I love credit cards so much!

I want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly. Anytime you make a travel charge on the CSR you get a $300 credit? How does that work? I think I’m misunderstanding - it’s either too good to be true or I really should’ve applied for this card!
If only...Nope, it’s a once per year $300 credit to be used for travel expenses. If it codes as travel, Chase automatically applies the credit. And it can be in increments. So like mine got used on SW taxes and EBCI, $15, $80, etc until it was gone.

You get $300 total per year. For travel charges like Uber, airlines, hotels, etc. I have used mine for airline gift cards & train fare.

Your interpretation is too good to be true, unfortunately. You get 1 annual $300 travel credit with the CSR. I think @gottalovepluto was trying to say that any type of travel can go against that $300 credit.

*/12 would be with chase apps, seems like 3-4/12 is not good with chase.
*/3 best to be 0/3 if u plan to double dip. would also keep 0/3 when applying regardless.

these are my own thoughts though, it my predictions based on whats posted on reddit and flyertalk.

Thanks. So the */12 is Chase apps only. Whew! I'm not worried about Chase apps just my general 5-8 other cards per year.

Thanks so much for all the advice, guys!

I only have the Citi right now, opened a year ago.

My DW unfortunately doesn't have much credit, so it's very doubtful she'd qualify for CSP, maybe Freedom.
That said, I could still hit the $8k spend for the double dip pretty easily, but is that better than a CIP? Is the $150 + $95 annuals worth it?

I'm admittedly a bit nervous about trying straight away for a CSR or CIP (no owned business). If the app happens to be rejected, wouldn't that greatly hinder trying to get others like the Amex?

She can use your income. If you start with the CSR and the CSP you will have the travel credit and ability to use CSR 1.5 value UR points faster. When a year is up and the AF hits then you'd pick which one you are keeping and PC the other to a Freedom. Once you've completed spend, you'd be past the 30 day mark to apply for the CIP. CSR isn't a business card and far more valuable than the CSP when it comes to point earning and redeeming. I personally feel the AF is worth it. So much so, that DH and I each have our own CSR cards and Ink+ (no longer available but same AF as CIP).

Perfect, thank you! It definitely seemed wayyy too good to be true lol. Thanks for clarifying!

HAHAHAHA, we wish! :)

ETA: This is why ALL questions are important, I'm glad you asked for clarification!

These are my cards:
SW+ 6/18/2017
SW-P 6/18/2017
UA - 8/1/2017
Amex BGP - 11/27/2017

Plan:
3/1/18 CIP
8/1/18 Double dip CSR/CSP

Is that a good plan? DH currently has the CSP - 4/1/17 - if I don't double dip, I could use his referral for the CSP and upgrade his CSP to a CSR, is that a good plan? I really want to take advantage of the 1.5X for our Hawaii trip.

Your plan seems very safe to me! I think 3 cards across 6 mos will be ok! Good luck :)

I smell a M$ opportunity ;-)

Seriously, what would happen if you put the refund back onto a debit card?

It’s funny you say that, I was thinking about that as I was typing lol. Hopefully this stays in this little nice community and the heavy hitters elsewhere don’t “discover” this and turn it into another churn and burn situation.

suspectingly. current 3 triggers i see now is
LOL/24, apply for cobrand (reddit DP)
4/12, mainly chase cards (reddit/flyertalk)
2/3, mainly chase cards (flyertalk)

also to note, 4/12, seems like many get their accounts back. LOL/24 and 2/3 do not.
**Note** these are my predictions.

2/3 would be two cards in three months, correct? I got CSP in 9/17 and CF in 10/17... and Marriott Biz in 1/18 lol.

I'm not sure how much help this is to anyone but if you have an BoA card with BankAmeriDeals I'm seeing a 10% back at Lowe's up to $12 back maximum on one transaction good through 3/20/2018.

Dang, that actually would have been useful for me. I just used a 10% back Petsmart deal on that card for DH's ebay business.

4/12 and 2/3 arent hard coded rule. its just a... you might get shut down because of that...
5/24 however, is hard coded rule.

Transferred 60k UR to southwest today to book my flights for a likely August Disney’s trip. Booked at 7:30 this morning ans the point cost has already doubled. Down to 250k ur, but planning to refer my dh for a cip, so that’s another 100kur.

I really need to get me some southwest cards, but I’m holding out for a potential companion pass next year. I’ve been slow with the cards lately, I’ll actually be 0/24 in august. By then I’ll even have a lot of post maternity leave vacation built up so that 2019can be a traveling year.

It's funny, because if they had shut me down for doing that I would have been totally freaked and would have had no idea what was going on. I had just started reading these boards when I applied for Chase Freedom, so to me I was just like "cool, more points! what is manufactured spending?" haha.

