If I buy an airline ticket for an immediate family member to Israel using my CSR, is she covered for the travel insurance if I'm not also on the trip? If I instead use UR, is she also covered?
Would she be able to use my card ( in my name) on the trip? I know in the States I use cards with my P2's name on the them all the time and vice versa. Just wondering about internationally?
Thank you very much!

Here's the guide to benefits:

The definition of immediate family varies depending on the coverage you're looking at. Some sections say specifically that you don't need to be traveling together while other sections don't say anything about it. It's covered if you use UR. BUT @platamama brought up a good point before that if you only use UR, then if you needed to file a claim, you wouldn't have the travel charge on your statement to prove it. So paying a small amount in cash seems like a good idea.

I always forget to sign my cards these days (too many new cards 😅). Never had a problem with it until I used an unsigned one in Europe. Maybe there's more scrutiny since it's not true chip and pin like they have.

Looking for random tips -

Assume I have a decent amount of UR, Amex MR, Avios points, some Wyndham points, and (most importantly) SW companion pass.

I want to take as many short, mostly domestic trips with my 10 year old daughter over the next couple of years as we can. Mostly 3-5 day trips to Southwest destinations.

We like to stay mostly cheap, but are always on the lookout for value oriented upgrades or splurges. Cheap as in we will almost automatically stay in any 5k Hyatt property. And if there aren't great 5k or 8k Hyatt properties, I am generally considering a cheap Wyndham family hotel thru the Chase portal.

Any tips or advice for people like me that value quantity of nights over quality of nights?

Love that you are prioritizing making memories together.

Tip: SW has such a great re-accommodation practice if your flight gets changed/canceled. They’ll allow you to change your flight to any flight within 14 days of the original flight. You could speculatively book the cheapest flight within 14 days of the date you actually want to fly. Try to pick a cheap flight with a connection, ideally that is late at night. In my experience, these flights are the most likely to have a schedule change. Even if the schedule change is minimal, like 15 minutes, it triggers the reaccomodation practice.
If the flight changes, you’ll be able to rebook yourself on that more expensive flight you really wanted. When you are flying Fri-Sun/Mon, those can often be the higher points flights.

This tip only works if you are highly flexible. If you choose Dallas, for example, and 45 days (or whatever your tolerance) before the trip you are stuck with flights that don’t make sense, you have to be flexible enough to drop the trip or book flights at the real points cost.

I’ve not really done the above, but often book the least expensive flights I can find, and hope they get changed! Good luck.

I like to scan through the Hyatt tier list from time to time because values change and other than my local favorites I don't always know where the 1s and 2s are located. Perhaps, it will give you some trip destination ideas. https://www.hyatt.com/explore-hotels?categories=1&regionGroup=1-NorthAmerica. Hyatt Regency has plenty of category 2s if you want to upgrade to a premium suite as a special event (and would still classify as a "cheap" option at 16k points per night). I only did it once so I could say I had the experience, but I stayed in the $10,000/night Presidential Suite at Hyatt Regency Orlando (category 2) for 16k points. Most Hyatts show their suite award availability online now too, which is a bonus.

I'm a Delta fan, so my MR goes to Delta since I travel exclusively to domestic locations for the time being. They occasionally alter my flight times, but *knock on wood* have never been delayed or canceled the day of my trip over the past 3 years.

Help please! Has anyone here been to Barcelona? My inlaws are taking my kids on a Europe
cruise next year departing Barcelona. Im looking around at hotels as they will fly in 3 or 4
days to recoup jetlag/sightsee. Are there bad areas to avoid? Stay close to port? downtown?

Is getting around easy? Thanks!
Neve been but am going in May with my dd. We're staying at Cotton House--I had Marriott points and I like the location and it seemed to be a good points value for me. And I am slightly nervous because a male colleague and his husband went to Barcelona may 6 or 7 years ago and they had big issues with Gypsies and thieves.

Thanks for clarifying this for the OP- totally spaced this. And DW just got a CSP after her 4 year wait. Back when Chase Private Client first started none of this crap existed. Every time we went in the bank they wanted to show us new cards- and most of them had a boatload of extra points for CPC status. I had all three Sapphires for quite a while. Then the sh*t hit the fan. Initially CPCs were exempt from 5/24- but that didn't last long. Even the relationship between our CPC and Relationship and Business bankers have changed with the credit card department-it used to be they would pick up the phone and make things happen for us. Now our CPC banker will use any excuse he can not to have to call them on our behalf. We were promised an elevated banking relationship experience across all Chase goods and services when we deposited a crapload of money in their bank- elevated experience my a*s.

