I found out today about Amazon direct publishing from a friend who just did it. DH has written a couple books but never done anything they are just sitting on the computer. I was just telling him about how crazy easy Amazon makes it. DH said he would need to pull his last one out and go over some details.
Me: we would probably need to go on a road trip to make sure it is accurate.
Him: yeah probably.
Me: I have the points it can happen with no cost...
Him: always comes back to you going somewhere and the credit cards!
Me: well yeah duh! As I show him my phone. I had just got the notification on a new post on our thread. (@CyndiLouWho it was your post so kind of funny since it is your Disney picture).

I hope you get approved. Rejection stinks I called a million times and couldn’t get approved for the CIC. I’ll be trying again soon lol

How long are you waiting to try again for the CIC? I think you were denied right before me (my dh really), right? I applied for him on May 9th. Trying to decide when to try again.

Yeah I was denied around then. I think I’m going to wait until July I’m lowering my credit limits and removed myself as an AU.

I had lowered my dh's limits a couple of days before applying. He is only 2/24 now so that is not the problem. I'm tempted to try again before we leave for our trip and hope for a nice surprise when we get home...Of course, that may mean I'm incessantly checking the status line in the car...:rolleyes1

Gift card exclusions during a promo means the store’s own gift cards? WF gave me a 20% cashback offer. It says gift cards are excluded in the terms. I don’t want to call them to alert them and because I know I’m going to have to speak to multiple people for someone to know anything.

Trying to buy a $500 Visa or MC gift card to convert to Disney and airline gift cards and get $100 cashback to convert into Hotels.com

Sounds like business expenses to me :) It's awesome that you have the points and ability to do it so he can get his book published. I had a friend do at least one on amazon but I couldn't get through the draft she sent me. I'm not sure how it's done but just being able to do it is great.

It might be good to show whether it's round trip or one way and that it's points per night otherwise it's a bit misleading. Looks good otherwise except for the TPG link but I know there's good info it's just all the click bait that drives me nuts. I don't need to see the same story tweeted out multiple times a day.

DH just got an email from someone at work... asking for Disney advice, decided to squeeze in 2 days at WDW on another trip. What rides/parks should they do, what restaurants, etc?

Oh, when are you going?

JUNE 13TH AND 14TH.

I feel anxious trying to give advice. This is upsetting my uber-trip-planner-ness.

I tried to open DHs today... thinking I'd fund with the same money, which was back in my Ally account... then it shut me down because his name isn't on that account. D'oh. I really need to get him on there as a joint owner for bank bonuses! :rotfl:

OMG! Reading that gave me an anxiety attack. I just got back from our annual work conference in Atlanta and had my own ADR Disney planning panic attack last night. DH texted me at 2:30 in the morning in his own panic as he just realized he never set the calendar reminder to book our dining reservations for this Thanksgiving. We are traveling with both sides of the family and it is a party of 16 :scared1: Of course everything we planned on doing was not available and we are toying with the idea of doing things off property or postponing to 2019. Luck was on our side and we were able to book dining reservations, just not what we had initially planned. Crisis averted!

I got the Lowes offer added too! Yay! I actually need to buy a new mower so perfect timing. I finally used the ebags offer to buy my DH a new carry on roller bag.

Thank you for posting this! I went and checked and got it on a few cards and so did DH. It wasn't there a few days ago. We also got the Exxon one too!

Yay over an hour hold but f&w seminars are booked. Put it on a different visa to work on my spend for $200 bonus. Since Disney dining doesn’t code as 3x on csr figured work on spend.

Congrats! DH made up for not being on top of the ADRs he said he'd be in charge of for the Thanksgiving trip by sitting on hold forever to get some for F&W seminars. I got 3 of the Saturday morning win and cheese seminars. SO excited! I love those!!

marriott points is best used with the Flights and Nights package. one example is spending 270k marriott points can get u 120k alaska points + a 7 night stay at a cat 1-5. There are lower miles deal package.
so yes, if its cheaper on CSR portal, use that until u find otherwise.
a $200 hotel should cost you 12,000 pts ($120) right? 1200 pts($12) seems a bit too less.

Ah that reminds me. It might be time for the new family members to pay rent in SPG points. I'm torn between just picking up another 2 of the cat 1 - 5 packages or upgrading the current ones. Decisions, decisions.

