I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I'm kicking myself for 2 reasons. I could have snagged 3 FNC at the WA in Cabo last night. I forgot my BF has 2 FNC and I have one. He was asleep (was up early w/ flights and we don't live together). I figured we'd coordinate it this morning. Well the Sunday night is gone. UGH! I could have booked that w/ my FNC and then had him book his this morning. I also forgot, I have gold, but he only has silver. Does anyone think if we message WA they might honor my gold status, to get us the "free" breakfast? I did think we could maybe use one of his certs, one of mine, and ask to merge the reservations to get the status. But I wanted him to get his room booked. Plus I didn't want to have to harass him down the road when we want to use the other FNC I have, LOL.
Keep checking -- the room may pop back into inventory. The WA Cabo tends to release rooms for points closer to the check-in date. I'd grab the 2 that you have and wait for the 3rd to show up again. Can you book a night on the back end (the Wednesday instead of Sunday)?

I'm not sure if they'd honor breakfast -- I'd have them link the reservations in their systems so that you don't have to change rooms and get new keys mid-stay (and make sure that your nights are first) and hope for the best.

Hope that you get to go -- it's a gorgeous property. Not sure if you are aware they give a nice small bottle of tequila in a gorgeous bottle in your room (you can take the bottle home). Also they used to (not sure if they still do) deliver beer or some other kind of drink with taco chips & salsa at sunset. Easy walk into town where you can get cheap food and do some shopping for alcohol, mix and snacks.

So my BF snagged 2/17-19. I wish we could do 2/20, but it's hockey playoffs. I can't miss that, LOL. I'll keep stalking to see if I can get 2/16 and use my FNC and then link us. I'm super excited for the Clase Azul. We managed to bring back 5 bottles when we stayed at Moche ;) I am a Clase fan.

Is the "mini" bar beverages free and unlimited? I've read they have coke/water/juice. Asking because we're bringing our own drinks, and want to know what we need to pack, LOL. We managed to score a rental car for $34 for the 2 nights too! Since WA has free parking we figured why not! My BF is willing to drive and that saves us another $100+, LOL.

I have AA flights on hold in case we don't get on the Delta flight, LOL. I'm really hoping this all works off. Of course I'd love warmer, and longer, but it sounds like we should have fun either way!

Here's a wwyd question.... 2 night- basic holiday inn spend 59k ihg points or spend 29,789 ur + a fee?( anyone else seeing a fee included in points thru ur portal now? And would the $50 csp credit work on that $90 fee- or would I need to use $50 actual Oops for that?

I have a backup plan if I'm not successful getting another CSR -- I'm going to apply for the Cdn AmEx biz card. It has a huge MSR ($15,000) in 3 months, but with taxes, chemo for the doggie, groceries, gas and hydro I can make it. Not loving the huge AF of $799 but for 120,000 I can deal with it (I'm also going to try to pull higher offers). I really, really, really love URs for their flexibility so I hope I get another. Also realized that P2 (dd) can apply for another sapphire product this summer yay!

I'm also going to call for a retention offer on my AmEx personal plat -- I've gotten one every year except last year when I didn't call. Anyone know what the going offers are?

Dh didn't get AP super elite this year -- I'll sure miss his priority rewards (half the points for a biz class fare anywhere in the world). He'll still get priority rewards, but as a 75k they won't be good for biz class fares. Plus I'll have to pay cancellation fees (super elites don't). He missed qualification by $2k spend -- his oversight (if he had asked me I would've had him make a refundable hotel ressie :headache:). I'll sure miss his status.

Just have to share a cringe moment with friends who will understand lol. The other day I met my sister for lunch, her treat. When the check came she pulled out her debit card and joked "I hope it goes through, I just used it to pay for my $3000 hearing aids". I could have cried, there was an MSR right there - she could have booked an international business class flight with the rewards from that one purchase. But, she is hardcore Dave Ramsey and I'm sure assumes that DH and I are in a mountain of debt. Sigh...

That's funny, my sister is the same. Every time we go out to eat or for drinks, I'll use my card to pay and then have her Venmo me her portion, so I can reap the rewards. Her and my BIL only use debit cards as well, and they are part of a Dave Ramsey debt pay down plan. I think of all the years of missed opportunities... And then they hassle us and say "we don't have money like you guys to travel", even after knowing we use points on every single trip and that's the only way it's possible for us to travel this much. SIGH.

I've realized that some people don't "get it", nor do they WANT to get it. They are happy in ignorance. We let them be, lol.

I just clicked on an article where someone asks Dave Ramsey, what's wrong with having a cc if you pay it off monthly. And his simple answer is that, in theory, it's good. But so few people have the discipline to do it. Which is actually why people like us get to benefit from it. If most people paid their balances monthly, we wouldn't see these SUBs and offers to entice us to get CCs.

I too cringe when my older kids make a big payment and don't have an MSR they are working towards. But I think financial stability is more important. So next time we see people missing out on cc opportunities, remember, they are creating opportunities for us!

IHG points are worth .005, while UR are worth, to me, .015, so you'd be spending way more by using URs. I assume the $90 fee applies either way? If the portal is asking you to pay the $90 fee upfront, I THINK your $50 CSP credit would work. You have to actually use the CSP and be logged into your CSP acct to get the credit, as I understand it. But if they are just notifying you of a $90 fee at the property, then no, the CSP credit won't apply.

