I love credit cards so much!

So not to further complicate this further...but with the SPG being a limited time offer...if you want that 35k offer it super jumps up to the top of the list, HAHA

We probably need to consider that not only is the 35k offer for a limited time, the SPG cards are probably going to be gone within the next year or so. So even though Amex seems to periodically raise the offer on the SPG cards, how many more times can we hope for a higher offer before these cards are ended or converted?

(I know it seems like every time the SPG cards hit 35k, we think it may be the last time.)

@DisneyMandC, I agree with this. Chase views you and your husband as completely separate profiles, so what cards you get and when you got them have no bearing on your husband’s chances of approval or shutdown, and vice versa. The only consideration where you’d look at both you and your husband together is your household’s ability to meet the MSR on yours or your husband’s card(s).

Thank you! I guess I kind of knew this, but just didn't know if maybe they were going to be like "it looks like your household has 8 Chase cards" or something like that!

And I've already received an SM back from Chase saying they've removed DH as an AU from my CF. I really wish I'd been reading here back when I applied for those cards. Instead I was just like "cool, look, free points!"

Yea, LOL!

I'd honestly consider referring your husband to CF at some point. It's a sweet UR offer (basically 27,500 URs for $500 spend)...15k bonus; 2,500 AU (middle name or dog trick); 10k referral....paired with a CSR it's $412.50 for spending $500...if you do it during a 5% category and put all $500 in there that's another 2,500 so that makes it $450 back for $500 spend...that's insanity my friends (and exactly what I plan to do with my wife :))

The last time the spg biz was 35k, was the spend higher? I feel like it was 10k spend maybe??

And speaking of the spg cards going away, my other thought is to get the personal for myself. With dh's referral, that would be 32.5k points for only 3k spend. Then there is no stress at all over meeting the spend. It increases me to 6/24 but I have a couple cards falling off later this year and my plan was to focus on my dh's card more this year anyway since he'll be 2/24 by June. So, would it make sense to get the personal for me, since the personal may go away first?

I have 3k done on my SPG so far. It has been mostly MS. I did throw in some gas and groceries though. I found another store that gave me MOs. The clerk asked if my name was on the card. I said yes, I feel awful for lying. I have also used tape to cover the GiftCard part of the card. :rolleyes1I have just become desperate for these points. I’m going to try and do another 1k tomorrow at Walmart.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, if I didn't have a CF but was in 2 player mode I'd even consider burning a 5/24 slot on it...P1 applies, earn 20,000 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 2,500 5% category) then refer P2, earn 30,000 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 2,500 5% category + 10,000 refer). 50k combined URs for spending $1,000...pair it with a CSR and you earned $750 back on $1,000 in spend... I think in single player mode this doesn't make as much sense. But in 2 player mode, it's very interesting.

I'm definitely going to! It's not on my list for this year, but eventually I'll get him to get one as well. We were able to max last quarter. We'll see about this one. I'll definitely be looking for more Paypal options when I'm shopping online, and will be throwing a couple gift cards in for places I already shop when I 'm at the grocery store.

Last time SP went to 35k was: 25k - spend $6k in 3 months; add'l 10k - spend $4k in 6 months = total 35k for $10k (but you had 6 months to do it).

Based on my valuation that SPG offer (the way you're doing it) is worth over $1,000 for $3,000 with no AF due in yr 1. I'd say it warrants consideration. Might want to wait and see if a 35k offer comes out though as that would be even better :)

Thanks. I did briefly look at those other airports and they did seem far away. I am already driving extra to get to the airport because PIT did not have a nonstop on Southwest but BWI did and they were close to the same price. So I would rather drive a little extra then connect. I hate flying! One takeoff and landing a trip is already too much! We will find out next week if she gets into Tufts, if she didn't then I will probably cancel the trip. BU is out of our price range with the aid they offered. I will look at the T. I think that is how we got around when we visited a few years ago.

Boston traffic can be a pain. So taking the T and Uber is much better than driving your self. I went to school at BU (had a partial scholarship otherwise I could never afford it) and worked at MIT, so reach out by PM if you have any questions. I will be happy to help.

Sorry to keep replying to myself but I'm thinking this through out loud now haha... CFU has a similar value proposition but without the 5% category it isn't as lucrative:

P1 applies, earn 18,250 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 750 base) then refer P2, earn 28,250 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 750 base + 10,000 refer). 46,500 combined URs for spending $1,000...pair it with a CSR and you earned $697.50 back on $1,000 in spend

Offhand,

Gyft earns 3x UR on CIP when you use PayPal checkout with CIP selected as the payment method.

Same with a similar gift card app called Swych.

Venmo also earns 3x UR for P2P payments, but carries a 3% fee on credit cards, which the CIP’s 3x negates.

If you redeem your points towards travel through the CIP’s UR portal, they’re worth 25% more; or 50% more if you transfer the points to start to and redeem them on a CSR.

Thanks Lain.

Can I SM chase and have them lower my Cash Advance on the card?

I was just looking at DOC and was wondering if anyone has funded a checking/savings account with the CIP. I was targeting PNC.

I would also like to know how to buy VGCs and change them into a MO.

THANKS

oh my gosh, I snorted when I scrolled and that popped up.... i'm glad no one else was around

I wasn't sure if anyone here had seen that meme so I'm glad someone got it! lol. Of course I just went down a rabbit hole rereading the blog that's from now...

I funded PNC with the CIP. You can do 2k checking 2k savings. I would lower the cash advance limit just incase, but mine posted as a purchase, but you can’t be too cautious.

I just started buying Money Orders with Visa Gift Cards. I buy Metabank Visa Giftcards at Giant. On the back of the giftcard packaging it says which bank the card is issued by. Then I go to Harris Teeter and buy a Money order. The cards sometimes come with a pin. For the type I’m buying it’s the last four digits of the card number. I started buying a money order with a legit debit card to see how different stores worked. If they see it’s a giftcard a lot won’t allow it so you have to say it’s debit and hope they don’t check. I used a real debit card at one store and they didn’t ask to see my card, but the second time that same store checked. It’s very YMMV. You have to try what works in your area and be prepared to get denied. It took me three stores before I got it to work.

If you aren’t using Amex you can buy visa giftcards through GiftCardMall and they can even have your name on them. You shouldn’t have problems using those anywhere it’s hard to tell they are giftcards. But be aware of fraud and them getting stolen in the mail.
