I love credit cards so much!

I'm back for more instruction!

I've decided to double dip the CSP/CSR and get the Amex. I'd like the Chase cards for June travel, and if like to take advantage of the Amex deal before it's gone, so I have to apply soon.

What is the application strategy? I was reading CSR first, then CSP in incognito mode (or both incognito???). Should I apply for the Amex at the same time? I'd prefer to stagger them, but don't want to miss out on the Amex deal. We can do the minimum spend easily with some upcoming expenses (which is why I started thinking we need a better CC reward strategy!).

Also, I am not on Reddit. Is it jusr another message board?
I PMed you :) DISchurners is where we share some of our best tips. Also when you apply for some cards you can support other DISers. This would work on the CSR and CSP cards.

I have probably asked this before and it has probably been answered, but as I read and learn more, it gives me other thoughts/ideas. This is my current situation. I am 4/24; two of those are Chase, 1 is Mattress Firm and 1 is JC Penney. I’m at 22% of credit card debt to credit card limit and my Chase credit card limits are 48% of mine and DH’s combined income. DH is 3/24 (and stupid, stupid, stupid I know) those are Fleet Farm (a local/regional business), Wells Fargo (for Ashley Furniture) and JC Penney. He is at 30% of credit card debt to credit card limit (because his limits are so low) and his Chase credit card limit is 16% of our combined income. Both of us are also together on a Chase vehicle lease that was opened in February. Not sure if that factors in anywhere.

So, can you provide advice on what I should do? We are really, really fond of the Southwest miles. If I tried for (and got) the SW business card, I would meet the requirements for a CP; granted, I would probably meet those requirements August/September ish and most of this year would be gone, but I’d still have all of next year to use it. I don’t know if I should try for a different card and then perhaps have DH double dip a SW card.

I’ll be honest…I want to keep this easy. Don’t judge, but I don’t want to get involved in some of the other things I know are done, i.e. Plastiq. I’m just not there (yet) and want to get some easy sign-on bonuses with maybe a single minimum spend at a time.

Hope someone can offer me some advice.
Hey - sorry this got missed :( Are you interested in business cards? :)

EDIT: sorry was reading on mobile - I see now you mentioned SW biz. Have you considered getting a CIP card?

So...if I asked a question back on page 1434 that wasn't answered, does it mean everyone is sick of me??? Or things move so fast that it just got "lost???" If it's because you're sick of me, just ignore this post because I'd rather believe my question just got lost as opposed to people being sick of me :-).
Don't take it personally!
I see that you are considering the SW biz card. Do you need those points and the companion pass this year? Remember, you need 110K qualifying points for the CP. The sign up bonus from the SW biz card gets you 60K. You'll either need to spend the rest or earn the rest...or get a SW personal card. The Biz card won't count towards your 5/24 but you do need to be under 5/24 to get it. So you need to apply for that one first. Do you have a business or a "business"?

Another option that can be transferred to SW would be an UR earning card like the CSR or CSP. Some people have double dipped those. What are your 2 chase cards? Those points don't count towards a CP.

First off, reddit is a social news and discussion site that's organized by subject and interests into subreddits. We have a subreddit called DISchurners at: https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/ It's a private group of about 150 of us, and we encourage everyone to sign up for reddit and join DISchurners because that’s where we keep our most useful tips (since things tend to move fast and get buried here) and links to credit card applications and other money saving services that you can use if you want to show some appreciation to fellow members of this community. To join, just message either @SouthFayetteFan, @Albort, or me with your reddit username, and we'll invite you to DISchurners.

As you may know by now, Chase has a so-called "one Sapphire rule," meaning that Chase will only approve new applicants for a Sapphire card if they don't currently hold a Sapphire card and they haven't received a signup bonus on a Sapphire product in the past 24 months. You're good on that front. But under that rule, that means you can only get the CSP or the CSR, not both. Double dipping will get you around the "one Sapphire rule" by applying and getting approved for two Sapphire cards on the same day before Chase’s system knows you’ve gotten two cards despite their restriction. You’re essentially trying to sneak a second card approval in before Chase’s system is updated to recognize that it already approved you for your first Sapphire card and you're ineligible for the second.

For a double dip, start applying early during regular business hours of a non-holiday weekday in case you need to call Chase reconsideration ("recon") or verification departments.

For personal cards, be sure you're not running afoul of the 2/30 rule: you can only have two Chase credit card applications every 30 days or you'll likely be rejected.

