I know a few of you are experts at the traveling sports team thing...I've got 4 sons and one of them is going to Orlando for a travel tournament for the first time . They are staying an Embassy Suites and he is going with my husband (my other son has Homecoming so I'm staying for that otherwise I would go). I have Diamond status with Hilton and the Hilton Surpass and Business cards. Can I reserve it with my credit card and have my husband check in? Will he need my credit card? Or, it's in 12 days, should I make him an AU on my business card? Amex doesn't like him if that makes a difference. Hmmm, with online check-in, this might not be a problem, right?

ETA: Wait, I just saw that I could add an AU for 5,000 points with $500 spend. would they let my son (15 years old) hold the reservation and the points would be tied to my Hilton account?
Book it under your profile with husband and son as "additional guests" Log your husband into your Hilton account on his phone. Now he can use the digital key, check in and check out on the app without ever having to talk to anyone at the counter. If everything is done through the app it all gets put on the card on your profile. That's how I'm almost diamond this year, wife's business trips. This all may go out the window though if the team booked a block of rooms, those may not be points or perks eligible depending on the deal the team or tournament cut with Hilton.

And, I got platinum with bonbon last year by using the app to check into a 5k property when I realized at years end that I had to do a stay to qualify. Needless to say the empty property was happy to take the points despite nobody showed for the room. Didn't have to clean it either. Or buy me breakfast.

Speaking of platinum with bonvoy…if I book 3 rooms for family for a weekend from my account, do all rooms count for my status or only one?

Congrats party:…are you going for the 2021/2022 CP ?
Just looking to extend it another year, thanks to referrals DH is 50k away from earning it again for next year.
I will be going for the 22/23 CP later this year. We should make good use of both CPs since we’ll be going to Hawaii and island hopping twice.

This is in About Marriott Bonvoy --> Benefits ---> Terms and Conditions.

As I read it you get the credit only for the room you are personally occupying. That said, I booked my son's room in Maui and have already gotten elite nights as I have previously and have called the hotel to let them know I wasn't in the room.

So, for 3 nights it looks like 1 night or 1 stay will be credited according to the T&C. But, YMMV, as with everything.

2.1.d. Qualifying Stay. A “Stay" or “Qualifying Stay” means all consecutive nights a Member registers for, and personally pays and stays at any Participating Property, for which (i) the room is billed to the Member, or (ii) the guest room is direct billed to the company who has arranged payment for the Member’s stay that is not associated with a convention or group meeting.

i. A “Stay” is a stay of one or more consecutive nights at the same Participating Property by a Member who: (A) provides his/her Membership Number at the time of reservation or at check-in; (B) pays a Qualifying Rate or redeems a Points redemption Award or a promotional Award for the stay; and (C) stays in one of the reserved guest rooms. If a Member checks out of a guest room and then checks back in to a guest room at the same Participating Property within 24 hours, it will count as a single stay for purposes of calculating Stays and issuing Member benefits. A Member may only earn Points for up to three (3) guest rooms during any Stay if he/she stays in one of the reserved guest rooms and pays a Qualifying Rate or redeems a Points redemption Award or a promotional Award for all of the guest rooms.

ii. A “Qualifying Stay” is a credit pursuant to these Program Rules that counts toward earning Elite Night Credit. Except as otherwise set forth in these Program Rules, including in Section 7.1 and 7.2 below with respect to MVC Owners and Vistana Owners, Members will only earn credit for each Qualifying Night (i) which is part of a Stay at a Qualifying Rate (as described in 2.1.e.), for the guest room the Member personally pays for and stays in, and not for any additional guest rooms, or (ii) for the guest room direct billed to the company who has arranged payment for the Member’s stay that is not associated with a convention or group meeting. Members do not receive Elite Night Credit on stays at Non-Qualifying Rates (see 2.1.f.).

iii. Members cannot earn or receive benefits at multiple Participating Properties for the same stay date(s).

iv. Only one Member per guest room can earn Points/Miles and Elite Night Credit, as well as receive benefits. If there is more than one Member staying in the same guest room, the Members must decide upon check-in whose Membership Number will be applied to the guest room provided it is the same Member who will be paying the bill.

I would book the hotel in your name and then have your. DH “check-in” early for you Using your DS’s new CC. (Assuming it is a personal since you need to be 18 years or older for a Biz card with AmEx.

Thank you both. Like so much in Miami, the league isn't very sophisticated so no blocks of rooms - Yay for Hilton!

