DP on an expiring IHG Flex FNC ($99 AF card): We have a certificate expiring in about 4 weeks, with no plans to use it. I have tried twice to have it extended. All we would need is a 30 day extension, but they would not budge at all. So I asked for points instead, to which they offered 30K. I then asked for 40K, since that's what the cert is worth, but again, would not budge. So that's my DP... was able to get 30K pts for an expiring FNC. I'll be able to use those 30K points for the hotel we need in September... the hotel is 33K so it'll almost cover it, so I'm counting it as a win.

Hello everyone! We are back from our trip to South Africa.
We had an amazing time, trip of a lifetime. One big hiccup is that my cell phone was stolen from the sauna area at the Hyatt Regency towards the beginning of our trip, which was a little painful but I was able to get Verizon to port my number over to DH's phone which was helpful. Thankfully I added additional electronics insurance to our travel insurance, hoping for an easy claim.

We flew Qatar QSuites for DFW to DOH and economy from DOH to CPT, AMAZING experience. The service was fantastic on both flights. For the return we flew business class on Egyptair, service was not great, on the flight from Cairo to D.C. the flight attendants were actually rude to our girls. We slept for the majority of the time on of both flights, so it sucks to have a bad experience when you sleep for 90% of the flight, but being able to lie flat was worth it.

The people in South Africa were super nice, we enjoyed our time there. It is a place that I could retire, wine country is beautiful, the towns along the Golden Route are charming. Our safari experience was amazing, we chose a small safari lodge just outside Kruger with its own private reserve and everything was perfect. We saw the Big 5 on our first game drive, within the first 90 minutes. Our flights home included a 20 hour day time layover in Cairo, we booked a private tour which was good. I would like to go back to Egypt but I don't know if it will be at the top of my list.

I saved it all on my instagram highlights. https://www.instagram.com/jomurray

AA experts - can someone make sure I’m thinking of this correctly? I currently have a Citi AAdvantage Platinum select card (personal), and a Citi AAdvantage Biz card. My DH has a Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Red (personal) card. My personal card was charged the AF, which I don’t really want to pay the $99 to keep. I have until 7/19 to cancel and have the AF refunded, or I could PC to a Mile Up acct (no AF) and get a prorated refund (if I cancel after 30 days they won’t prorate a refund, only prorate for a PC). There isn’t a retention offer on my account. I have a flight booked on my AA account next week with four of us on the same itinerary, and we’ll have 2 bags to check. The personal card allows for the first checked bag free for those on the same itinerary, up to 4 people. I’m thinking I can pay the AF now, then after our flight I could call and PC to the free card and receive the prorated refund. For the return flight on 7/22, three tickets are booked on my account, and one under DH’s. I can check one bag and get mine free due to my Biz card, and my DH can check one bag and get his free due to his Aviator. Am I thinking of all of this correctly? Am I right that their system is smart enough to know you’re an account holder and what/how many bags you get free, and it’s done automatically? I’m probably making this all way to complicated, but I really hate to pay bag fees 😊 Thanks for any input!

Hi everyone. We're back from our 3 week European vacation. I was hoping to pop in to write a quick summary for anyone who was anticipating it, but much to my surprise, and absolute shock and horror, my 16 year old cat passed away on the morning that we flew home (this past Monday). She is our second cat to pass away in less than 45 days with our first being our orange tabby boy that we had to euthanize due to stomach cancer just days before our trip. I am without words, and I am spinning in grief. I'll be back later to write a summary, but for now I wanted to thank you all again for helping me with our trip.

I'm so sorry!! That is a huge fear of mine! We just put down our dog and now I'm so freaked out that the other one will die too! I'm so sorry that you are going through that. I'm sure your kitties lived a good life with you but saying goodbye is always so hard!

Unfortunately we didn't get to say goodbye. We got a text when we landed in Houston that she was gone. I am devastated.

I’m so sorry. My older dog is 17 1/2 so I can’t go anywhere unless she goes with me. Having older pets is really tough.

Oh No I’m so sorry for your loss, we just lost our 15 year old pup and are heartbroken…can’t imagine losing two that close together

I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is heartbreaking. 💔

I think someone else posted this, but it is worth repeating. I had a 50% off AmEx offer on Amazon if I paid with MRs. I used 1 MR ($.01) to buy $150 worth of gift cards for $75. You can't use it for Amazon gift cards, but it appeared to work with any other gift cards (Southwest, Aerie, Ulta, Bath & Body). I was able to buy 5 gift cards as Christmas gifts and a Starbucks gc for me. Terms say it works on anything sold by Amazon (gift cards technically don't say "Amazon" but it worked anyway). I saw on Reddit that some people had other offers that were not as good. There was speculation there that those who had not used their AmEx much at Amazon (like me) received the 50% offer.

Happy Independence Day to those in the US!

Well I just applied for the CIP in the Chase app (where I could see the 120K points) and it's a generic "in review."

I'll try not to be too sad.

EDIT: Just happened to check my app and lo and behold it's in my card list! Woo hoo!

Heading to San Diego next week. Part of our stay is at a Coronado Island Marriott resort which of course charges a resort fee. Received an email that states there is a $15 food and beverage credit for Marriott elites but doesn't say which level elites qualify. Does anyone know which level elites qualify and what the credit covers? I assume food in the restaurant but poolside or room service as well? 31726180-CC96-4D49-9786-8BF3C406B964.jpeg

Just got my first denial from Chase for CIC card. I have a CIC (opened 9/23) and a CIU (opened 1/2023). I closed a CIC 3 days ago (open for over 2 years). I also just closed an IHG business card.

So two Chase business cards and I'm 2/24. I've only opened one card this year, and it was a US Bank card back in April. Where did I go wrong here? Should I have applied for a CIC instead (to replace the one that I closed)? Did I apply too soon?

Any recon if it's a flat denial?

I rarely make a big purchase and am able to meet a big spend, but I'm about to purchase $3500 worth of furniture. Obviously need a SUB!

I just tried the preapproval tool for Capital One...thinking the Venture Rewards card might be a decent option. It said I'm preapproved for the Rewards One card with no eligibility for a bonus???

I have excellent credit, so not sure what's up with that. I'm guessing now that they have my name/ssn there's no reason to fill out an application. Unless DPs say otherwise?

Do you find this somewhere on amazon or on Amex like the other offers?

Do try recon. I got denied for a CIU last July and then got it approved via recon.

What were the reasons for the denial ?
Do you have other Chase cards, if so how much credit have they extended on both business and personal…usually Chase likes to keep it under 50% of household income or $70,000 ish… the 3 days may not have been enough time but 🤷🏼‍♀️

FWIW I've been "preapproved" several times, filled out the applications, and then denied for the cards I wanted and offered different cards with no bonus instead or a lousy bonus. Cap One has their own criteria, and it's kind of a mystery. I have excellent credit too, but they don't want to give me a decent card. Maybe you'll have better luck, but it's frustrating to waste the hard pulls.