Apply for the card you want first. If you're not instantly approved and perhaps got the we'll let you know in 30 days message, call the automated status line at 1-800-432-3117 to check the status of your application. If you still aren't approved, call recon at 1-888-270-2127 to get it approved. They'll likely ask you identity verification questions.

After that first card is approved, use a different internet browser or an incognito window for the second application, so Chase doesn’t get your cookies crossed and think you’re submitting a duplicate application in error. If you're not insta-approved, you can try to wait it out by checking the automated status line after an hour or so, but if you're still not approved then call recon to get it approved on the same day as the first approval. If you have to call recon, mention that you are calling about the second card only. You don't want recon realizing you've just been approved for an earlier Sapphire. It's likely an issue with needing to move around credit lines in order to have enough available credit to open up a new card.

As for the Amex Platinum, fingers crossed you can pull it up on Cardmatch again! These kinds of targeted offers have a tendency to disappear or expire and may or may not come around again. If you think you can meet the combined CSP+CSR MSR of $8k in 3 months and the Platinum's $5k MSR in the same 3 months, go for it! It's a great deal!

I don't really have a recommendation about applying for the Chase Sapphire double dip first or the Amex Platinum first. There are considerations both ways. Applying for two credit cards from Chase on the same day is a bit unusual (but necessary to get around the one Sapphire rule), so you may not want to draw more scrutiny by applying for the Platinum first and having Amex make a hard pull of your credit report just before your double dip. So in that sense, go for the CSP+CSR first. But you don't want to wait too long to apply for the Platinum because you could miss out on that offer. You could apply for the Platinum as soon as your CSP and CSR are approved, but Amex and Chase won't combine their hard pulls even if made on the same day so you'll see two hard pulls regardless of whether you apply for the Platinum on the same day as the CSP+CSR or on a later day. I’d add that although it’s likely that Amex will make a hard inquiry of your credit report when you apply for the Platinum, Amex will not report the opening of the new Platinum to your credit reports until at least the close of your first statement a month later, and more likely after the close of two statements or about two months later.

Of course, the Platinum offer is targeted and your best deal is to apply through the Cardmatch link. However, we do encourage people applying for new credit cards to show their support for the DIS community by applying through a DISchurners link whenever it's the same or better than the public offer. It's really a small thing to click through a link on reddit instead of a search engine, but it means a lot to the people here to know that their posts have been helpful to you and others.

Good luck!

@LB002, I wanted to add to @Lain ’s amazing post...
In regards to meeting msr x3 to the tune of $13k, you can knock out some chunks by sending your mortgage and many other things through plastiq.
You incur a fee, but you are earning back waaaayyyy more in bonus points that you spend on the fees. It can always be a last resort if the 90 day ornso deadline is approaching. Also, paying bills ahead is a good way to hit msr.

Hi, strangers. I haven't been on the DIS at all since I double-dipped CSR and CSP. We are not too far from meeting the spends on both, so yay for lots of UR points coming our way soon!

Question for you all: We go to France next month and thought it would be good to have a Chip and Pin card (not just Chip and Signature) in case we need to use a parking meter or ticket machine. DH has the Barclay Arrival Plus and we were going to cancel his before the annual fee hits just before our trip, then get me one instead to use during our trip. However, in the meantime, they discontinued that card. So, we've been debating if we keep his card (that has about $40 worth of points on it and we can't cash out until we get to $100) and pay the AF ($75 or $89, can't remember?) or if we cancel and find some other alternative. One that DH came up with as an option is the Barclay Wyndham Rewards no-fee card. Seems to have Chip and Pin and no foreign transaction fees. Would get us a free hotel night for intro bonus. Anyone have this card? Or have other recommendations? We are both at or over 5/24 now in case that matters. Thanks!

Interesting post by DoC comparing all 4 Hilton cards. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/four-american-express-hilton-cards-compared/

Reminder: AMEX has a 4 or 5 CC limit (charge cards do not count towards this).

IF you were in 2 player mode...and you both got all 4 cards, you could earn almost 900,000 Hilton points (depending on how you met the min. spends). I'm not necessarily saying you should do this...but that'd still be a pretty awesome haul. With the Marriott/SPG lineup and the Hilton lineup, hotel points have never been easier to come by!

without paying an AF, i would just stick with a true debit card. like the Charles Schwab debit card. Always swipe credit until u cant.
Charles Schwab also rebates your your atm fees if you need to withdraw money from an ATM. they work well in states as well as a backup atm card incase u need to withdraw and the bank u need to withdraw from is no where in sight.

