR and for a contract which may be stripped. Or, a brand new resort that was the end all be all of everything we wanted.

I do have a CSP; so far I’ve only used the URs to transfer to SW for RR points. I was just thinking it would be nice to earn rewards I could put right to annual dues, have the 6 months 0% (which will mess with me mentally because I never leave balances on cards lol), plus have the park perks for having the Disney card. The only issue would be if I would even use the card enough after the initial purchase to earn enough rewards for that. I guess I could just cancel it after the year or downgrade it to the no fee card if I wasn’t using it, right?

I’m not comfortable applying for a business card, and I don’t do anything that could even qualify as a “business”. :worried: Otherwise the 15 months would allow me to put more on it with more time to pay it off!

1300 points is very nice!! I only have 100 points, which is why I’m considering an add on. I’m definitely going to end up adding on eventually because 100 won’t get me very far. A part of me says if I’m going to add on anyway, why not do it now instead of waiting until later when it’s more expensive. Another part of me says it’ll probably be more expensive anyway because I’ll have to end up financing some of it, so maybe I should just wait until I have more $ saved up...

Do you know how many times you can do this? I feel like I read the offer resets after several days but I can't remember where/if I read that and I'm about to head to Walgreens :)
It resets after it posts. For me it was about 3 days. I registered 3 different CP cards with 3 different logins. Not sure if that was necessary

Glad you mentioned that. Totally forgot about Lyft. I can use that for Minnie Vans this weekend at WDW right?
We couldn’t use a Lyft promo for MinneVans when we were there in March, but it wasn’t fully rolled out. But you do use the Lyft app. It’s just seems very expensive although cute.

It was super easy once I realized I first had to add the card and then transfer to the other card. I thought I could just transfer the amount. It was just my bad. The federal agency’s systems that I work for are much worse. Many of the systems aren’t even web-based.

Use the following chart to explore potential savings:

When You Purchase...
You'll Receive a Purchase Credit of...
125 to 149 Vacation Points $750
150 to 174 Vacation Points $1,500
175 to 199 Vacation Points $2,000
200 to 249 Vacation Points $2,500

Well I was thinking it was some fantastic offer. I guess that is ok but I was (probably unrealistically) thinking it was a reduction in cost per point. Thanks.

I will pm you tomorrow on my whole DVC saga and some of my thoughts. I will say though that the yes you could just downgrade or cancel the Disney Visa if you weren’t using it.

This is why I bounce things off this group :)

After writing it out like that, it felt like a lot.
Think this is too crazy?
  • Disney Visa, SPG personal 8/16
  • CSR 8/17
  • CIP 5/18
  • Marriott personal 8/18
  • CIC 10/18 or 11/18
  • Double Dip SW for CP biz plus personal 12/18 or 1/19
Credit karma 800, credit limit including biz cards is about 15% of total income

If it were me I’d leave out the CIP or the Marriott...2 months between cards seems too close...
Yup, definitely feels too close like that!
I would say it depends on how badly you want the CP. For me that's #1 so I'm laying low. I wouldn't add another Chase Biz until you get the SW biz. I fear them denying me another Biz card even though I have a legit business. Good credit limit to income ratio though!!
CP has been big for us, so I definitely want it again. I worry about being denied for another biz card too, it's why I skipped the Marriott biz for both of us always. Prioritizing other biz cards like CIP, etc.
A few thoughts:
  1. I agree with @Psychodisney...getting a CIC before the SW Biz...sounds risky. Each subsequent biz card will be harder to get with Chase. 2 is harder than 1, 3 is harder than 2. Your ability to get a CP will be greatly impacted if you miss out on the SW Biz.
  2. If you decide to go for it anyways, the pacing seems too fast. Maybe you could do Marriott 8/18; SW Biz 11/18; SW Personal 1/19; CIC 4/19...
  3. You're probably not a risk for Chase Shutdown yet. Regardless of what you do, I wouldn't do a true double dip with the SW cards (no need to since you aren't trying to get 2 personal cards). You can get one and then get the other a couple months later.
See, moving CIC to the end didnt cross my mind! I think I like this, if I really decide I cant live without a CIC I could change his CIP after referring me to my own in Oct. And true SW isnt a true double dip. I think I just keep thinking that way because of how they work together.
your */12 is pushing shutdown rules. id probably skip the Marriott Personal imo. CIC still transfers to Marriott.

CP seems to be very valuable since u have an SO. Id say skip Marriott and go with your SW CP plans. that is a good idea for u.
CP has been huge. Just added it up quick.. we've earned just over 133k RRs from cc spending/sign up, anniversary points, and 1 flight OOP... have 7800 left right now, and have gotten about $4300 in value. And I dont care what reddit says about overvaluing CP, we would have either paid this OOP or not gone :P OOP for trips we would have actually done would have ran us $1700.

I think the only reason for Marriott over CIC is to make sure I can still get CP.

Boooooo. Hope you get a better rep. I opened my card 6/26/16 and last year the AF posted 7/20.. I moved my closing date back so the current statement will close Aug 3rd. Someone was advised to do that by a phone rep to trigger the freenight, so I figured what did I have to lose...