AFAIK the drinks are included but not unlimited. They do restock it daily, plus will bring 2 coronas (or a non-alcoholic beverage) in the afternoon along with the chips, salsa, and guacamole. They also stock bottled water. The hotel was at capacity last week, so I wouldn't count on getting another night but I'd keep checking. As said above, they do tend to drop rooms at the last minute.

I was able to freeze chex and one bureau, the other 2 couldn't be verified so I have to sort that out. I think those 2 were the ones that actually had relevant questions. Probably hard when you've lived at the same address since 1976.

Once I explained why and that she can still use her cards she was fine with it. But I had to bring it all up and she still doesn't really seem to understand that being scammed is an issue nor is someone from DHSH coming to talk about it. She still hasn't explained it all and I realized I should have pushed more with what I found out last year.

Did find out banks are required to report any suspected or actual fraud towards people over 60, which is good.

I didn't bring up the POA yet, but looking at the forms for discover may just need her acct numbers and not anything else. Just have to decide how open I want to be given how little she's told me about what happened. I don't have any siblings so this is also all on me which is good/bad.
Fortunately my mom hasn't fallen for any major scams but last week I found out she had a recurring fraudulent charge for a whole year. She never checks her CC statements, just put everything on autopay when my dad passed away.
It started with a $1 charge on her Discover card last February, then $19 the following 2 months, then $29 the rest of the year. Discover flagged a $29 charge last month as fraudulent and closed her card, issued a new one. She got the new one and wanted me to set up a new login. I started looking around and found all the charges. She called Discover and they said they will credit her all the charges. I told her just close the card after that. The only other cards she has are CFF & CFU and I can check those every month to make sure she's not getting charged for stuff she didn't buy.
DW denied for a CIC. She's at 4/24 and has 3 biz cards open IHG, SW, and CIP. All three with zero balance. I can close one in April so I'll do that and then try again.
Try charging on them. Like Amex, I think Chase may be starting to look for actual use. DH recently got approved for a new CIC and up until a week before the application he was carrying a balance on one of his biz cards at 0%.

My sister isn't Dave Ramsey but she and her husband are debit card diehards. Her husband can't deal with paying a large bill every month so he'd rather have daily debits so he doesn't see the money all leave at once. My sister quite frankly doesn't want to deal with any of the bills so she just lets him make the rules (my dad who taught us financial independence is probably rolling in his grave on that.)

DW recently opened up a US Bank Silver business checking account to get the bonus. I have moved over the required $5k but also they want 5 transactions. One of the options is debit card transactions. Do I have to run her debit card as a debit with the PIN or can I do it online without the PIN basically as a credit card transaction? So far I've done two online transactions and two through Walmart Pay and haven't been asked for a PIN. I just want to make sure I do the requirement for the bonus.

thanks...that's kind of how I was leaning....

I didn't know about the transactions. I did this a few months ago and only needed to have the $5K in there. Was going to do it again for DH so let us know how it turns out

My position at the University where I work is grant-funded and the future seems uncertain with everything going on. So we've decided to scale back our trips this year and refocus CC SUB earnings on cash back rather than points. Thinking of having DH sign up for a USB Triple Cash, I did it last year. But is there something better to go for first that I'm not thinking about?

My husband is kind of like this, he hates seeing huge bills - I don't get it but he's very, very OCD about a lot of things. Anyway, he puts everything on a card but logs in every few days and pays it off. We have separate cards so I let him do what works for him! He's also wayyyy more cautious in opening new cards than I am, he's obsessed with his credit score. Sigh, but at least he's not using debit!

I saw a clip of Ramsey saying that most people, even those who pay off their balance every month, are much more likely to spend more than those who use a debit card. I don't know how true that is, but I know everything I buy I would purchase anyway, no matter the payment method. Now, I may be more strategic on which card I use for what to make the most of offers, points, etc., I always have a plan.

I think Ramsey is probably right about most people. I think the folks on this thread are not in the norm re: American consumer behavior/CC spending. So it's good that advice like that gets floated because it can help a lot of people who aren't so careful. Those of us careful churners can just keep churning away, lol.

I can certainly sympathize with you and hope for the best. Everywhere I look in real life there are good people with uncertain futures.

Is there a way to see what promos were available from cards at a certain time?

I got the Alaska Airlines card in December and I KNOW I did it because there was an elevated offer. However, I was credited the 60,000 miles. I am not sure how to prove that it was an elevated offer and I want to double check the exact offer before I call. I am searching on DoC but not really finding what I am looking for. Kicking myself for not taking a screenshot.

Othwerwise... anyone have luck getting BoA to match a new offer? Ugh. I am pretty sure this is no.

No clue. The wording is somewhat vague. I have physically taken it to the store and run it as debit, done 3 times so far. I'm not sure there is even a way to know that you have fulfilled the requirements.

"Qualifying transactions include debit card purchases, ACH credits, Wire Transfer credits and debits, Zelle credits and debits, U.S. Bank Mobile Check Deposit or Bill Pay. Other transactions such as (but not limited to) other Person to Person payments, transfers to credit card or transfers between U.S. Bank accounts are not eligible."
