It's time for a new card and I need some input. I need as many UR or Hyatt points as I can get before August, preferably Hyatt. In the past 14 months I have opened:
CFF
Bonvoy
SW Bus
CSR
CSP
Hilton Bus
I can't meet the MSR for a CIP. So I am thinking I should apply for the CIB now for 75K and then in 3 months get the Hyatt card. Or is there a better option I am not thinking of?
So you are at 4/14 and hopefully don't have any other personal cards that you have opened within the 10 months preceding those 14 months worth of cards you mentioned.
If you are 5/24 or over you will be auto denied for Chase cards.
By CIB, if you mean the new Chase In Business Premier when it launches, I would advise against it since the UR points will not be transferrable to hotels or airlines, nor can they be combined with your other Chase UR points.
If you are wavering between a CIC and CIU, then I'd advise the CIC. With the CIC 5x bonus category at Office Supply stores, it is easy to leverage gift card purchases and amp up your earning. Use the merchant gift cards to make online purchases after clicking through the Chase UR shopping portal and stack the UR earnings.
After 3 months, then go apply for the CIU if you can make the MSR and get an additional 75k for no AF rather than burn a 5/24 spot if indeed you are under 5/24.
The reason I'd advise a CIC and then the CIU over the Hyatt business card is because they have no AF and for the same MSR spend you can earn more points leveraging gift cards at office supply stores with the CIC and then 1.5X with the CIU.
I think the current Hyatt personal card offer is kinda meh at this time and not worth it for a ramp up of lots of Hyatt points. I do think it is a great keeper card. After years of being at LOL/24, I refrained from picking up personal cards for the sole purpose of adding a Hyatt personal card to my portfolio.
Adding this for anyone contemplating the Hyatt business card. I think the Hyatt business card is valuable under certain specific scenarios which are admittedly limited. In my case, I picked one up because it was going to work for a unique situation I find myself in this year. I hit globalist in January of 2021 with a mattress run during the bonus journeys promo. So, I get to enjoy the Globalist benefits through February 2023. Of course I wanted to maximize enjoying the globalist elite benefits, so I have a lot of Hyatt stays booked this year all on points and free night certs in New Orleans, Park Hyatt NYC, Grand Hyatt Kauai, Alila Napa Valley, Miraval Berkshires, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress etc. I've also decided to visit Dubai before we check into the Al Maha but don't know if I'm going to book Hyatt or burn some Hilton FN certs for that stay yet.
The business card gets 5 elite nights for every $10k in spend vs the personal card's 2 nights for every $5k. Because I picked the card up at launch I will get an additional 5 elite nights credit. Chase messed up on their T&Cs and said that the business card would get 5 elite night credits. They realized their mistake and changed it but are honoring the T&Cs for those who applied early on. I also intend to maximize the personal card's benefit of spend $15k for the FN certificate as well.
Between the number of Hyatt stays I have booked this year and the personal card's 5 elite nights, I actually have a decent shot at spending my way to Globalist. We will see how it goes.
