Hawaii planning is kicking my butt! Usually I know I am flying SW so it makes it super easy to plan. With flying to HI and my goal of business or first class, there are so many things I don't know! Read up on reviews this weekend and I am leaning toward AA as their first class looks better. But that doesn't work with my stash of URs (right?). Though I could do a Marriott travel package and it looks like I could get AA miles...

I need some more pointers here. I read the Dischurners Reddit thread but not seeing my questions answered. How to start to plan for the flight and pick an airline. It looks like I could do AA, United or Delta. I am not familiar with any of them really. I could even go SW to the west (DEN, PHX or LAS) non-stop and then non-stop on another airline. It would be ideal to have 2 years to get things in line but I didn't start until earlier this year on this travel hacking stuff. I'm going in with the attitude it doesn't have to be 100% free but it will be cheaper than it would have been!

I have/will have 250K Hilton; 95K SPG; 350-400K UR. Flying from Columbus Ohio.

Kind of rambling so TL/DR:
1. How to research travel hacking to HI
2. Experiences on airlines, especially first class
3. How to plan flights to find mile/award flights

You can blame all the people who have plans for Tokyo Disney and Japan within the next few years: @calypso726, @Haley R, @DisneyMandC, @Calfan, @MEM, @JKalai, @MrPTato, and I think @Artygal90 mentioned it.
you can add me to the list as well. Was suppose to go last year but my grandma passed away a day after we were suppose to leave. Trip Insurance finally worked after 9 months of waiting. plan to do the Virgin Atlantic redemption on ANA on F/J class. I got family in Japan so should be pretty exciting.

Hi all! Some of you were kind enough to give me some advice a month or two ago when I was looking into getting some new cards after my divorce. I closed on my mortgage last week so I am good to go and want to apply for at least one card asap.

My main goal again is just to maximize Chase points for travel. I am at 3/24. The advice you guys gave me was go first for the CIP and then the CSR. I think I can meet the spend of both and then I would be waiting until next April to get another card.

My questions are:

1) I am still slightly worried about the "business" aspect of the CIP. I have sold something on ebay before and plan to do more now that I am getting divorced and cleaning out stuff, but it would be a stretch to say I generated any sort of income this year from that. I don't sell anything on Etsy or anything like that. The only real selling going on around here is Girl Scout Cookies and Boy Scout popcorn, ha! So I feel a little uncomfortable about it.. am I over-thinking it or should I skip this one until I can generate more of a "revenue"?
2) If I do go for CIP and get denied, does that hurt my credit?
3) If I don't go for CIP, and instead do CSR, what should my second card be? Besides sign up bonuses, I am looking for a good everyday card.

Thanks!!! I really appreciate all your help and will definitely head over to Reddit to check things out when I am ready. :)

1) anything can be considered a business. Im not sure if we posted this for u but we did for a few people who also feel the same way.

2) If you go for a CIP, it shouldnt affect your credit much. even if it did, it would most likely rebound with a month or 2.
3) if you dont for the CIP, and go for the CSR, i would suggest going after CSR+CSP at the same time. it has an 8k MSR but you get close to 110k UR points. If that isnt doable, your next cards you would want to look at is the Freedom card line. That should complete your UR earning cards. After that, you can consider moving onto other cards.

I've finished up my CIC MSR and I'm trying to figure out my next move. I know I'm going to want the new Southwest card when it comes out, but I don't think we will get use out of the CP so probably not concerned with getting more than one Southwest card. We fly my step-daughter down on Southwest so we would love points, but not really a CP.

I have pulled up the 100k offer for the Amex Platinum on card match and I am thinking about it. Would probably wait until the end of the year to triple dip though. Also not completely ok with the huge annual fee. But I really want to do an Alaska cruise next year and it looks like the 100k MRs would work perfect for flights there.