Was just reading it and wondering if anyone had said anything here about it yet. Would make sense to do the biz and then when you were closer to travel go for the one with the $450 af to get the benefits etc unless you always stay at hilton.

We didn’t have maxpass but even with 5 day hoppers, I could have stayed longer. Loved Carsland.
Honestly, 5 day hoppers would be my dream, but I can’t justify it to take that much time off work for Disney, boo! That’s why I’ve never been to WDW. It’s such a big commitment, a week at least. Planning for my 50th in 3 yrs though!

I know we’re the credit card thread here but since some of you are like me and also churn bank bonuses: Chase has a nationwide offer for $500(!) for their business performance checking. This is fairly rare as this offer has been by targeted mailer only recently so if interested grab your code now. It’s VERY easy imho, they waive the fee the first couple months and you downgrade the account via SM after you get the bonus. Any business banker should be able to open this account for you in branch. I have opened a couple accounts now at different banks for my “biz” you just need to be able to talk through it a bit. More like make chit-chat about it while they fill out the paperwork so it’s not as intrusive as a credit card app imho. You can have a personal checking and a business checking account. As always cross you t’s and dot your i’s! https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chas...0-in-branch-bonus-no-direct-deposit-required/

We need an intervention! The Plane Princess has just declared he doesn’t want to fly anything other than Singapore Suites now.

I think @calypso726 needs to take in more relatives willing to buy her SPG points, or she can take in short term boarders who pay rent of 30k SPG points. You can even make a rental “business” out of it and go talk to a BRM about applying for a 100k UR CIP.

Per DoC, Barclay will refund your annual fee if you cancel within 60 days of its posting (maybe call Barclay to double check on that policy). So it seems to me that you can take it on your trip, use it if you need to for any PIN only situation, and then cancel (or try for a retention offer) when you get back (unless your trip to France is >60 days!). That's probably the easiest in your scenario. It is smart to have a Chip & PIN card for your trip. I canceled my Arrival Plus when they implemented the new redemption rules, that just made me mad.

I'm also a big fan of the Charles Schwab debit card for international travel. I love not having to worry about ATM fees.

Dom Perignon, caviar with chilled vodka, lobster salad, Lobster Thermidor and elderflower parfait! I’m stuffed and it’s time to go to bed. Night night from our awesomesauce SPG redemption on Singapore Suites Dischurner peeps!

I think your airplane suite is nicer than my last apartment (and maybe bigger too).

FYI: Don't hit minimum spends and then return things and not put the spend back on the card. You may get the points, but is it really the right thing to do long term?

This comment stems from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8k33eh/daily_discussion_thread_may_17_2018/dz5o9vz/

I don't think we have anybody doing this here, and while this Redditor feels ok with it...IMHO it's just not right. I get that we operate on the fringe of the rules, but not reaching the minimum spend and taking advantage of the card issuers system limitations to track returns on MSRs probably isn't an arena we want to operate in. If anybody disagrees, I'd love to hear that viewpoint though :) I can respect a different opinion stated respectfully with logic.

eeekkkk have fun!!! and send more pics!

ETA: kept scrolling and saw more pics. so amazing! so jealous!

Thanks! Will do on the next plane!

Wow amazing

I know right! That was my first thought even though I’d seen pictures.

OMG LOVE YOUR SHOES. And the suite thing of course ;) ...but those SHOES! Awesome!!

Thank you! I saw them on Amazon and while they were a little spendy they looked too cute to pass up and I decided to splurge. 5x on Amazon gift cards with Ink+ at Office Depot. Big mistake. They are also comfy and there are lots of other super cute designs. The brand is Hot Chocolate and the shoebox the come in is totes adorbs! Ok so s that saying still a thing? I don’t have kids so I’m usually a day late and dollar short on lingo trends. LOL

OMG, amazing! I have to go to Singapore for work this year and I'm pretty sure the company will NOT be getting me one of those suites.

Time to resign :rotfl2: This is totally one of the coolest things we’ve done.

What about the Club 33 handbag that @calypso726 ’s rocking?

OMG! Can’t believe you spotted that first! We’ve been super lucky to know someone who knows someone that got us reservations at Club 33 a few times. The first couple of times you had to be a member to buy the bag. Last time though we were allowed. I was so stoked! I love Dooney Disney bags. They are the only fancy/spendy bags I will buy

She’s all about that Dis bling.

And maybe I need your handbag expertise. Not something I even noticed.

That’s what I was going to say! What suite? I want that bag, lol!
