I love credit cards so much!

Thanks for posting this! The Chase personal checking was one of the easiest bonuses ever. I talked to DH and he is willing to go in branch and open a business account! He just said he would like me to go with him for moral support. I plan to open one as well, at another time, which means that we will be $1000 closer to our DVC fund goal in just a few months! :D
I'm jealous. We have no chase branches anywhere near us.

Question for all you Schwab folks out there, is there any downside to opening the brokerage account ala @SouthFayetteFan awesome guide to the Schwab AmEx Platinum card? It says no opening or maintenance fees, but there has to be some type of fee, is it just buying/per trade fees? (Their fee booklet is like 20 pages so I'd like some back up I'm not missing something.) I'm not quite at the point where I'm ready to do a Plat run as outlined, but if there's no downside to having one I figure it can't hurt to open it now and have it ready for the future. Plus been thinking about their banking products on and off for a while now so I could add the checking account to it.

Other than it not being very smart, conceivably I can drop money in there, get the small bonus and as long as I don't buy anything with it there's no fees, so I'm good to go? Then at some point if I can't find a better use for MR points I could get the Schwab Plat and go to town?

Wait, why not at the same time? Are you not supposed to do that? I went with SO and opened two Biz checking accounts at Wells Fargo for the bonus at the same time. Does that look suspicious?

Pretty sure I'm going to go for that Hilton business card before it expires next month... You guys are such a bad influence :rotfl2:

Also, I can't remember if there was any input on doing a separate DL thread on Reddit, but I think it might be a good idea, for whatever that's worth!

Plus one on both accounts! I think I'm going to have DH apply for the Hilton Biz on 6/1. We have a Hilton stay on 6/15 and then one in October of this year.

And I agree with a separate DL thread!

That’s awesome!!! (Just don’t let them talk you into being a signer on the account as it would disqualify you from your own bonus.)

I just linked my Chase Freedom card to paypal. I've never had a credit card linked, so I just want to be sure I get how it works. When I select paypal as a payment method, then select my chase freedom as the way to pay, it just goes as a charge on my CF card, right? And then I'll get 5x the rewards since it's PayPal. I'm just making a purchase on Lands End, but also see that the Southwest portal has 3x rewards for lands end - so if I go through that portal and then select PayPal to pay, will I get SW points and UR points?

FYI: Don't hit minimum spends and then return things and not put the spend back on the card. You may get the points, but is it really the right thing to do long term?

This comment stems from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8k33eh/daily_discussion_thread_may_17_2018/dz5o9vz/

I don't think we have anybody doing this here, and while this Redditor feels ok with it...IMHO it's just not right. I get that we operate on the fringe of the rules, but not reaching the minimum spend and taking advantage of the card issuers system limitations to track returns on MSRs probably isn't an arena we want to operate in. If anybody disagrees, I'd love to hear that viewpoint though :) I can respect a different opinion stated respectfully with logic.

Did anyone read the MMS article the other day explaining how to be able to wait with someone at their gate in the airport without actually flying anywhere? It was basically "buy a southwest ticket to anywhere on points, go through security, cancel the flight as soon as you get through and have points refunded, hang out with friend for free!" Uhhhh...

And for the record, this wasn't some sort of "be able to wait with your unaccompanied minor at the gate" type article either. Just two adults.

Yep, you got it. Unless the SW terms say something like purchases through third party wallets/apps are excluded you should get the SW points too.

Yeah, DH is applying under his sole proprietor software "consulting business." I am not a programmer. :P And I personally have a legit 5k in eBay sales this year, so I don't feel like I only have a "business" anymore.

So I was about to make my first purchase using PayPal linked to my Chase Freedom for the 5x rewards, it was for clothing on Lands End.com. And when I clicked to pay with PayPal it added in tax on the clothing. I live in MA and we don't have sales tax on clothing. If I click to just pay with a credit card instead of using PayPal it doesn't add the tax. The tax is more than the 5x would be worth. Anyone have any work arounds on this?

This sounds very problematic.

I wiped out my IHG points.

My cousin wanted me to ask my mom if she would loan her some money so that she could get a hotel for a weekend to visit my aunt (her mom) before my aunt moves to Texas. I knew that my mom would not be super happy, so I decided to just book my cousin at the Holiday Inn Express using my points. Once my aunt moves to Texas, who knows how long it will be before my cousin and her kids see her again. My cousin is not in a good place financially. My thought was that I can always get more IHG points, but my cousin just has this one opportunity to see her mom before she leaves.

Plus, DH still has a bunch of points in his account.

This is so sweet.

So there was a snag with my Memory Bank bonus. DH's posted fine, so I thought mine had too. But when I went to check, it wasn't showing up. I called and it turns out that one of my ACH transactions posted before they manually applied the bonus promo code. So my bonus won't post until next month. No big deal. The rep was really nice about it and is sending me a $5 Starbucks gift card as an apology.

Usually the tax will drop off when the actual charge posts. Not sure why PayPal is making a difference, but I went to Land's End to check it out and without going to PayPal checkout just putting in my zip is giving me an estimated tax too but in PA we also don't pay tax on most clothes. (We do pay tax on shipping, not sure how MA does that, or if that would apply for you). I'm guessing it's doing the highest estimated charges for approval, and then the actual charge should be correct. But if you get charged tax that's on Land's End and you'd just dispute it with them. I think you're ok though.

I think that's when double dipping is most recommended! But first, I'd apply for the SW biz. You need to be under 5/24 to get it, but it won't count towards your 5/24. That still leaves a slot open for a single dip or a double dip of CSR/CSP....now I want ice cream!
As far as whether or not you'll be approved...nobody here knows for sure. You didn't mention your score but I think your other stats look fine.

The UR earning cards are pretty easy to understand. The points transfer to many partners at 1:1. For example, 10k UR = 10k SWRR. Very easy to transfer, too.
Most of the transfers are instantaneous. Another option is booking travel with them on the UR site. I've found this to be a great option for some of the cheaper airfares on other airlines that wouldn't be worth using 25-35K points for a Delta, United or AA flight.
