I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

That wasn't the question. The question was about getting approved for Biz when you're at 5/24, not whether an existing Biz counts toward 5/24 for some subsequent approval.

Biz does not count towards 5/24, but if you're at 5/24 you can't get a Biz.

This is also subjective. Many people can't get a 6th or 7th card. Some people can. Some may get an offer.

It's still a very good idea to try to stay under 5/24 with personal app's.

Thanks I was holding off applying until Mid April to be safe for the AMEX and then at 91 days applying for the Chase card.

It is ok if they come a little later I just didn’t want them to come too early.

Do you already know about the convoluted Marriott rules and you're going to not meet the Amex SUB until after getting Chase? Usually you can't get Amex and Chase Marriott within 2 years, but since the Amex SUBs are 6 months now I guess this will work.

Our Amex FNC come about 6 weeks after the AF, give or take a few days.

Hilton Surpass quarterly credit question - does anyone recall using or hearing of someone using the card at a restaurant or cafe in a Hilton hotel (but not staying at the hotel) and getting the credit on your Surpass account?

I thought I fairly recently read somewhere that this happened but can't find it right now. I'm close to dozens of Hiltons and will be very close to one tomorrow and thought I'd try the cafe in that hotel that sells Starbucks using my card as a test. If it's an almost sure thing, I'd also buy a gift card in addition to a drink and snack.

Edit: I thought I had used this quarter's credit on my last trip but surprise! My card was not applied to my account when presented at check in. I booked with points and apparently had another card (not a Hilton card) as a default on my honor's account.

There's a thread on r/hilton of places that it works. Starbucks inside but not attached have worked. It seems as long as the restaurant is inside and not attached and not run by someone else it should work.

Eta some have also gone in and bought snacks etc from the little shop. It's all dependent on who runs it since you can't charge it back to a room.

Thanks so much! I'll probably do it tomorrow. The cafe is definitely inside. It's also a morning only operation, Saturdays 7 to 12 noon.

The Chase FNC usually hits on your anniversary of account opening. My account was opened on 6/17/18 and that's when the FNC arrives. Annual Fee posts 7/1.

The Amex FNC hits much later. For instance my application was August 18, 2018. Now, my annual fee hits September 10 (this past year 2024) and the FNC arrived Nov 8. This has been consistent since Marriott took over SPG. Previous to 2018 the free night arrived on account anniversary or thereabouts but nowhere near 2 months later as it does now.

I've had a high of 5 Bonvoy cards since 2001 and now have 4 at present. Sometimes sorry I let 1 go, like this year when I've used all but 1 of my FNC's. Got 3 more coming but I would like them right now.
Thanks for the DP's

This sounds like this will be perfect for my situation.
If I applied today (3/21/25) for the AMEX, I would receive my certificate on 6/11/26 (based on 82 days 8/18/24 - 11/8/24)
I can then apply for the chase card 91 days after on 6/20/25.
This would mean my chase cert would be available on 6/20/25.
This would then give me two certs by 6/20 every year to book 2 nights during Spring Break time period.

Yes thanks for asking.

I was originally thinking just Chase as I'm wanting to eventually product change to Ritz when I found that it is possible to double dip now since amex extended the time period for the minimum spend.

If it doesn't work tomorrow there's a report of it working in Old Town (Alexandria, Va). I'll be over there Sunday morning!

Are you doing the Amex biz and a Chase personal? Not sure you can do an Amex personal and a Chase personal after 91 days.

The rules have always confused me. So I defer to any experts!

But I will probably never close any of my cards unless they become useless to me. That makes it a moot point as far as I am concerned.

Check your flights. I dont know if people are traveling less due to airline events or what. But I have a DELTA flight next month and our flights went down. This is almost unheard of for Delta!
pro tip I use google flights after i book, and then you usually get an email when the price goes down (you can select the same flights )
I did end up booking recently to dca vs bwi because southwest wants 200$ more then I'm used to paying I was going to rent a car anyway so now ill save my 300$ flight difference.

Amazing tip! I have several other flights I’m going to in and set alerts on.

Usually you can't, and you can't do Amez biz with Chase personal either. The rule is not eligible if approved with 90 days or welcome bonus within 24 months. But the Amex SUBs are 6 months right now, which presents an unique opportunity. Apply for Amex, don't meet the SUB, then apply for Chase at day 91.

I guess it's a case they didn't consider when writing up the convoluted rules lol.

For those that previously helped me with Singapore questions, I have one more! Getting ready to book our hotel with points. Would you go with Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay, or Holiday Inn Express Orchard Road? The shopping aspect is neither here nor there for us. We're more interested in location to public transit, and ease of getting around to places like Garden by the Bay, the airport, Chinatown, Little India, the zoo, etc. They are both rated the same on Google, reviews look good on both, I think it just depends on location preference. Will we like being in Orchard Road area or Clarke Quay area better? Is one harder to get to MRT than the other? I can't determine the answer and I need input! lol. Thanks in advance.
It’s a matter of personal preference. Clark Quay, at least to me, is very touristy, bustling with people day and night, full of restaurants that are tourist traps. You can easily get a river boat for a night cruise in the Clark Quay area. Orchard Road is chock full of stores and malls to suit every kind of shopper. You wouldn’t want to walk from Orchard Road to MB, might be a bit of a hike from Clark Quay. The MRT in Singapore is amazing, so transit from either would be very easy. For me it would come down to the quality of the hotel and rooms, all else being equal. I’d be concerned about noise at night in Clark Quay, so if it were me (super light sleeper), I’d comb through reviews and watch for the level of sound-proofing at the HICQ. Orchard Road, I’d think, would be quiet at night once the stores close. Of course if noise doesn’t bother you it’s a non-issue!

Thanks for the perspective! I’ll definitely look over the reviews about noise in the CQ location, as we are kind of light sleepers. Good point I did not think of!

I tried this last Saturday. There's a Starbucks inside a DoubleTree so I figured it would work. However, it wouldn't work for gift cards because they didn't have any--as the person working there explained, they're not an actual Starbucks franchise, they are operated by the hotel, and they don't sell gift cards. It's possible YMMV but I suspect that any Starbucks that would work for the Hilton credit is not going to have gift cards--if anyone has contrary data, I would be happy to be wrong.

I thought about getting a Starbucks drink but decided to test what @afan mentioned and get a soda at the gift shop. I was pretty certain it would work since I had to pay for it at the check-in desk. And the charge shows up as "Hilton" something or other. But so far no credit (the charge posted Monday).

I have seen DP of people buying Starbucks GC. Probably those were Starbucks franchises and not operated by the hotel.

Do you see that particular location on the Starbucks store locator? Wonder if that would be one way to tell the difference.

There are dps of people being able to get gc at Starbucks.

Here's the reddit, which also has a link to a thread on flyertalk.
