I got the CIU in January. and before that the IHG premier in October and the CSP in April. If you don’t mind my asking, when were your last Chase applications/new cards before these biz apps? I’m having trouble being approved for a new biz card- been trying to get a CIC- but am denied due to recent inquiries and new requests for credit. Just wondering if the 3 month pacing is not long enough to wait like it used to be or if it’s just my bad luck.
would love itIs anyone interested in trying out CLEAR for the summer? I have 5 guest passes, each good for 3 months of CLEAR, and for each pass, the person can include up to 3 family members. PM me if you are interested!
(note - I get absolutely nothing if you do this, so it’s not a referral of any sort!)
My Arrival Plus just turned 2 and the AF will post soon. Is there any reason to keep this card? I know there was talk it was good for the chip and pin for Europe. Is that still a necessary thing?
According to my research you would get a pop up that you are illegible. If there was lifetime language, it is typically the first sentence, something like this:
OFFER TERMS
Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.
Good luck! DH is the proud new owner of Biz Plat, BTW.

The last time I was in Europe (Oct 2019), it really wasn't helpful since I tried using the PIN but the machines didn't need it. That said, I wasn't buying train tickets or gas (the two most quoted needs for it). Unfortunately, I would use my no AF Barclay card whenever I was overseas so Barclay cancelled my card for nonuse this March. I was kind of sad (and annoyed with both Barclay and myself lol). I pc'd my arrival+ to a no AF 4 years ago-will they still do that?
My CSP will be coming up for renewal in July. It's my only higher UR-redemption Chase card. Do you all think the $95 AF is worth it? I don't have any immediate plans to use the URs, but I am hoping to plan for Japan again for November 2022. I would (hopefully) be using my "stranded" 200K Virgin miles to book on ANA again, and then use URs for hotels since I don't have any hotel cards/points.
Oh! Didn't know I could downgrade and then upgrade it again! Thanks! I'll probably do that then. I'm terrible at budgeting or setting money aside so I definitely would not want to count myself doing that. You can downgrade to a no fee and then upgrade it back when you need it. Or if you’re planning to do hotel through the portal, you can PYB instead now and set that money aside in your budget.
If the plan is Hyatt hotels, you can also consider transferring now. Some category changes are coming in July though, so some risk there.
If you do Hyatt, will that get you closer to the 10 nights for 1 FNC? Or help you get to the suite night award? Or add a brand to your Brand Explorer?
If not - I value Hyatt at 1.5 cpp, so that's $465. Marriott at 0.8 cpp, so $480. So I'd probably go with the Holiday Inn Express.
I would blow the Marriott points, but I have a ton of Marriott points.
Obviously the cash rate at IHG is cheapest. You could keep an eye on this one to see if points rooms pop up, depending on the point cost.
I also would never pay 31K for a Hyatt Place. Love Hyatt Place but just no.
What else can you do with the Barclay points? What are they worth? I would be trying to keep cash in my pocket so if that is making cash out of pocket maybe about $150 or so, yes to using Barclay points on the IHG.

DH had AF post for his CSP. Which no AF should he PC to? I’m not familiar with the freedom cards at all. My main concerns are first that he supported DS to a CSP and points haven’t posted yet. Will he still get the points for that with a PC? And do the freedom cards earn URs or is it just cash back? His only other Chase cards are 2 CICs. I want to make sure he has a way to transfer his UR to my CSR.
Chase | Marriott Bonvoy Boundless | Personal | 10/28/2020 |
Amex | Platinum | Personal | 12/6/2020 |
Amex | Biz Platinum | Business | 3/7/2021 |
Chase | Ink Preferred | Business | 3/10/2021 |
Oh!You can also consider upgrading to the CSR when the time comes. Might be able to get 2 travel credits on one AF if you time it right. Then you can get 1.5 through the portal.
