CIU MSR done. Now hoping my Amex offer switches back to Biz Platinum before I need to pay the rest of my q2 taxes. Not sure what plan b is (I guess Biz Gold).

If you don't mind me asking, did you have a 3K CL on the CIU? I just got a new CIU with a 3K CL and I am trying to figure out how to meet the MSR while staying under the 3K. This is the first card from Chase with such a low CL. I think I will try to charge just under 3K for the first statement period, pay it off, and then ask them to move some CL over from another biz card. It's such a pain to have to figure out what charges will get me exactly 2999K.

Amazon - this morning I got an offer while I was looking for mother of the groom dresses. "Add your amex card and get $25 off your next order'. So, I added my Amex card and ordered a beach type dress that I had in my wish list.

No $25 off. Contacted Amazon and repeatedly got the runaround through chat and email. They defeated me as, even though retired, I don't want to put any more energy into this. One email even made me feel as if they thought I was 'faking' it.

Anyway, I've convinced myself that I did something wrong when I made my order. Has anyone else seen this offer?

And, even though I dislike doing delivered groceries, I did an Amazon Fresh order last night. Delivery between 8 and 10pm. It was delivered about 9:30 and all was perfect. No delivery charge as more than $35 and no tip for the driver.

The order drew from my gift card balance and gift card does not allow for tip, so I put the tip outside with a note and the driver missed it. I called but CS said no way to get it to the driver. Felt bad. Maybe that's why I was punished today with the fake offer.

It might need to be sold and shipped from Amazon. If it’s working, you’ll see the discount itemized when you checkout.

If you can get it to work, maybe you can still cancel your order?

I have had 3k lines on all my recent Chase biz cards. I have other biz cards to move the credit lines around though.

Thanks - I'm letting the order I made go through as I want the item. I was figuring next time I order something, it might click in. I did create 2 or 3 orders but didn't place them. Maybe I'll look for a 'sold and shipped by Amazon' and check that out.

One of the emails from CS had this line:

To help you with the promotion, I tried to enter your email address update your email address in the list but I see that the current promotion is offered by the automated system generated.

They were able to see the promo. They just couldn't see me getting it. They kept switching me from one CS to another. So, what I've concluded is that it will apply itself sooner or later. We have prime and so I usually pay no attention to shipping.

Ok so I figured I'd try again after being denied a new CIC my last two tries and just got instant approval! I had just gotten my second amex biz plat last week and had planned to give it another month before trying for the CIC, but an unexpected $20k purchase for DH business meant we met that 15K MSR in less than a week! So I was ready for a new MSR and just sitting here bored today I figured I'd go for it. Very surprised at the instant approval after the two recent denials but very happy I'll be adding the 75K UR plus the 20K for DH's support!

Looking for some advice. DH just PCed his CSR and lowered limits in order to go for the CSP in about a week, but now I'm thinking perhaps it should be a CSP/CSR MDD. We really do like our CSR and I now only have a CSP.

We have an upcoming trip I'd like one or both cards in hand by (6/18). Thinking of applying on 6/10 and 6/11. Is this enough of a quiet period before an MDD? Nothing before that since like 2016.

You don’t need to consider the Amex cards for Chase velocity. You should be good to go. It’s better to do the MDD early in the week in case you don’t get instant approval.

My Arrival Plus just turned 2 and the AF will post soon. Is there any reason to keep this card? I know there was talk it was good for the chip and pin for Europe. Is that still a necessary thing?

We have had 3 recent trips to Europe and DD lived there for a year and we never needed a chip & pin other than buying tickets for the tube in London, but we were able to use our iPhones for that purchase. It really depends on what you are buying. Normal tourist stuff isn't usually a problem.

OFF TOPIC! Motion sickness, specifically car sickness, relief recommendations please!

My 11yr old DD has mild car sickness, has only vomited once in multiple longer trips, but has been complaining about nausea more lately. Even on 10 minute rides. We have a road trip in 2 weeks and I’ve been researching options, but thought maybe you guys could offer suggestions. So far I’m looking at Sea Bands and Dramamine. I highly doubt she’ll try ginger, she’s finicky 😏 My concern about Dramamine is that it will make her sleepy. It’s not the end of the world, but I’d rather not knock her out, or make her grumpy because she’s sleepy. Do any of you have experience with either Sea Bands or Dramamine (Bonine), either personally or with kids? Thank you!

Sea Bands didn't do squat for us. DD used to take Dramamine. It worked pretty good for her and she didn't get too sleepy. Now we both use Meclizine, or more often I use the patch. Not sure if you can get a patch for a child or not, but it works best for me.

My oldest DD has pretty bad motion sickness both in the car and on planes. And she's never been one to announce that she's feeling bad so after being caught off guard a couple of times and ending up with a mess, we always have Zofran with us when we travel. The pediatrician prescribes it and its just a little tablet she takes and settles her stomach. No grogginess or anything with it. Works like a charm.

