I love credit cards so much!

Just saw the news that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled to open at WDW in late fall 2019. I told DH we would probably be too early to see it on our trip that September, but that maybe that would work out better for us because crowds might be lower right before it opens. Then I said “we’ll just have to go back in spring 2020 to see it on a long weekend.” His response: “how are we going to afford that after our big trip?” Clearly, he doesn’t listen to a thing I say about credit cards :rolleyes:

We have this discussion a lot.
Me: looks like we can go on this trip in that month, then that trip in that month, etc.
DH: how can we afford all these trips?
Me: do you listen when I talk to you?:sad2:

But wait, where do you read that?

Most people's vacation problem is having enough money to go...

My problem...school schedules interfering and not having enough vacation days (and I have 25 vacation days, lol!) Money is the LAST concern when it comes to trip planning LOL! I'm sure many you of share that feeling :)

EDIT: I should add for any newbies that stumble on this comment - this IS NOT because we are all rich. Far from it, it's just that I am able to earn and accrue travel points through credit cards faster than I can use them. Churning Level Expert :D

That’s exactly DH (or, uh, maybe all men...). I get the feeling once we really do a big redemption on a trip he might get the message. In the meantime he just lets me sign him up for whichever credit card I want. I saw that he used his new CIC to buy Pepto Bismal after getting sick this morning! Happy churning!:rotfl2:

I just saw the Disney Parks Blog posted about it on Facebook about 30 minutes ago. I think it said the one at DL will be Summer 2019.

I feel the same way! I get approximately 4 weeks of PTO each year, but I don’t have separate sick leave. So if I get sick back like I did over the winter with the flu, it can really derail my plans. I also use a lot of my leave for horse shows. I’m taking 11 days between now and the end of August just for horse shows, plus another 3 for DL in there.

LOVE THIS. Am copying next time I travel with fam members with black luggage. (They'll be fine with it, I'm the one who hauls our stuff off the carousels when we group travel anyway!)

I used to use large yellow cable ties on the side handle of all our bags and that made it pretty simple to identify them... Now-a-days since our travel has changed, I just use large yellow MDE tags. :rotfl2:

Hmm so I’m thinking about changing my hotel reservation for DL in July to the Hilton Anaheim. The Hilton Honors cash rate is $124 a night, plus taxes puts us at $294 total. We were planning to stay at one of the Best Westerns (Pavillions maybe?) for $250 total. I’m thinking that maybe I could put my booking together for the Hilton and see if it triggers the $50 statement credit, 125k business card offer. I think that would be a pretty good deal. Anyone see any downsides? Anyone stay at the Hilton? The walk to DL doesnt look bad at all plus I think there’s a shuttle.

Thank you @miztressuz for providing the link and @Lain for the detailed write-up, awesome instructions!
@Lain has provided some great write-ups! Thanks to him I am loving gyft/PayPal and of course paying my mortgage through Plastiq after following his instructions. Speaking of which, I'm sorry @disneymagicgirl yours stopped working all of a sudden :( I was going to ask which company but @Lain remembered for me :rotfl2:

Do you have experience at best westerns? I don’t but based on just my perception of them I’d gonwith the full service Hilton.

Yes, I do, because we stay in dumpy hotels all the time for horse shows! Ask me about the luxurious Super 8 I’ll be staying in this Friday night! Hahaha. But I wouldn’t mind the Best Western, particularly since we are all day park people so we won’t be taking a break for the pool or anything. I had actually looked at the Hilton before since I thought that was a great rate and just hadn’t booked it. But with the statement credit and getting the card and earning points on the stay, it would be a good spend for us I think.

Hahaha, ok! I’m kinda a hotel snob. :D
Well, I’m not at the level of the famous Plane Princess, but I’m pretty picky.

I had a really nice stay at an airport Hilton Garden Inn this weekend -- a perk of being Gold status (courtesy of AmEx platinum I think) is free breakfast, and this breakfast was actually pretty good. Definitely better than most free hotel breakfasts.

I love garden inns. They are almost always fairly new, at least thats been our experience, whereas the Hampton inns are quite hit or miss.

This is us, except I don’t actually stay at dumpy hotels. At DL, we stayed at one of the motels right across the street. Couldn’t beat the walk, we watched fireworks from our room and spent most of the days at the parks. We did manage the pool for an hour one day (and you can see the park/fireworks from the pool as well) but otherwise dropped off to sleep a few minutes after getting back to the room each night and woke up to McDs coffee in the am.

Let me pull up my spreadsheet.

:rotfl2:

@Ava: CIP (9/17); Marriott Biz (2/18); CIC (5/18)
@SBWB48: CIP (7/17); Marriott Biz (2/18); CIC (5/18)
@Lain: CIP (6/17); Marriott Biz (2/18); CIC (5/18)

Anyone else? I'll add it to my spreadsheet.

P.S. I don't really have a spreadsheet. :laughing:

HAAAAAA! I totally believed you did. :flower3:
ETA: Interestingly, you all got the 3 cards on roughly the same schedule in the same order.

Yeah, I noticed that. The same 3 cards too! (Kind of gives you a snapshot of what this thread's card of that moment looks like.) I think spacing out your apps and proactively reducing your credit limits helps.

I want to say we all got the SPG Biz at the same time in between the Marriott and CIC as well...at least I remember @Lain did. Can’t quite remember whether @Ava did as well? I’ll need to borrow @Lain’s spreadsheet :rotfl2:
