We would fly business or first through ANA. We did that in 2019 and plan to again but not until he’s older. I convinced Dh to save them for now but I’m not sure how much longer he’ll be willing to wait
Heh, maybe fly business/first with the baby. Babies tend to get extra attention from FA’s and wait staff and those lie-flats usually have enough room for the baby to sleep with either one of you.

90k RT for business (or 120k in first) on ANA is awesome, but they aren’t partnered with Chase UR anymore. Maybe take advantage of the AMEX Platinum SUB (100-150k) when your ready to make the trip.

Does Hyatt charge resort fees on a points reservation?

Hi all...

The AU talk got me thinking. I have two teenagers (14 and 17). The 17YO has been an AU on my Chase Freedom for at least several months now. He does actually use it for fuel and eating out with his friends and then he Venmos me me the money each month.

I'd like to also add my 14 yo as an AU. Am I OK to add him to the same Freedom card? The only other personal I have is the CSP. (Well technically I have a Chase BA Card also but I won't be keeping that past its year mark). I plan to keep the Freedom forever but I wasn't sure if I can put them both on the same card/account.

Also, there was an AU question upthread about how will the credit bureaus know, if the kids' socials aren't on their applications anywhere. I have that same question!

You can transfer the ur to virgin and then book ana.

@Haley R if you don't think you can get enough ur or mr in the next year and a half I'd wait. If you go when he's 4 you'll be booking when he's 3 and that's not that far off. He's almost 2. So you are getting to the point if you want to go then, that you need to start figuring out how you'll get the points .

I'd lay out the timeline for him and try and figure out when you'd want to go. Then you've got to see when either/both of you will be under 5/24 and potentially get chase biz cards. That will be hoe you can answer the question.

Also consider we don't know Ana through Virgin will still be a thing so you may want to try for mr instead since they also transfer to virgin but do others.

Then if virgin is still a transfer you can also look at citi cards and their thank you points but they can be inquiry sensitive

But that far out once you have a timeline and a plan a I'd come up with at least a b if not also a c like @calypso always talks about 😁

When did all of you start putting your kids as AUs?

I just checked DD's creditkarma and her oldest CC is 12 years old so...guess I added her at 8?!? Seems crazy but I suspect I wanted more cute Disney card patterns? I will say she was made an AU on about a Chase a year until she turned 13 and then of course Amex for another 4 years. Now I'm cautious since she's getting her own and we want to keep her under 5/24. I really do think having cards since she was young and keeping them in good standing has helped her credit score tremendously (ranges from 780-800).

I added my teen sons to our two CFF cards. Chase didn’t ask for their SSNs when I added them, so I’m wondering how the credit score world will know to take those cards into account in looking at their credit. Any tips?
Citi doesn't have a minimum age limit so I added my 3 and 7 year old to my double cash card. I had to call to have their SSN added as Citi didn't ask when I added them.

Following up on my own post. BOA is a $hitshow. Apparently what happened is that my card was flagged for fraud, because I actually tried to use the temporary card info that I was given so that I could use the account while waiting for the physical card. What??? The fraud department told me that I can't use the account until I get the physical card and activate it, and that's why it was flagged. I asked the guy "so you mean to tell me that I was approved, and I was asked if wanted temporary card info to use while waiting for the physical card, and was given that information, but then my account was flagged for fraud because I tried to use it before the physical card was activated??" His response was "yes, I know it's confusing, but..." It's not confusing, it's patently stupid. "Here's your account info, but if you try to use it your account will get locked." SMH.

On top of that, because of the "fraud," they canceled the physical card. Didn't bother to contact me to tell me that, but hey, why would I expect them to do that?

At the end of the day, they are expediting a new card to me, but because of the weekend I won't get in until at least Tuesday, and I was planning on using to pay DD's acceptance fee for the DCP, which is due by Monday.

This is definitely going to be a short-lived card. I'll get my Amtrak points, keep it for the year, and then drop it.

DH was able to use the temporary card info immediately but it was for booking Amtrak tickets. I wonder if that is why they issue the temporary card info. If they didn't allow any other uses, they should let people know about the limitation. Sorry this has been a frustrating experience for you.

GE and tsa precheck credits. Is it only GE on csr and personal plat or do they work on precheck too?

I want to sign up for GE in case I decide not to renew or have issues renewing my Nexus.

But my mom might be flying occasionally on her own with her dog and I realized I have 2 credits. She won't want the hassle of ge but I could get her to do precheck since it would be free. I would just have to go with her to pay right? We have dif last names so I don't think she could use the card.

Either work for CSR and Platinum. And I haven't done precheck in 4 years, but I think you pay online before you get your appoitment. I know you pay for GE right away.

You should be fine to add your other child. I have both of my kids as AUs on the same cards.

I can understand both views, it’s also hard to know that far in advance if anything will change in regard to using the URs for flights
That’s another thing I think about. Who knows it that virgin-ANA redemption will even be available then. I guess I like having the points “in case” because it’s definitely our goal to go back

That’s a good point to have a back up. Dh and I are both above 5/24. I’m 6/24 and he’s 7/24. I have two dropping off in March. We haven’t done a ton with amex because of the popup but we did recently get cards with them. We’ve been using the 20x on Amazon a lot. I think Dh has been using those points for gcs though 😕 I’ll have to talk to him and see how he feels. My goal was to go when Ds is 4 or maybe even 5 because it’s such a long flight

I just booked flights from Houston to London for our DCL cruise out of Dover in September 2022 on United premium economy for 45,000 points one way pp. Has anyone flown overseas and sat in this section? Looks like 3 rows of seating right behind business/first polaris. Also looking for recommendations for a place to stay in London for 2 nights pre-cruise. There will be a total of 5 people including a 10 month old so will need 2 rooms or possibly an AirB and B. Hoping to see a show or two while there.

We’ve stayed at the Royal Garden Hotel right next to Hyde Park, the Kensington Palace and Gardens. Hyde Park is sprawling and has the lovely Princess Diana Playground, perfect for the little one.
It may still be closed due to COVID?

fly bigger planes... :P

had to gate check once on delta, our luggage are usually fine on B737/A319 but we were on a commuter(E175). gate checked... well we still had to take it out to the front of the plane though lol.

Oh, believe me I try. We took a red-eye a few months ago because I wanted the 787 over the 737. I also try to sit up front, since that really helps, but we have one leg of a trip booked where the best I could do was premium economy. Since it's over the holidays, I'm assuming that that flight will be packed, and there was no choice to find a larger plane for this destination.

Also consider that you might decide to go before he turns 5. I'd do it if I really needed the money, but if possible I like to hold onto points and keep my options open.

That’s true. It’s very possible we might go before he’s that age. I honestly would love to go sooner than him being 5 if he’s able to handle the plane ride and things are more normal

We did precheck last year and my ds just did his. We paid at the appt.

I just have to pay for these with each card correct? Or is there something I need to activate?

That sounds even stupider than Citi flagging me for fraud because I rented a moving van and changed states.

I know we aren't real big on cash back cards here, but Navy Federal just changed their 1.5% card to 1.75% if you have a direct deposit with them. Don't know if that really changes the calculus for anyone here but it's at least interesting. Now that I have two 2% CB cards though I won't be bothering to get it.

I'm staying with my NFCU Flagship. It's 2% and they just credited me $130 for Prime. That ended in September but was certainly a nice one time perk.

DD has a 1.5% card and her paycheck is direct deposited. I'll have to ask her if she's getting the 1.75% now.