CPC was how we bypassed 5/24 when the CSR came out. We are still with them since they've actually done a good job managing things. By any chance have you considered BoA Platinum Honors in combo with their travel rewards card? I've toyed with the idea for the 2.6 on non bonus spend. But then I'd be foregoing an opportunity cost maxing out 5x with the old Ink Plus and a CIC. I don't have the time and energy to divide and conquer but it may be worth it to some who aren't in the mood to make frequent trips to Staples and OD/OM.

Like you, I think I'm ready to branch out from DCL and I'm looking at Viking (although I hate that they want PIF so early - that's really what has stopped us so far), but I'd love to hear your thoughts on Virgin when you get back.

My TA previewed the ship and said it seemed like it will be a lot of fun. She is traveling with us when we sail. I also have some Disney friends that have over 100 Disney cruises under their belts and they loved it too. I'll share feedback after we sail.

Yes…min of 30 or 31 days after the first…although I’ve read that some do the MDD with 2 business cards…..since I don’t need the CP until March my plan is to wait aprox 2 months between the business applications
So I'm reading some dp's over on reddit about biz app then a personal the next day...is this hooey? I guess I'm waiting to see the results of my biz app,if I try for a pers. ,can I try the day after (hopefully) approval?

We still have money with JP, too- we like our guy and he has done a good job. Based on my previous comments I am sure you can tell I still hold residual resentment for them going back on their initial promises, though- and they probably wouldn't have any of our money if we were looking at a relationship with them now instead of then. DW has had a fairly high tolerance for the credit card part of this game for a long time- early on bunch of new cards at one time was exciting because it was new to her- and her tolerance has continued through the years as I have made a lot of great redemptions. The banking bonuses she seems OK with since we can handle those with money that is easy to take out and put back. But, every time I breach the subject of moving money out of investments to put here or there because this or that can be maximized- well, let’s just say her tolerance for that part of gaming is pretty much zero. Happy wife happy life... so I don't push my luck- just glad she isn't at zero tolerance for the credit card part of the game. I would continue to play on my own- but it’s way more fun in 2P mode.

Do you still have to pay the $42.75 tax daily resort service fee and $27 day parking if you book at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress with hyatt points? What about the HIlton Orlando Lake Buena Vista and Signia by HIlton Bonnet Creek? Are the resort fees waived if you book through the Chase Travel Portal or Hilton points?

Also wondering do you get free parking at the Disney parks if you stay at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista and the Signia by Hilton Bonnet Creek (I'm assuming the Hyatt for sure is a no)?

If it's anything like their planes and their lounge at Heathrow sure it will be amazing.

Resort fees waived on points at Hyatt for all loyalty tiers. Free parking only if Globalist. Hilton waives resort fees, but not parking. Even as a Diamond I can rarely get them to waive it. Doubt it on the free parking at WDW but don't know for certain- someone else will have to address that.

You can apply for a personal SW card the day after the business card is approved…the 30/31 day wait is for business cards….

Are the Hilton's resort fees waived too if they are booked through Chase Travel portal or just waived if booked with points directly through Hilton?

Honestly, I think the URs are better. And of course, any MSR card. I have BoA Plat Honors, and between DH and me, we have the Travel Rewards, Cash Rewards, and Premium Rewards cards. They see very little spend. The only one that sees any use at all is the Cash Rewards, which I sometimes use on Plastiq for mortgage (mine codes as travel category; I know people have mixed experiences with that). But it's no longer available as a MC. DoC is reporting some upcoming rumored changes to BoA's tiers and elite cc offering, so I'm keeping an eye on that. As these loyalty programs are showing a trend to switching over to dynamic pricing, it's more challenging to get the really amazing redemptions that were more common in the past, so straight cash back does have its own appeal.

ETA: I know you know your way around all the award redemptions, you are the queen of award redemptions. I only tagged you because you mentioned BoA, and it was an easy way for me to add thoughts about it.

I doubt it since it is a loyalty perk. Any time you go through a 3rd party portal loyalty perks rarely apply. But that's the point of loyalty, they aren't going to hand out perks if they have to pay an online travel agency a percentage of the booking- they want people to book through them. Call Hilton- my guess is this will be their answer as well.