I still get motion sick with everything except ships*. My family would fight over who would pick us up at the airport since invariably I'd 🤮 on them...and then there's the infamous story of my Grandmother's viewing (I was able to make it to the restroom, thankfully). Basically, if your DD is anything like me, she'll take a little sleepiness/drowsiness to not feel so terrible AND not still get harassed at the age of 50 about almost puking on Grandma. I find Bonine, for whatever reason, doesn't knock me out as much as Dramamine and they're both fairly helpful if I take them early on in the flight/ride. Also, definitely allow her, once she's big enough, to ride up front-that helps as well as a lot of cool air. On the bright side, with my history Shotgun For Life😝

I feel for her-it stinks to have a super sensitive vestibular system.

*In 20 cruises I've gotten sick twice, in 20+ foot seas after doing the elliptical so that's more my foolishness.

I should add my dd would ALWAYS hurl in the rental car on the way back to MCO on every single trip, for many years. Didn't matter if we had breakfast, hadn't had breakfast, whatever. And she wasn't even in car the long enough for motion sickness. Thank goodness she outgrew that.

Thanks guys! I’m fortunate I don’t experience any kind of motion sickness, so this is a new adventure in parenting for me. I definitely want her to have some relief. I’ll try some Bonine/Dramamine first, and see how she handles it. The Zofran is a great idea as well. Thanks for feedback on Sea Bands as well!

DH and DD both get car sick- not so much motion sickness. But DD especially has a tough time in the car- short and long drives alike. We’ve had best results with Bonine (meclizine). Dramamine caused a little too much drowsiness and if taken on an empty stomach actually made her more nauseous and sometimes a little dizzy. I was really worried about her this past year, it was her first year in college playing softball and they had some really long bus rides- like 10+ hours. She used sea bands and bonine together and while she said she still felt a little off after a few hours of driving, they really helped her get through it.

I’ve been getting 3k on my and DH new CIC/CIU approvals. I don’t wait long, like a a few days, after I have the card and ask to move credit from another card. Just saying you don’t have to wait for the first statement if you don’t want to.

just wondering how many actually contact the CC company and let them know you are traveling. I have but probably only 10% of the time. I’ve never had a problem or mistaken fraud alert when using my card in another state.

I’m only traveling domestically. Maybe my first international trip I’d think different.

I always notify the bank when it’s a road trip. My husband takes a solo trip every year, and I’m afraid his gas purchases will trip a fraud alert. We had it happen once in California. I don’t know if it makes a difference, but it’s easy enough to do online.

I notified B of A that I would be traveling internationally so I could use my ATM card to get cash. They shut my card down anyway while I was in Paris. Huge hassle I did not appreciate having to deal with on vacation. Thanks to you guys I now know of better options.

AMEX newbie question - I recently got my first AMEX, the Marriott biz card. It’s got a $5k limit (which is also the amount I need to spend to earn the SUB). I’ve got a Marriott stay next week and obviously want to put it on my shiny new Marriott card, but it’s going to be tight fitting it in within what’s left on the credit limit.
I know credit card companies don’t like repeated paying down and re-spending, but am I ok to do this this one time? I wasn’t sure if I’d get extra scrutiny because it’s AMEX, it’s in my first month of the card, and/or it’ll enable me to earn the SUB in my first month.
Thoughts??

2 options:
1.Call and see if they will temporarily increase your credit line given the situation.
2. I would do what you are proposing if I were in your situation. Pay the room charges in full at check-in, pay your card balance, and then pay again with your card at checkout.

I’m going to second the suggestion that this probably has to be sold and shipped by Amazon. Amazon has a GC company that falls into that category, in my experience.

My 7 yo uses children’s dramamine about an hour before motion. He does fall asleep for about an hour, usually about 60-90 minutes after taking it. He isn’t groggy or cranky upon waking and prefers it over the motion sickness.

I used to consistently, but haven’t recently domestically. No problems. I will internationally.

Apropos of the recent discussion, what cards are chip and pin with no foreign transaction fees to be used in UK (DD going to school there for a year)?

Oh!

I guess I'd better go research the travel credits... although I don't know whether I could stomach the AF for that one (isn't this the one that is $550 now???) I am such a slow, low budget person that I never even looked into the high AF cards, and I wouldn't know a travel credit if I met one in the road!
Quoting myself here after looking up travel credits.

So the AF is currently $550, with a $300 travel credit. Right now it appears things like groceries and gas are coding as travel (although they may not, in the future).

So get the card, pay the $550 up front I think, buy groceries/gas (or real travel things) with the card, get credited for up to $300 of such purchases, transfer all my URs to this card to redeem for whatever (probably hotels), wait for the anniversary year to roll around, hurry and use ANOTHER $300 in the first week or so of the new card year, and then cancel the card? Thereby really wiping out the AF all together and still getting the benefit of the higher redemption on URs?

That made my head spin, but if that is accurate and I time it correctly to actually redeem the URs at the 1.5 rate, then it's actually quite a deal. I probably missed something major, though...
