I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I'm very stressed out about going RIC to RSW through BWI on 11/26 (the flight from BWI to RSW on SW is at 8:20). I booked a Wednesday night flight because I used a lot of dd's vacation time up when we went to Norway. I so don't want to go at this point but my mom's counting on our visit. I also really wanted to get a puppy (things have been super lousy lately and I'm convinced a puppy will make things a little better) but I can't get one because of this dumb trip.
My daughter has a flight coming home from college that same day and we are considering booking her a back-up flight. At least we have the points to be able to do it and get her home. If she only realized what we were doing behind the scenes for her :crazy2:

For a noob who really only travels short cheapish flights help me understand this. So you pay for 2 flights or are you cancelling a backup flight at some point and being fully credited?
Most of my flights are points or miles flights, which are fully refundable with the main airlines. So I have a backup that I then get refunded of the first flight makes it out. I often do the cancellation as we're taking off or once we arrive. For example, I have SW and Delta booked for Thanksgiving return flights. First on SW on Sat night, our preferred option. Then on Delta Sunday (SW was too much that day, even with CP). You just have to make sure not to forget to cancel the second!

Nice. Keeping this in my back pocket, it's not something would have ever thought to do.

Do they count Canada as international? Canada, Mexico and some/all of the Caribbean aren't considered true international for some things/perks.
I was just using united and it appears to be correct that there is a charge for those destinations. Going to Europe does seem to include the bag.
It would be nice to some sort of standardization for these things but of course that won’t happen

Yeah, maybe you haven't been left stranded by AA the night before your wedding anniversary, lol

I also book extra flights when our plans seem fluid or uncertain. Next year, I have two returns from DL in June because we don't yet know whether Pride nite will be on Monday or Tuesday and we want to go see that this year. If I wait for the dates announcement, flight prices may have gone up so I just book extra. It only works if you have the extra points, of course

I am so frustrated with Alaska Airlines. I started collecting Alaska/Hawaiian cards because everyone seemed to find these points valuable, especially for booking partner airlines on international flights. But they have been a huge bust for me.

First, I attempted for weeks to book a flight to Ireland for my daughter and husband next summer and just kept getting the error "We're sorry, we aren't able to confirm space on these partner flights, try changing dates, cities, etc." It was an AA flight. I called and they were just like, "yeah, we don't have control over the partner awards, sorry". Tried different dates, flight times, etc. Nope. So I kept waiting and then just gave up and was able to scrape together some AA miles.

Then, I lost all access to my account during the transition to Atmos. Could not get through to them with wait times around 2-3 hours. Missed callbacks. Finally after FOUR HOURS on hold yesterday they were able to get me in. Great.

Was going to use these points for a trip to New York next month. AA flights. Same error. On every flight that day. I'm going to lose it. Of course, it doesn't tell you until you hit purchase if it is going to work. It isn't like you can play around with it and try different things. And it is recommending different days and cities. Uh, no. I need THIS day in THIS city!!!

Are partner flights EVER available through Alaska? Because I am starting to feel like they are not.

According to Google, phantom availability is an issue. I wish I had realized how big of an issue because now I have all these Atmos awards that I can't even use!

Ugh. Sorry for the rant. I just need to get it out and warn anyone else counting on Atmos points for partner airline bookings. There is no guarantee that what the site says is available is actually available!
Sorry you are having issues. I’ve had some good luck with Alaska. This year I booked my son a flight on AA to Spain, me on AA to LHR and have a flight next year on Condor.

I'm starting to get nervous as well, flying out on Monday from CLE->JFK->AMS->BCN for a cruise departing from Barcelona. Yeah it's a lot of flights, but we had a ton of Flying Blue miles so that's what we had to do for it to be "free" lol. Business/First for all flights. At least we are scheduled to arrive in Barcelona 2 days before the cruise so if we end up having to take a later flight at least we have a buffer. I've been watching all these flight statuses like a hawk!

Wow that totally stinks. I hope you and your SO were able to make the best of it.
I had to pay $800 for a flight on United the morning after my cancelled AA flight, which was the day of our anniversary. DH is pretty chill so we would have been fine, but it was our 10th wedding anniversary so I still didn't want to miss it. If I had booked the United flight on points as a backup long before, I would've have been out the $800.

quick reminder please, if app'ing for a biz and a personal chase(any brand) it's always personal first? (if wanted to do within a week?)

It's always the business first. Business cards have to be 30 days between apps and personal cards can be 2 in 30 days.
