We have a trip planned in Dec 2019. We already have the no yearly fee Disney Visas. I am considering the Premier so we can get the $200 credit and the 2% on groceries and gas. It also says 2% at most Disney locations. Does this apply to your Disney trip if you charge it? Besides gas and groceries, what else have ya'll found to be great? Carrie
First off I don't have the Premier card, I have the no fee one as well. That said, your Disney trip should earn you the 2%, I think the
Disney store may as well. But there may be other cards that do the same or better for no annual fee... or at least get you more benefits for the AF money. Just wanted to put that out there for you as most likely many of us may want to steer you to another card depending on your actual goals
There's nothing really wrong with the Premier card, I think several people on the thread have a had it at some point, so if that's truly what you're comfortable with ultimately no shame in going for it. But if you're open to other options there's a boatload of knowledge people on here that can point you in a good direction.
I'll start by pointing out that while we have the no fee card, we don't put as much spend on it as we had before once I thought of a slightly better way to use other points. If I put my spend on my Disney card, I get 1% back on everything only (unless they had a special promotion) and those points are basically a gift card to Disney for a simplified return of 1%. But, if I instead put that same spend on say my Chase Freedom card, I can earn my 1% (at least) on that, charge my Disney purchases to the same card to earn additional 1% on that, then use my Freedom cashback as a statement credit. So now I still got my Disney charges for free, but also earned 1% more on them for a return of slightly more than 1%. And it doesn't really add much complexity to it.
So thinking about the Disney Premier card, it gets 2% back on gas and groceries. The Freedom card has rotating quarterly categories that get 5% back (up to $1500 spent), and usually at least one quarter is gas and one quarter is groceries (not guaranteed, but usually). This involves a little more math, but even with the limitation you may still earn more using the 5% category. Then you have more money to spend at Disney all with a no annual fee card
That's just my example, there are better returns and more things that can be done depending on your goals. If you share them maybe someone can find you something better to do with that $49. Especially since you have a nice bit of time to amass points