Thinking while I wait for the Southwest card and maybe Amex Plat that I jump on the Hilton business card while it's at 125k. I have some points from stays this past year that I'd like to keep from expiring and I know at some point in the future we want to go to Tokyo and Hilton points will be very handy.

My stats are:
CSP - 1/2018
AU on DHs JetBlue - 3/2018 (going to remove myself eventually)
SPG personal - 4/2018
CIC - 5/2018

Sounds like a solid plan, just watch out for your 5/24 status!

your first action would be to look your flights up on awardhacker.com.
your 2nd step would be to call Korean Air. From the west coast, its 25k RT Delta Metal, 30k RT Hawaiian Air Metal/Alaska Metal. Im not sure what the J class rate is for this route.
you should also check BA as well. KE/BA rates are based on sections so their point redemption tend to be cheaper.

i believe SW will start flying to Hawaii next year. you could possibly spend your energy then instead of now.

I am completely new to the whole Albort thing lol. I’m so confused.

Lol! Take a peek at some of the old threads @Lain linked to get the full picture. The threads are quite entertaining. But in a nutshell, @Albort was a DL CM. Whe DIS’ers found out, they began trying to hunt him down in the park. He didn’t really want to be found. The couple times he was found, he didn’t want his pic posted because then others could find him easier.

back in the days, i was helping people on the disneyland board with questions they had while i worked at DL. It was when the Tag Fairy put "The question is - Who can find me?" I think a bunch of disboards member saw that and it turned into a game for them. At first it was easy for people to find me because i was always on stage at one of the ice cream carts/churro cart/etc. I usually ask ppl not to post a picture as it would be too easy to find me if they did. After awhile, i moved up to other positions which sometimes makes me stay backstage for a whole month so it sorta died down afterwards... but overall, it was quite the entertainment lol.

jokingly, @wendow use some of my referrals, She got some redemption tokens and used them to make me appear... XD

I've been reading the trip planning forums and came across trip reports by @DisneyMandC and @amalone1013, which I have really enjoyed reading. :flower1::sunny::flower::daisy: (sun and flower smilies for the weeds growing in my yard while I'm reading trip reports . . . )

Anyone else here have WDW trip (or dining) reports?

I will have to check out those reports, so much fun reading trip reports.

I have one from April/MAY 2017,
https://www.disboards.com/threads/trip-of-a-lifetime-2017-29apr-08may.3640483/

coincidently. this was the trip that started my obsession with Disney and Credit cards.
I am proud how the planning and research made for a perfect trip.
And I can still say this thread is the most helpful resource of any I find or have ever found.

So even though I struggle to keep up...Can't be said enough....THANK YOU!!!to all who post here....

1. When applying for a business card, you really need only a colorable claim to having a “business.”

You’ll only ever really discuss your “business” and how much revenue it makes with an actual human at Chase if you’re denied a card and you plead your case with reconsideration. Then you’ll need to have your story straight about what your business is, how long you’ve been doing it, how much your business makes and what the basis is for the revenue you listed on your application.

If you apply, and you’re instantly or automatically (after some time pending) approved by Chase’s application system, it will have been the computer that took all the data on your application, ran it through its algorithm, and determined you’re within the guidelines of approval for that product. You’ll never have to speak to a human until you’ve already been approved, if ever.

You’re injecting a very human reluctance to apply for a business card because of what you perceive as low revenue. Business revenue is just one factor the computer considers. And keep in mind the application is asking about revenue, not profit, so use gross numbers without expenses. There are different ways of estimating revenue, too. You can take last year’s revenue, YTD revenue, or make projections based on past sales. Anecdotally, DW did about $1,500 worth of eBay sales in 2016, but didn’t sell anything last year, but we still use that number for revenue on her business card applications because most of those sales were towards the end of the year and she could easily hit those numbers again with just a little effort.

