I love credit cards so much!

I’ve seen that language used for denial based on 5/24, but I feel like we’re missing something else here (like the CSR opened in 11/16) because I wouldn’t think a non-reported SPG Biz in 4/18 and a Marriott Biz in 2/18 (apparently the only card that Chase sees this year) is too many cards open in a short amount of time.

He did specifically mention both SW cards open in June 2017. So he was looking at that too. I figured once I got into July it would be a year past and I would be safe.

Yep, I transfer DH and my U$180Rs to my CSR account on a monthly basis when they post. My CIP hasn't really seen any love though since I met my MSR except for referral bonus I received from a friend who has a real business and was interested in new cards. I'll mention it tonight to DH.
I would do it, as @disneymagicgirl mentioned: First those points are worth $150 as cash, so you could redeem 12,200 of them to negate the Plastiq fee and still have 2800 to transfer to the CSR, worth at least $42

What I like to do personally, is use other money to cover the fee and bank all of the URs for travel... if you can do that you're paying $122 for the 15000 URs, worth at least $225. I have a general travel savings line in our budget which is where I put all swagbucks/cashback portal earnings, bank bonuses, found money, plus $100 budgeted a month. I pay Plastiq fees and card AFs out of that. It's sort of like buying points... but I will pay $122 and get $225 (or even $150 cash) all day long :)

When Starwood & Marriott start their new program on 8/1, you will be able to transfer 60K Starriott points (=20k SPG points currently) to 25K Alaska miles. The new transfer ratio is unchanged from current levels since any SPG point will become 3 Marriott points in August.

If you have enough Marriott points (including your 1 SPG:3 Marriott conversion + 1 UR: 1 Marriott) to redeem a 270K 7 nt travel package before 8/1, you will receive 120K Alaska miles + certificate good for a current Cat 1-5 Marriott hotel.*

With SPG airline transfers right now, to get 120K Alaska miles would take 5(20K)SPG = 100K SPG points (actually giving you 125K Alaska miles).
If instead, you use 270K Marriott points (= 90K SPG) good for 120K Alaska miles + aforementioned hotel certificate, you'd still have 10K SPG left over which you can still transfer to Alaska and get 10K Alaska miles, for a total of 130K Alaska miles. Nutshell: more miles. And currently SPG points are on sale until 7/20. But redemption has to happen THIS month and I would not wait til the last minute. The new travel packages starting 8/1 are insulting compared to what they are right now.

Alaska has a credit card issued by BoA, I think the signup bonus right now is 30K miles.

If you've determined that Alaska miles are your best bet, the current Marriott travel packages are the best way to get those miles right now.

*lots of unknown about what will happen to that certificate after 8/1. Some people who are doing this are considering the certificates mostly disposable since the miles transfer is the big winner with the travel package. If you view it that way, then whatever value the certificate has will be a happy surprise on 8/1.
Thanks! I do have enough points for the package but I think I am going to hold off on getting it since I am not sure I want to be locked into Alaska since we would never use them otherwise. But it's good to have a plan for how to go about purchasing when the time comes.

I’m not disputing that something seems odd about the denial. I just wanted to make sure it was clear that 5/24 denials will specifically (and in all DPs I’m aware of) use the language “24 months” :) It’s probably also worth noting here but I believe we’re basing our conclusions off of what the recon rep said versus the actual written denial which will give the “true reason”

I hear ya. I'm still trying to decide what airline I should pick for my redemption. So many factors to consider!

honestly, a denial for too many cards in a short period is the first ive heard of it. Its usually acceptance then shut down.
time to search for this on reddit/flyertalk.

Hi everyone. My AF's hit last week for my 2 Chase SW cards. I want to close the Premier but keep the Plus to use as a referral for DH in October. Do I pay the entire balance of the card I want to close, which is only the AF anyway, then call to cancel it? Does the AF get refunded and can I do this by sm or do I have to call? Thanks for your help.

Guys this is going to sound like a real dumb question for the stage of churning I'm at... but if I've already pulled an Experian report this year for DH, I need to pull from another bureau so I don't get charged, correct?

I've gotten that denial before - it was the reason my wife was denied for the Chase Ink Plus (I believe the CIP predecessor) back in 2015 or 2016 (can't remember the exact time). I also got them myself - Too many recently opened accounts was a reason often confused for 5/24 back before we were able to pinpoint exactly what 5/24 was and how it worked too. We also need to keep in mind that none of this is the "official" wording - we are all dissecting a recon reps "paraphrased language" :)

If you go in under the dispute option, you'll actually be to see his report for free. I figured this out when I was removing AUs last year.

It's a super frustrating recon call too...The rep typically reads from some script saying "We want to see how you use your newer accounts before approving you for any further credit" and no matter what you say they keep repeating this line until you get angry and hang up haha.

For your free annual CR, yes. If you have an adverse decision letter that was based on Experian information you should still be able to get a free report from that too. But otherwise you'll probably pay for another.

He did say something like that... I have Chase accounts for a very long time. I have my Disney Chase Card which I got when it first came out. So not new to Chase. But very frustrating... I just applied for the AMEX BRG in the meantime and got approved for that, so at least I can use that for carpeting and will reapply for CIP in a month or so. After closing/lowering limits on cards etc.

Oh and I have only ever had Organic Spend on my cards....

That's actually what I want to do- check to make sure his AU has been removed. It was previously closed, but I want to double check that it's gone before double dipping him. I'll have to try to look that up tonight.

Can someone please give me the lowdown on Alaska’s CC? We don’t fly a ton, usually a few times a year. Is it worth getting? Looks like there’s a fee. How does the companion fare work? Is it one free ticket per year?

DH's SPG points were in my account today so I just transferred all of our points to my Marriott account. I'm getting ready to call and book a cat 6 plus 100k RR points package. Why am I nervous about this???

I am too. Mostly because I can’t decide btwn cat 6 and cat 8. And that I don’t want to regret the decision.

No go on DHs Platinum  Just said they'd do the standard 60k offer. Bummer but I wasn't getting my hopes up too much. Now to decide what to do instead. Apparently he drops off his car Monday. He thinks. Do I remember? No, I was not there...
