Potential BAD news on CSR and CSP - 48 MONTH RULE!

The wording on the Chase public application link for CSP and CSR has changed to:
  • 50,000 Bonus Points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening
  • The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months. If you are an existing Sapphire customer and would like this product, please call the number on the back of your card to see if you are eligible for a product change. You will not receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products.
It's worth noting that I DO NOT see this language on the existing referral links...so...this is definitely one to keep an eye on folks.

Good catch, I checked the public links before throwing it here and it's plain as day on the Learn More pages :( Maybe couple day loophole until they refresh those links?

This is just wild...48 months is a LONG time. I just realized that I actually opened a CSP within 48 months... I received my CSP bonus on 2/12/2016... I can't begin to tell you how long ago that feels. I personally have gotten 30 cards since then!!

Oh no! That is awful news! I was planning to DD them next April or May. Gotta wait another two years!?!?!?! UGH, Chase just loves to be the party pooper, don't they?

I was just getting ready to report back with my latest DP. Previously, when @Lain got the error via Plastiq for his variable load, we suspected that perhaps variable load MCGCs were causing the issue. Well, I just ran a $205 payment (I had sent part of the balance to DH via Venmo, so $205 was remaining) via MasterPass from a $500 variable load MCGC through Plastiq with NO issue/error. I registered the card previously and added to my MasterPass account. When to Plastiq, went through the same steps as I did to link/add the previously fixed value MCGCs, and payment processed! Checked the balance via the giftcard site and the balance is now $0.

I'll be getting another MCGC variable load soon, so will come back after I try it again, but this one worked.

Was it USB or Meta or another bank?

After having success with the fixed but low value MCGCs, I decided to be another dp and am now hitting my head against a wall. Bought a variable USB MCGC at Kroger, came home to activate it.

Went to prepaidgiftbalance .com and that site will not accept the 16 digit card number in either the First Time Login or Returning Cardholder Login. Called in, and gave my info and was told I was good to go. The balance was correct. Waited one hour to allow their systems to refresh. Tried to enter it into MasterPass - got the "Something Went Wrong" message five times. Then Masterpass gave a message my account was being frozen or something like that bc of my repeated attempts to put this card on there.

Called back the number on the back of the MCGC and got the exact spelling of my address (they used an abbreviation since I gave them my info verbally, they entered it however they wanted). Called back MasterPass about unblocking my account. The rep said it was active, I tried to enter my card again with the corrected address spelling as the MCGC rep entered it. Still no success. MasterPass rep said she would submit a report to digital services and I should hear back in 24-72 hrs. Ugh!!!

This AMEX MSR is so aggravating.

Well I was about to say I'm pulling the trigger on SPG Lux for DH in the next hour or so when that bomb dropped. Ugh.

Anyways, hopefully it will come by Thursday and then I can send DH to Kroger to get Disney GCs to upgrade to APs and get TIW card. That'll run around $1125. And we'll get fuel points, which should save around $100 and if we end up being able to use them all, it'll be $130.

And then we can also get our Universal tickets, which will run $1050 total including all the HHN stuff.

I mean at this point, why not...

I'm guessing any day now is about early as some people could begin churning the CSR under the 24 month rule, since the CSR came out 8/21/16, figure a day or two for delivery, time to make a $5k MSR and for the bonus to post. Chase just moved the goal post.

Well the Sapphire language makes a change to the plan. Although I didn't really figure I'd actually be able to churn it in 2020. For one thing, the 4 years make sense given the GE credit on the CSR is every 4 years. Otherwise, not only do you get a bonus again, you'd get another GE/TSA credit by closing and reopening. But given their retention rates on them, CSR in particular, I kinda figured it'd change. But wow, thought maybe they'd see what happened in year 3 first - how many were keepers vs churners - before making the change; just decided to head it off at the pass first.
Have to keep an eye on this and what other changes get implemented between now and next year when I hoped to set up hubby for a double dip so we could cycle the cards every 2 years (potentially). More things to think about.

That is a VERY insightful comment!!

WHOA on the Sapphire news. Honestly makes me feel a lot better about abandoning 5/24, even though I’m still currently under. I’ll double dip DH and then we’ll be moving on. DH will have 6 Chase cards and I’ll have 4 and that’s plenty for me before they start putting eyes on our account for shutdown...

I wonder how long it will be before the rest of the Chase cards switch to the 48 month rule?

I was wondering the same thing.

So far, Chase hasn't implemented a "one Freedom rule" or "one Ink rule." And it seems the 5/24 rule still looks at new card accounts in only the last 24 months. But just looking at the next big anniversary, the CIP came out on ~10/19/16. How many people were thinking about churning the CIP? How many think Chase might add 48-months bonus language to the CIP? Or worse, extend it to the entire Ink family?
