When you us the chase portal to shop do you get the percent there plus the 5% for using paypal. I was going to make a purchase at sephora and chase portal has 5% cash back and this quarter paypal is one of the 5% categories. So will I get 10% back or is it showing the max total i would get?

You'd get both!

Help with math please:

Hertz weekly minivan rental 4400 hertz points

or

Book Alamo through UR/CSR portal for 26,037UR.

If i did the alamo thing I'd prob transfer my saved 4400 hertz points to SW RR to use for another trip. They'd convert to 8800 SW RR.

eta: Seems like I should go with hertz/points., right? Because if I were transferring URs to SWRR I'd only need 8800 URs to get the 8800 SWRR, vs the 26,037 I'd use renting alamo.

For anyone with the Capital One Venture card, DOC and TPG are reporting that Capital One is adding TSA precheck or GE as a benefit to the card. Nice addition to a $95 annual fee card.

I'd look at it like you did with your edit. Use the Hertz points.

I'm jealous that you got to live there! I've visited every few years since I was a kid. I'm in CT, and my aunt had a summer home on Green Hill Beach in South Kingston, so we used to stay there and make trips into Newport. I've also been to the Folk Festival a few times. I've always loved the architecture of the colonial homes on the island, and of course the mansions. If I've ever been to Breton Point I don't remember it. I'll add it to the list for next year! We were really happy with the place we stayed, although it was a little unorthodox being a time share property that also rented rooms as if it were a hotel. It's called The Wellington Resort. We were right on Thames, but set back from the road so that the buildings were along the water's edge. We walked everywhere.

ETA: I just looked up Gurney's Resort. WOW!!!!

We were given that assignment after being in Texas. It really was a great place to live, especially as I had a lot of relatives in Newton, Ma and also in New Haven, Ct. Brenton Point is the state park along Ocean Drive and the Newport Jazz Festival used to be held out there somewhere - I hesitate to say exactly where as my memory is dim on that. We went a few times.

Love walking the streets in Newport! One of my favorite things to do was to take the kids to the library for their kids programs and then push the stroller until I couldn't walk anymore and stop for ice cream. Parking was never easy so you had to be prepared for a walk. And, it was always colorful when the yacht racers were in town - the bars spilled onto the streets no matter what time it was. And the sailboats - there was always a beautiful view of the Bay.

I've been to most of the Mansions - Rose Cliff and the Breakers are my favorites. It's unimaginable how these people lived.

I'm irritated with SWA portal..... they show click thrus, but no points posting for the hefty purchases made. I did a magazines.com deal WEEKS ago,and contacted them at least twice..still nothing. Bleh I've been enjoying my subscriptions however but that just proves how LONG it's been since I ordered them....

2 or 3 years I think. Need to dump it too, but this makes it interesting if it's true.
I’ve had mine 10+ years so I keep it. I like the purchase eraser for car rentals so it makes sense to me earning 2% on everything. I use it a lot for non category spend when I don’t have a MSR to meet.

That sounds absolutely wonderful! Those are my two favorite mansions, too. We did The Breakers this time, and tried to get into Rosecliff but they closed early for a wedding (must be nice!!!). One of my friends had never been to any of them before, so she was over the moon.

The jazz fest is at Fort Adams, which I see on the map juts out into Brenton Cove. And Brenton Point is to the southwest of that. I'll definitely suggest the scenic Ocean Drive area to my friends next time.

The nightlife was hopping this weekend, too. We ate dinners at about 7pm and the restaurants were quiet when we walked in, but by the time we were done eating we were yelling to each other across the table because it was so loud. It made me appreciate that our hotel was set back from the road and blocked by buildings so we couldn't hear the noise coming from Thames Street.

We had one celebrity sighting...Jay Leno came into The Red Parrot while we were having dinner. I can't stand him though, so I wasn't impressed.
ETA: He was probably staying at the Gurney Resort. ::yes::

I remember having that issue when I ordered magazines to put me over the top for the companion pass. I had to contact them a couple of times, and they took forever to post. I had to start putting more spend on the cards just in case.

I just called my daughter and asked if she wanted to go get an 'awful awful' this summer. She said she was too busy to be talking milkshakes right now, but we'll get back to it later!

Or he (Jay Leno) just drove in from Providence for the evening!

Were you there long enough to start calling milkshakes "cabinets"? I went to school at URI for a year, and some of the RI regionalisms cracked me up!

I called Chase today to voice my displeasure (sure it won't do any good) that the time frame for my $5000 spend on the new Marriott card started 2 weeks ago when I was approved, but I don't yet have the card to start spending!

does anyone have any knowledge about the airport ATL in Atlanta Georgia? when we booked Disney i didn't realize a layover in ATL. my concern is we have only 50 minutes. is southwest terminals close by?

I've had Several 45 minute plane changes in ATL on SW - they are all in concourse C, so you won't have far to go!

So, My Spring Break plans are changing every day. So many choices.... (I think I am changing locations more than I change Disney Resorts). So, latest was going to Cancun. Using SW for airfare and using Marriott Points for 3 nights and then transferring my UR's to Hyatt and do an All Inclusive for 4 nights (2 rooms - there are 4 of us and 2 rooms was the same as 4 in one room).

Then my brother mentions about going on another cruise with them. So now thinking of doing that. Would use SW for airfare. But tell me if I have this right with UR Points.

After my CIP Spend is done (have $1000 left). I will have about 215,000 UR's. Right now I have the CSP ( I downgraded the CSR to a Freedom a while back). Won't be able to open a new CSP/CSR until beginning of next year for both me and DH.

So, if I calculate correctly. 200,000 UR's would get me $2500 towards a cruise with my CSP. If I were to upgrade to CSR then my 200,000 UR's would be worth $3000 towards a cruise. Is that correct?

If I wanted to upgrade would I do it with my CSP? And would it affect anything by cancelling it later and reapplying once our 24 months is up on both CSP/CSR?

For my RI peeps and fellow New England peeps, there is a Cambridge Savings Bank checking bonus of $175 with NO REQUIREMENTS. Plus, you can fund up to $1000 with a Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Just thought I'd pass this along. I found the info on DOC.

I'm a New Englander and there are some Cambridge Savings banks in nearby towns. I've never done this before, so would just like to confirm there are no negative consequences to doing this right? I'll open the account, transfer $1000 in, leave it in there for at least 90 days and I'll get the $175 bonus. Then how hard is it to close a bank account? Can you usually do it online or typically have to go into a branch? Thanks for any advice/tips from those who are regulars at bank bonuses!

No, but I've definitely heard the term. I will say it was my introduction to Italian Ice and now I have to have this in the summer. We came there from South Texas and it was a whole new world but an oddly familiar one at the same time. I'd been in Texas long enough to develop a bit of a drawl and said stuff like y'all, and soon that got mixed in with the more northeast regional speech! I guess I've lived in so many places, I just fall in line.

Check the small print for applicable fees and how long you have to keep the account open before closing it.