Besides, it really seems that Chase weighs personal/household income much more heavily than business revenue because we’ve had people get approved for Chase business cards with just $5 to a few hundred dollars of revenue. And because income is likely a major factor in Chase approvals, a related factor is how much total credit Chase has already extended to you relative to your total household income. There’s a growing consensus that for Chase applications, it’s best to keep that credit to income ratio under 50% to increase the odds of automatic approval. I personally think these two factors are huge in deciding whether you’ll be approved or denied a Chase card.

2. When you apply for the CIP, Chase will do a hard pull of your credit report whether you’re ultimately approved or not. Your credit score will probably take a small hit (maybe 2-5 points), but it’ll recover fast enough. If you’re denied, you won’t get a further hit from that. If you’re approved, you won’t take a hit for a new account either because the CIP is a business card and Chase does not report their business cards to your personal credit report. If anything, you may see an uptick in your credit score in the next few months because a corollary of the CIP not showing on your credit reports is that any balance on the CIP also don’t show on your credit report. Charges that go on your personal cards contribute to a balance that is reported and factors into your credit utilization ratio. As you shift these charges to the CIP that is not reported, your credit utilization ratio goes down and your credit score tends to go up.

3. If you don’t go for the CIP and instead go for the CSR first, I’d suggest double dipping the CSR with the CSP then downgrading one of these cards to a Chase Freedom or Freedom Unlimited after the first year. This way you can get around the one Sapphire rule restriction on holding only 1 Sapphire card at a time and getting only 1 Sapphire bonus in a 24 months period. Because of the one Sapphire rule, if you get the CSR without double dipping the CSP, you’re locking yourself out from getting the CSP (and its 50k UR bonus) for 2 years after you get the CSR’s bonus — and you’ll have only gotten 1x 50k UR Sapphire bonus instead of 2x Sapphire bonuses in that time.

The problem with going for the CSR+CSP double dip in your situation is you’re 3/24, so those two cards would put you at 5/24 and preclude you from the CIP (and a lot of other Chase cards) until another card ages past 24 months. That’s why I think most people recommended you go for the CIP first, while you’re still under 5/24, because the CIP is subject to the 5/24 rule for approvals, but won’t add to your 5/24 count, and leave you two open slots for more cards.

I hate the waiting game. We are closing on a refi (hopefully on Saturday). Just got done with DH's CIP spend and waiting on those points so I can book a cruise. Also waiting on SW Business and Plus points to post so I can cancel those cards and then I am going to use DH's referral and apply for CIP. Waiting on ordering new carpeting until I get a a new card. So, when I apply I will be 0/6 and 1/12 so should be good to go on getting the CIP (I hope)

Couple of questions:
1. I used to have the CSR but product changed it to a Freedom Card. Well, now I want the CSR back as I will be booking a cruise with points and the AF will offset the money I am saving with booking with CSR. I also have the CSP which I know I could upgrade but this is the only card that everyone in the family has (Me DH, DS, DS) so would like to keep that as is if possible. But now sure if they will let me upgrade back to CSR if I also have the CSP??

2. So, once the points post for DH's CIP I will have over 200,000 UR's which if I can get the CSR would be worth $3,000 towards a cruise. I haven't really paid much attention to using the Cruise/Tour Dept as I never thought I would use them for this. My understanding is that I can call Chase and book with my points or I can book with Carnival or RCCL and then transfer the booking within 30 days and then I can pay with UR"s. How do you go about doing this? My brother and family will be going also so we will want to book at the same time so we can get rooms by each other. So, thinking booking first with Cruiseline then transferring might be easier but maybe not...

Ha!!! Sounds like my tax appts with ex-DH! :) I do work from home and have a home office, but I really just don't have my own business. Besides selling ONE thing on eBAY, that's it. I usually donate stuff we don't need anymore. I would prefer the CIP over the CSP, I just don't want to do anything shady. Really racking my brain to see if anything else I have done could be considered a business....

