Thought I'd write a little summary of the hotels that ds and I stayed at on our trip to Singapore and Japan.
In Singapore we had 2 rooms at the Conrad. I booked the base level room and we were both upgraded to executive rooms on the same floor as the lounge (love being on this floor). I paid $275.00 / night / room, which I think is an excellent price for the hotel. While it might not be the newest, most luxurious hotel in Singapore, I like the location, the rooms are spotlessly clean, beds very comfortable, the breakfast food is good, and the staff are all amazing, seriously over-the-top excellent service. I will stay here next year when I'm in Singapore on my way back from Japan. I got double points with the current HH promo and used my Aspire to pay, which adds nicely to my stash of HH points!
I've already commented on the Hyatt Centric Ginza. LOVE this hotel, LOVE Ginza, would definitely stay here again. Staff were all amazing, knowledgeable and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and options were plentiful. Beds are on the hard side, so if that's going to affect your sleep then something to consider (didn't bother me). I was gifted GoH status by a very generous member of this board -- never would've paid the cash price of $50.00 / per person. Having said that I stayed 1 night before heading home -- I went to City Bakery and paid $15 for 1 thick slice of toast, 1 egg, small salad and 2 thick pieces of bacon. Jam was an extra $0.25.
In Osaka we stayed at the Conrad. I booked the base king room (1 room cash and 1 points) and ds and I were both upgraded to deluxe rooms (not sure how they were different). I liked the hotel -- rooms were clean, the beds super comfy, breakfast was good (not a lot of western options -- I thought the breakfast at the Hyatt Centric was better), views were amazing and the location was.....not great, at least not IMHO. While the hotel sat atop a subway station, it wasn't walking distance to anything. Every time we wanted to go somewhere we had to take the subway. I don't mind taking the subway, but for some reason this really bothered me at this particular hotel. It was more than twice the cost of the Conrad Singapore and I didn't think it was worth it. Next time I'd probably stay at the WA Osaka, which appears to be walking distance to Osaka Station.
A few pics of the room -- notice there was no water closet in the bathroom. That's because it was down a hallway and around the corner (very odd layout). Also, see the tiny bathrobe -- I thought it was for a child, but apparently it was for adults -- length was well above my knees and the sleeves were at my elbows -- not what I'd call luxurious either. Welcome gift was a small bottle of sake, which drinkers might have liked. Turndown service was inconsistent -- the first night the room was turned down and nothing left, yet ds got 2 TWG tea bags and a sweet left on his pillow, same thing next night and the following night. On the third night I called and was told that they don't leave anything at turndown -- not sure who was leaving ds nice tea and sweets -- that will remain a mystery LOL. Executive lounge was okay -- the evening food was mediocre, I made it to afternoon tea once and found the food a bit better than mediocre. Never went to the lounge for breakfast because the FD told us at check-in that there weren't many western options for breakkie in the lounge and that's all that I can manage in the am. The staff at the FD was amazing. Some may love this hotel, but it wasn't for me (ds LOVED it, so it depends on what you value -- for me it's all about location).