Some Scattered Recap Thoughts from our trip to WDW last week - hopefully this benefits some of my friends here in their planning!

1. First and Foremost: For somebody who was accustomed to using FP+ to develop a detailed agenda each day, Genie+ introduced a level of stress that I did not anticipate. From having to be on the app at 6:59am to get that first slot, to having to purchase it each day (meaning either up at midnight, OR up earlier than 6:59am), to simply not knowing what time slot would be available as I moved through my day... this all created some stress to the planner like me. Disney has spent 6+ years teaching me that spontaneity was bad... book your dining 180 days out, book your rides 60 days out... now they want me to just unlearn all that? That was a challenge throughout the trip.

2. With all that said, Genie+ was an improvement for us vs. the standby only Disney we experienced back in January 2021. We purchased Genie+ on the following days at a cost or $63.92 for our family of 4: 11/1 DHS, 11/3 MK, 11/4 DHS, 11/5 MK. At times during each of those days (typically early in the day), I did regret the purchase thinking I may have wasted money... BUT by the end of each day I felt like I fully appreciate the value of having it!

3. Despite feeling that the value was there, it's still hard to let go of the frustration that This all used to be FREE! Our Genie+ and ILL expenses on this 6 day trip were $488.98. That is comprised of $255 in G+ costs and $233 in ILLs across 6 rides. It's hard to overlook the fact that I paid $39 PER RIDE on those 6, and we even saved some money there since my wife could not ride RotR or 7DMT due to her pregnancy. I think the better way for me to look at this is to say I spent roughly $122 a person for Genie+ upgrades on a 6 day trip. That just feels a lot better. Or I could break it down and say it was it was $81 a day for the 4 of us... again that feels like a much easier way to look at it.

4. It feels inevitable that Disney will look to increase the price of Genie+ and ILLs in the future. That said, I don't see any scenario where we would go to DHS or MK without it right now. I think I'm just going to need to add $500+ in Genie+/ILL expenses to our future trip expectations. Luckily, through my CC endeavors and discounted gift card efforts, it's really not a big deal to us. But I can see how this might affect other folks in a much greater way in their planning.

5. I sort of wish Disney would come out with a VIP Genie+. Ideally capped at some small number each day, perhaps for some exorbitant price ($100-$150 a person?) You could just use the LL at any ride at any time...

6. The number one issue I faced with ILLs was that they (at times) felt extremely oversold. We experienced this at FoP and FEA, where the ILL line stretched waaaay outside the attraction entrance. I should point out however, that those same LL lines at different times during the day had nobody outside the entrance. So... was this just bad luck/timing on my part? Perhaps we just hit those at a time where MANY people chose to use their ILL? In both instances this was shortly after lunch... so maybe an anecdotal observation is to attempt to avoid using an ILL after lunch time (1-2pm) as it creates a crunch of people trying to use ILLs. We did not experience anything like this at RotR however, where we walked into the preshow room both times with no resistance whatsoever (pun intended)!

7. NEVER take the Swan bus... walk to the Boardwalk or Yacht Club, you'll thank me later, LOL!

8. Rope Drop still has value. But I cannot comment on how much value it has IF you aren't a part of early entry... I'd imagine much less than before, although hitting secondary attractions and using G+ and ILLs for the major stuff will likely still make for a successful rope drop.

9. Early Entry has even MORE value. 8 and 9 sort of go together, but the sage old advice of showing up early apparently will never go out of style. No matter how many people it seems are crammed on to those bridges at MK, or waiting in the first attraction line at DHS, there are WAY more people still back in their hotel rooms getting ready to arrive at these parks shortly before lunchtime. My greatest regret on the trip is that we slept in on Animal Kingdom day, it made for a pretty terrible last day. And I'm CERTAIN that an early arrival would have changed our fate in some ways.

10. Character meet and greets are slowly coming back (or should I call them "sightings" now). The face characters (princesses) were fun and focusing more on chatting than taking pictures made for cool interactions! Mickey was very odd, the distance and his inability to speak just made for an awkward moment.

11. Disney Enchantment is a wonderful way to end your evening but it is sadly NOT anywhere near the caliber of Happily Ever After. Had this show followed Wishes, we would have marveled at how awesome it was. But HEA was pure perfection, and they simply couldn't do better than that...

I think that is all of my musings for today. Happy to answer any questions as things remain fresh from our trip.