If I don't go for it, do you think the CFU would be better for everyday spending over the CSP? I know it doesn't get as big a bonus, but would it yield more in the end on everyday purchases? Besides these new cards I have a Disney Visa and a Barclaycard, neither of which has great cash back.

What island(s)/time of year are you looking at, and how many people in your travel party?

Interesting dilemma. I don’t think you can upgrade back to a CSR if you’re currently holding the CSP. And are DH and DSes AUs on the CSP? Then it wouldn’t be practical to upgrade the CSP to a CSR either because the CSR charges $75 per AU.

Hello everyone! I've been MIA for awhile and trying to catch up now. My Nana passed away recently and we were very close :(.

Just getting back into my vacation planning. I wanted to give another update on trying to reserve a Universal Hotel with UR's and also trying to snag an APH rate. I last reported my first attempt did not work. I had reserved a room with the APH rate direct with Loews and tried to transfer the reservation. In the end I was told this could not be done because the APH rate is just a "placeholder" and paid for at time of checking in. I was told that I could call back and try to see if Cruise and Tours could book direct once I saw an APH rate available. I have called 3 times and have been told the same answer, no it isn't possible. Unlike Disney, Universal can only be booked through Funjet, not direct, and therefore cannot use any special rate codes. Just wanted to give my experience in case anyone else was curious about this.

Sincerely sorry about your Nana :grouphug:. When we are little Mom and dad often tell us “ don’t do this/ don’t do that” Nanas come by and say “what do you want to do?” Very special people.

DP on the PNC checking bonus with no state restriction. My state usually isn't included.

5/23 opened PNC Virtual Wallet with Performance Select checking, funded with $2000 from CSR
5/25 $2,000 posted
5/30 pushed $5,000 from PayPal
5/31 $5,000 posted as direct deposit
6/06 Made the last of required 10 debit transactions (amazon reloads)
6/22 Received $300 bonus

I will soon downgrade to regular Virtual Wallet and keep $500 to remain fee free for the remainder of the six months.

I was planning to simply close my account and pay the $25 early closure fee. I didn't realize you could downgrade, so good news! Please post back if you run into issues. Thanks!!!

I will have to check out those reports, so much fun reading trip reports.

I have one from April/MAY 2017,

Ha, my wedding TR is the one that started me on credit cards (at least planning for it)... and also my WDW obsession, I'd only been to DLR twice before that. I love DLR too!

We had such a great time at DLR! Definitely will go back another time. I also got to meet a DIS’er while at DL! It was great getting to meet someone I chat with regularly and who has been really helpful to me! Here’s a pic of us :-)

Hello everyone! I've been MIA for awhile and trying to catch up now. My Nana passed away recently and we were very close :(.

So sorry about your nana. Sending thoughts and hugs your way!

DH and both kids are AU on CSP. I certainly don't want to pay $75 for fees on those. DH has a Freedom that we had also downgraded from CSR. Maybe I will see about having that one upgraded. No AU's on that one and he does not have the CSP (except for AU on mine but that is over 24 months anyway). Was going to have him try for both CSR/CSP early next year but would also want to get the $300 travel credit twice so may have to wait on that...

Sincerely sorry about your Nana :grouphug:. When we are little Mom and dad often tell us “ don’t do this/ don’t do that” Nanas come by and say “what do you want to do?” Very special people.
@vanjust14 --echoing sympathy for your loss. Nanas are the best!

Awww, so true they really are! Thank you both and thank all of you for your sympathy, it means a lot!!

Can someone answer this question: I justed redeemed for a rental car using UR points (car is through Alamo). Alamo waives the additional driver fee if you are an Alamo Insider member (which I am). Since the rental is through a 3rd party, there's no place to include my Insider number. I called Alamo and they said it can be handled directly at the counter and I won't get charged for the additional driver. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you.

If you have your Alamo confirmation number, you can do online checkin, enter the 2nd driver info, and skip the counter completely. I book my Alamo rentals through Costco and always do online checkin and add my additional driver at that time.
