I love credit cards so much! v4.0 - 2021 (see first page for add'l details)

I think it's pretty common to use up the calendar based credits before canceling. It's not a known claw back risk.

Did you take a retention offer on the first renewal? If so, you'll likely need to wait 13 months for another one. Hopefully you can get 55-60k for $4000 spend on the plat. There's also a 40k for $3000 spend offer. On the plat biz, a credit for the AF seems pretty common (no spend requirement).
I’ll add my DP. Platinum card retention offer 40k/3k spend. Last year I got 60k (maybe 50k can’t remember) for no spend. This is my 2nd retention offer. AF just posted today. Since I’m still at the $550 AF I’ll keep it another year, but this will more than likely be the last time I renew.

Ugh, I'm trying to help my brother and his wife get a SW CP and I advised them to apply earlier in November, hoping their statement would close in a way that I could use their link before the 100,000 offer goes away and get them the 20,000 points towards CP. I don't think that part is going to work.
And now I think their statement dates are pretty crappy. They have a payment due date of Dec 27. So guessing a statement close likely of Nov 30? That would mean next statement closes Dec 30. So they can't put major spend on the card until AFTER December 30, right?
He is asking if they should try to move the payment due date. But didn't that backfire on Haley R? I don't remember all the details, but am nervous to advise them to do this. And if they are able to move the due date, what should they move it to?
Any suggestions?

Also quoting myself to add that this retention chat is coming up on 8 hours. I’m not exaggerating. I started the chat at noon on my lunch break, and its taken 8 hours of back and forth to finalize the offer. Mostly due to their extremely long response times. I thought I was going to have to try again tomorrow, but apparently they are still working this late.

Has anyone heard if Hyatt is going to lower the requirements for Globalist again for 2022? I sure hope so because I'm really enjoying Globalist status!

I would love that! But realistically, the most I'm hoping for are some double elite night promotions.

My Hyatt card will be 24 months next year. One strategy I'm thinking about is to cancel it and apply again. That will get me 5 elite nights with the new card in addition to the 5 that I get at the beginning of the year with the current card. I might apply for the biz version to get the 5 elite nights with 10k spend (will count towards the SUB too). I have a bunch of award stays planned next year, so maybe I can get to 60. If some stays qualified for double nights it would really help!

I am having a hard time finding a decent premium economy or business points rate for our return flight from Europe next August. There is a very good economy rate on Lufthansa through United. Thinking about going ahead and booking the economy tix and trying to upgrade later. Anybody have experience doing this?

ETA: or maybe even booking a third ticket at this great rate since that would give us more room and ensure no one sits next to us in economy. Thoughts?

There are some great economy rates right now, and good refundability, potentially. United has that offer today for $100 off, as well. I've not upgraded, so no advice. But I do like your suggestion about purchasing an additional seat. With the flexibility right now, you may also be able to cancel that extra seat prior to the flight if you get the impression the flight will have many open seats.

Virgin seems to have good biz class redemptions. Also, Flying Blue (AirFrance and KLM) have transfer bonus right now from Amex MRs.

If his statement is the 27th, that may mean the closing date is the 2nd. Not sure how accurate this article is, but it’s the only thing I’ve found.

I know I have a Jan. 3rd statement date and not 100% sure about my close date for purposes of referral, but I’ll just wait until it closes and if the offer is still available, I’ll refer P2, but won’t if it’s not.

My SW card has a payment due date of the 28th of the month, and my statement close date is the 3rd. That matches up with the article @mhautz provided.

What end date are you seeing? I assumed since it's a new card you could apply whenever. I was going to look at the Venture X after I finished the MSR on my SkyMiles Platinum.
Sorry I can’t find or remember where I saw the end date of Dec 10, but regardless I’m applying in the next few days. I also have my MSR for my SW priority to meet but I have some large spends due in January so should be Ok. If approved, I’ll have DH bring the card to Germany when he comes over Christmas. My only other Cap one card was the biz opened in Jan 2020 when they offered a huge bonus for a $50,000 spend over 6 months. That deal earned me over 300,000 Cap One Miles!

The charge needs to come through before 12/31 and be from Carnival reservations. Is the Carnival one $1500? I thought only RCCL had one that high.

ETA: I see there's a $1500 one for Carnival. So taxes definitely work, I think prepaid gratuities work too. I'm not sure about insurance. If memory serves, excursions and buying OBC don't work with Carnival because the charge comes through the Fun Shop.
I was able to prepay gratuities and have it count with RCCL to get to the $1500 I needed.

Thanks!
Hopefully this is the case with his card. I’m telling him, for now, to sit tight and wait the few days until it actually does close. Then he’ll know for sure.

Follow-up question: How long after a statement closes does it show in your account?

Now I’m curious - @mhautz posted a really interesting article about statement close and payment due dates for Chase. It said the following:

“If you see that your payment due date is the 1st of the month then your statement will always close on the 4th of the month beforehand. The same formula works through the 25th of the month, just add 3 days to the month beforehand.”

“Payment due dates on the 26-28th get a bit trickier. If you have the 26th then your statement will close on the 1st of that month. If you have the 27th then your statement will close on the 2nd of that month. If you have the 28th then your statement will close on the 3rd of that month. There are no payment due dates from the 29-31st.”

Anyone care to chime in with whether this lines up with their cards? As it does for @platamama.

The RCCL one is different - even excursions and drinks/dining packages count towards hitting the spend requirement. The Carnival offer is more difficult to hit because many of the 'extras' get billed under a different department and don't trigger the offer.

I was approved for SW Biz card 11/5, first statement closed 11/21, due 12/18.

UGH.....I'm really trying to debate what to do for Spring Break. My kids really want another Disney experience. And the DD is a junior this year. 2023 will be Ireland in March, so I don't think I'm going to follow it up w/ FL in April, LOL. My issue is, airfare is still crazy insane unless I want to fly at 11pm or 6am. Even Spirit. I can always try and non-rev to save money on my ticket, but the kids will need tickets either way.

I'm thinking I could do something else probably cheaper. But then the question become when do we do Disney. My child (said 16yo DD) was DYING at Disney Springs last March when we stopped by, LOL. I don't think she'd do Disney in summer well at all, LOL. And that whole, me being a teacher thing, kinda limits going any other time of year outside of $$$$ holiday break times.

I mean I guess the other option would be to pull them from school and go during my Feb break this year.....But I was hoping to get away w/ the BF then. UGH.....

What about a cruise?

I have not had a new chase card since April and it was CIU, before that it was CSP in June 2020. I want to try for CP. I haven’t had a Sw card since early summer ( I canceled after my AF posted) and it’s been well over 24 months since my last bonus. I would like to go for one personal and one business. Wasn’t sure if things have changed a lot with spacing apps. Is it best to do the personal first and how long between? Is it still 3 months?

Honestly it might be your last Disney trip so personally I'd go for it. I'm not sure what crazy insane prices are, but I might just suck it up and do the red eye.
