Yes they have direct flights but it's too long for me to sit on a plane. I definitely want the long layover to stretch, relax and sleep in a hotel prior to flying to Japan. The days of being a spring chicken is long gone! Lol!

Delta’s made a change to their website and they now redirect gift card purchases to CashStar, there’s no longer a way to buy gift cards to lock in the discount from these Delta Amex Offers. Unless someone here has found a new link, please share!
Do you know how recently that change was made (on the Delta GC thing)? I did find this Frequent Miler article that it would work on a desktop through a specific link, but the article is from October 2021.

AU questions... my older son (now 18) is still an AU on my Freedom card. We haven't gotten around to applying him for the Discover yet...

1- If he just dropped out of school do you think they'd still approve him for the Discover? He is employed.

2- If he is unable to get his own card, but I also need to make my younger son (almost 16) an AU on a card, how do you recommend I handle it? I need to keep the charges split up between the two boys. I also have a CSR, multiple CICs, and am Amex BBP. Oh and a Venture X.
For the 18 year old, both CapOne and Discover offer a secured card version for those starting out building their credit, so the barriers for approval should be lower for those cards. Chase has a Student Freedom card but the application says they'll verify the student's enrollment status, so I don't think that one will work.

You could add the 18 yr old as an AU on your Amex BBP - he'll get a different card number than yours so it will be easy to see his transactions, both online and on the statements. The 16 yr old is too young to be an AU on Amex biz cards. But you can add either or both of them as AUs on the Venture X - each card will have a separate unique card number. I haven't actually put any purchase on DD's AU Venture X card so I don't know how it will show up on the statement.

The advantage to the 18 yr old being an AU on your BBP is he'll get his own set of Amex offers. I manage my DD's Amex AU cards and online account, and add offers to her cards to double dip on especially attractive offers. The disadvantage is that the Amex biz card won't help build his own credit score since it's not a personal card. Since the Venture X has been out about one year, adding him on as AU won't really help his credit score either since that's not a long time (but he'll be able to go to Priority Pass lounges with two guests for all those times he'll be going into a Priority Pass lounges lol). I joke, but that's part of the reason I got DD an AU Venture X card!

There are higher SUBs out there. If the goal is URs, do you qualify for a Sapphire (CSP and/or CSR)? Would you do a business card (CIU or CIC)?

Applying for a card now wouldn't affect getting another card in 2024, unless this card puts you at 5/24. Usual rule of thumb for Chase is 3 months in between cards.

I'm looking for a higher Grocery spend, there is the Amex Blue at 6% hmmm. Yes, I can do business. We have Costco business cc.

This is recent July 2022. There is only one offer you can use specifically on Delta gift cards via AMEX offer:

Delta. com Amex Offer: Get 6,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $300 or more online. This offer targeted specifically for gift card purchases. Follow the link below to learn more AND there's a lot more going on!
Expires 11/27/22. Frequent Miler

In Cleveland for five nights. Only good thing I can say is I'm staying at the Ritz-Carlton. Get home Friday and DD is home for Fall Break. Then my sister and I leave first thing Sunday for Michigan. Travel and grad school is wearing me out.
I’m about an hour from Cleveland and will say the theater district there is amazing! We have season tickets so go often. If you have time to kill and are interested in anything playing now, it’s a great way to spend a couple hours. If you like Indian food, a new, upscale place just opened this year called Amba. How’s the Ritz? Thinking of using the FHR credit there.

Thanks! Of course, I just read the fine print and saw that’s this offer is only valid on flights to the NYC area anyway. 🤦‍♀️

P.S. good to see you over here! 😀

Does anyone have any cards issued by FNB Omaha? I am wondering how they are for buying gift cards, for an MSR, either directly from a merchant, or say through Sams or Target.

Hamilton is playing here in Baltimore. I would love to see it but our “theatre” district is less than amazing.

If you maxed out the CFF grocery spend at $12k, you'd get a total of 80k URs. The CIU/CIC SUBs are 75k URs for $7500 spend. Let's say you got the CIU for simplicity, that gives 1.5x everything. You'd end up with 86,250 URs. More URs, less spend. :) But the con is you'd have to do the spend in 3 months instead of the grocery spend where you have a year. So just depends on what works for you.

There might be an AU bonus on the BBP. I have $50 for $1000 spend in 6 months.

For Chase AUs, they get a different number and you can toggle between which account transactions you want to look at. It's also separated on the statement.

We actually have an office in Playhouse Square. Unfortunately I have evening events Tuesday through Thursday and tonight I'm staying in to get some school work done.

It's a very nice hotel. It was updated pre-COVID and it's very contemporary (a bit sterile for my taste). Gym was nice, but no wipes or towels. The 76ers are here so I've seen a few basketball players--my son is jealous! I've stayed at a handful of Ritz's (Naples, Chicago, Atlanta, Tysons, and Cancun) and this is my least favorite, but it's still a Ritz-Carlton:)

For Discover they are more lenient with income if he is a student. The minimum income needed for a regular Discover card is 10k annually. If you apply as a student they consider less. If you regularly deposit money into his bank account for spending money then you can consider that as part of his income, otherwise because of his age, you can't include other household income to augment his employment. They do have a pre-approval checker on their site so you could see if his info is enough for an unsecured card. If not, my understanding is their secured card is a good product with automatic reviews for product changing to the unsecured card which keeps the same credit history. The secured cards earn all the same rewards as the unsecured including the double cash back in the first year. I'd still try for the Discover for him.

Now you could add one or both to the Venture X for the extra benefits but how long term do you plan to keep that card? If you want an arrangement for a good while then probably want to add on to at least one keeper card. (No crime in adding them to more than one card.) Except the CSR, all AUs are charged $75 AF each so I wouldn't add them to that. Adding them to the Venture X for free gets the same benefits.

I don't see a reason not to add your younger son to the Freedom as well to jump start credit history, but give him a CIC employee/au card for actual charging so you can separate out his balance more easily. (AmEx min age for an employee card is 18 so you can't add the younger to the BBP, plus I find Visa more widely accepted so he should only need to charge on one card) CIC earns 2x on gas and restaurants if that's a consideration in what he'll be charging. With the biz cards the employee cards are broken down separately on the statement to make it easy to see who charged what and their balance each month.

AmEx Member Week offers are loaded to the cards. Have to add by 10/14 but have longer expiration dates.

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-membership-week-2022-10-10-10-14/

I see all the AmEx offers now and not staggered throughout the week as was reported.
The Dell one might be useful for those who need video games or Xbox Live for xmas presents, etc. I've had my eye on a Switch game actually for weeks, and I'll probably get that and add another to give as a gift, for $50 back you're basically getting one free!