:welcome: you found the right thread for sure! Since you're just dipping your feet in right now I would keep it simple. Things to remember when evaluating a card: when will the bonus post (will it be soon enough for your trip) and can you meet the minimum spend and pay the card off 100% each month. Don't forget to stay discipline and only buy what you normally would have bought, it's easy to be like "ooh, I'm going to buy that because I'm meeting this min spend anyway" and then before you know it the savings you get from the bonus goes out the window with those extra purchases.

I'd chose something versatile and easy to redeem instead of straight up airline miles since finding the right flights available with miles with Delta, American, United can tough. No fun to work for the bonus and then be unable to use it.

Ok, all that out of the way- what to get?! Along the keeping it simply lines I recommend Chase as well. BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A CREDIT HISTORY OF AT LEAST 6 MONTHS, PREFERABLY 1 YEAR, TO GET A CARD WITH CHASE.

-Chase Sapphire Preferred has a $95 AF waived the first year and a 50,000 point bonus right now (worth $625 due to 1.25x redemption rate on travel booked through Chase's portal which for you could be flights or hotels) after you spend $4K in 3 months.
---Bottom line: $625 bonus for $4K spend

-Chase Sapphire Reserve -a little more complicated- has a $450 AF not waived the first year and will be charged on the first of the month following your approval. 50,000 point bonus after $4K spend in 3 months (worth $750 on travel booked through Chase's portal due to 1.5x redemption rate). This card also comes with 1 statement credit for TSA pre-check or global entry and a $300 travel credit that will be automatically applied anytime you have a travel charge (including Disney RESORT charges- not in park dining charges, for those to count you must charge them to the room for them to be deemed "travel").
---Bottom line: $695 bonus (if you get TSA pre-check or global entry, otherwise it's $600) for $4K spend

-The Double Dip. Can you handle $8K in spend in 3 months? If not, move on. If yes, check into it. You could net $1,445 for $8K spend (you transfer the CSP bonus to the CSR to redeem the points at 1.5x). The idea is apply for them on the same day, start early in the day on a business day. Get approved for the one you want the most, if you aren't approved immediately call reconsideration and try to get it approved asap (why it must be a biz day). After approval apply for the 2nd card in the same day. The system won't deny you for already having a sapphire because it doesn't fully process through the system. So far everyone has gotten both bonuses, obviously this could change any day but it's worked so far. Do you have the cash to meet a $8K spend but not the expenses? Prepay utility bills, internet bills, phone bills, look into plastiq, pay taxes, donate to charities you already had on tap to donate to this year (a number of them take cc these days), etc. If you don't have the cash for this, that's fine! It's too much for a number of people to take on so you're better off just concentrating on one cc.

These strategies are if you are just one person applying for a credit card. If you have an SO and can do "2 player mode" rock on, here's what you can do: refer them! Both of these cards have referrals of 10,000 points. So, you could get a CSP netting $625, refer SO and they get the same offer as you and net $625 plus you get the 10,000 point bonus which is $125 with CSP so at the end of the day you net $1,375 for $8K spend. The nice part about this is you can spread the spending out. CSR works the same way! Along those lines if you know someone with one of these cards already they can refer you or if you want come join our closed DIS churners group and use someone's link there to spread the chase love, they get 10K points and you get the same offer as if you had applied through the public Chase link. DM @SouthFayetteFan or @Albort to get hooked up. (We're nice over there, it's a closed group so no trolls, no reddit experience needed just an account.)

Wow, thanks! Such a great post with awesome information! And thanks to @Lain and @miztressuz for the backup!

My current open cards and accounts are only ~2 years old, but I have 12+ closed accounts dating back to 2012, so hopefully that helps.

I checked the Chase site and am pre-qualified for CSP, so I think I'm going to try to go for the CSR/CSP combo tomorrow morning!
I did also see a suggestion to double up CIP/CSP for 130k in points (80k + 50k) instead of the CSR/CSP gain of 100k.

Is one combo particularly better? Do you _need_ a business to qualify for CIP?

If all goes smoothly, hopefully I'll be able to get the DW on a CSP as well as a referral! :D

it needs to be a "business"

sorry, i had to do it...

Concern here...My CF payment is due the 21st. And I'm sure I'm the only one but here it is, I mailed my "check payment" (yep paper) on the 9th. They still don't have it. :headache:And I sent another card payment the same day and it was credited by the 12th.

I'm thinking I will have to make a payment online and have never done this. Certainly don't want it to be late. Never had an issue with checks. But how is it making a payment by way of online? Am I just going to have to link my checking account basically? Thanks