TPG: American Express Launches New Welcome Bonus Qualification Tool

Starting today, American Express has launched a new welcome bonus tool, letting potential cardholders know before a hard credit inquiry is initiated whether or not the cardholder is eligible for the welcome bonus.

Here’s how it works. When you apply for an American Express credit card, if you’ve already had the card you’re applying for, you’ll receive the following message before your credit is pulled:

Because you have or have had The Platinum Card, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer.

We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?
...

If you haven’t had the particular card you’re applying for but you’re restricted by the new welcome bonus language due to your history with other Amex cards, you’ll receive the following message:

Based on your history with American Express welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of cards you have opened and closed, you are not eligible to receive this welcome offer.

We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

Is there any indication that Amex has a problem with getting multiple cards from the same partner? I've been counting on getting the Hilton Aspire, but I have two other Hilton cards and this new language is making me nervous...

If you prefer to not give clicks to TPG - here it is on DoC (although he cites TPG throughout his article): https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amer...k-during-the-credit-card-application-process/

I haven't read too much about Amex imposing any one card per family rule (like Chase). There's been mixed DPs that Amex may be denying bonuses on Platinums for holding or having had some other Platinum variant. Arguably, though, a Ameriprise Plat, Charles Schwab Plat, MB Plat, and vanilla Plat are all much more similar than each of the Hilton card products.

What kind of worries me is this tool seems buggy. TPG writes, "despite selecting 'Cancel Application' and receiving a confirmation page that I’d cancelled my application, I later received an email saying that Amex was 'reviewing [my] application now.'"

The tool could be useful to help you determine upfront whether you'd be wasting a hard pull on a card which you're not eligible for the bonus -- if it works. I guess it's small comfort to know that Amex has some kind of actual criteria to determine your eligibility that they can give you this information before you apply instead of arbitrarily denying you a bonus after you've already met MSR. But the restriction still comes off as vague and overly broad, and that sucks.

I hate giving TPG too much credit, but he seems to have done some legwork to confirm Amex's new bonus restriction language appears on the following cards:
  • The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express
  • The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN
  • Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express
  • Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express
  • Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express
  • Blue Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
  • Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
  • Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express
  • The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card
  • Hilton Honors Ascend Card from American Express
  • The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express
  • Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express
  • Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
*** I gave TPG too much credit. Sleuthing by Gonzohawk on /r/churning has determined that, "The only cards with a bonus that didn't have the language that [he] could find are the two Morgan Stanley cards. [Gonzohawk] checked every other card with a bonus, not listed above, and they all have the language." So it's pretty apparent that TPG intentionally failed to list cards that have the new restriction because TPG doesn't make money off those cards. Take this as another example of TPG putting $$$ before fully informing his readers. ***

ETA: Personally, I look at this list and think,
  • Thank god I'm not a Delta hostage;
  • Already got the SPG biz and consumer cards, and will probably get the Luxury card sooner than later;
  • Same with the Hilton cards -- just got the biz and will probably nab the Ascend before I've burned through too much Amex goodwill;
  • Already had the Platinum and PRG;
  • Can't seem to get targeted for any good offers on the Biz Plat or BGR, and the MSRs are too much otherwise;
  • Not interested in the EveryDay card, and prefer the BBP to eventually hold my MRs.
  • Not interested in the Blue Cash cards.

For those that have concerns over Chase Shutdown: There is not a thread of people posting that they applied for a Chase card while 7/24 or greater and they were NOT shutdown. https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8qi6f1/avoided_chase_shutdown_megathread/

Maybe this makes some people feel a little better. I'm attempting to continue to isolate how many people in this thread have a mortgage. Our theory has been that you are somewhat safer if you have a mortgage and it seems a number of the folks sharing info in that thread indeed have one.

I would definitely consider this to be a dynamic list. A telling fact here is Everyday is listed and Everyday Preferred is not...that seems like something that might get corrected. (Also TPG uses the wording "at least" when listing these cards). Thanks for sharing @Lain :)

Yeah, I forgot to note that the list may grow. Lots of glaring omissions like no Platinum variants? the biz versions of the Plat and Gold, but no Biz Green? Hilton Biz and Ascend, but no HH (no AF) or Aspire?

ROFL! evarga's comments! So true.

I guess I gave TPG too much credit after all.

I actually did have to remove all of TPG's affiliate links from that list, then reordered the cards so they were roughly grouped together by product line, before posting. Now that I think about it, I wonder if TPG ordered them top to bottom by value of a click through, and really only listed the cards he had affiliate links for.