For some reason after my summer trip, where we stayed a grand total of 3 nights in Hilton properties, I got notification that I was Diamond status now extended through March 2023. No idea how that happened as Amex Plat only gives Gold status and, obviously, we don't stay in too many hotels.

So I’m planning for a southwest CP for 22/23. It’s too early for me to apply for cards, I’ll apply Novemberish, with holiday shopping meeting the spend should not be a problem. I’m 2/24 with a sapphire double dip in April.

My son is getting braces soon and the first payment is 1k, plus our normal spend, so I’m looking for a new msr.

DH is 0/24, hasn’t gotten a card since 2/2020. I’m debating either a second CP for him or doing a sapphire double dip now. It would be too close together to do both to get the CP in time for our planned late Feb trip, but could always get it before summer.

Otherwise, I’m thinking of a card for myself- maybe amex biz of some sort? Stay away from chase leading into CP season.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Just an FYI, for those that may be interested. You can earn Southwest Rapid Rewards (or points in other miles programs) by switching your earning preferences in your Marriott Bonvoy account profile.

There are maybe 40 airline/partners you can switch to earn at.

The reason I bring this up is sometimes you may want to fatten up an airline account rather than buy points or something like that. You can switch back to points as well.

This is for earning, not for transferring.

Status has been hit and miss for tournaments for me. It all depends on who it's booked through. If I can book on my own I'm fine. If I have to book through the tournament, I never know. Sometimes the reservation will show in my app and be recognized as a direct booking and sometimes it's viewed as an "expedia type" booking. Either way, I do log in to my acct to book when I can and I rarely need to show the card at check in, if I go to the desk they just confirm to use the card on file. Lately, especially with Hilton, I use online check in and mobile key unless I need a hard card.

I think amex is drunk emailing tonight. I got an email about offers on my Marriott biz, which I don't have, with the pic\info for the Hilton biz I do have in the top corner. :sad2:
I received that last week.

Sadly, just 1 room will count. We drove from FL to MA this summer and stayed only at Marriotts, booking 2 rooms/night and just 1 room counted the entire time. I won't complain, though, since they were all on points and so that part of the painfully long and boring trip was free. 😁

I'm thinking of applying for my first business card, likely the CIC. A few quick (most likely easy) newbie questions if someone wouldn't mind answering them :)
1) P2 has a CSP - he wouldn't be able to refer me for the CIC since it's not in the same family of cards, right?
2) Are there any tax implications for applying for a business CC for a "business" - in my case, my "business" is some casual resale and potentially selling some craft items. Nothing that I currently worry about for tax purposes.
3) How strict are they on the application listing an accurate yearly income? I could certainly guesstimate, will that be good enough? Is there a possibility that they would ask me to send documentation to back up the number I list?

Thank you in advance!

What the heck is going on with PayPal? I have my Chase card set as preferred for online but I had charges go to DH’s CS Plat and Vanilla Plat instead? I just deleted those cards but not very happy to lose out on 5x.
That happened to me too a few months ago, I don't know what's going on with PayPal. So I did the same thing as you and ever since, I delete all the cards except the one I want to be charged. It's annoying.

1. No... you need to have any Chase Ink card to generate a link - but there are lots of link in the DisChurning page
2. Nothing besides the normal 1099 that you get for personal links - if you have more than $600 in referral bonus
3. I usually use $5,000 for revenue and sales, way more than actual sales of goods. But I do use our real household income. When you apply always apply as Sole Proprietorship, use your name as the business name so that when they do ask for any documentation you already have documents with that info (house bill/bank statements) but they normally don't ask for anything.

Great, thanks! I'll be sure to look for a referral code on DisChurning once I'm applying, then. To be clear, for the 1099 you mean that you get this for the points you earn in referral links, correct? So nothing tax-related for your "business"?

I'm starting to plot my strategy for earning a SW CP in early 2022. I previously had the SW Performance business card and got the bonus for that on 1/13/20. In looking at options, I was surprised to see this language in the offer details for the SW biz cards (Premier and Performance) (bolding of "this" is mine):

"60,000 Bonus Points After You Spend $3,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening: This new Cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of this business credit card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of this business credit card who received a new Cardmember bonus for this business credit card within the last 24 months."

I thought all SW cards were just one personal and just one business. Is this right, that I could go ahead and get the SW Premier business card now, and then get the Performance Business card in mid-January 2022?
