Maybe I need to call. They said they did everything right on their end so they forwarded our case to the escalation team. I’m kind of just over it
If you can find time (and desire) you might have success with at least a gift card. I had to push it a couple times and then finally escalate to someone who would handle it right then. Basically he couldn’t pay me back with a check “you paid with a gift card so that would be illegal” but he did end up giving me a gift card while I was on the line. It was all rather BS and has soured me against Disney but even gift card money is better than nothing. Just something to think about.

For those with Amex personal gold DH’s card came up with AF due. First year of him having it. I did the chat to ask for retention offer. I said I liked the card but had overlap with others and didn’t want to pay AF. Rep said “but what about grocery stores.” I then explained “my wife had one.” It ended with so you will keep it? And I said I was thinking unless he could give me any other reasons to keep it open. After that long game finally got 20k MR’s on agreement to keep it open another year. I was fine with it as I do like card. (He doesn’t care or know really).

The feature now if being able to chat for a retention offer is huge when you have a reluctant or ambivalent spouse.

Thanks I’ll probably try later today when I have time. We bought our passes from sams club but I have an email that says we should be getting a check anyway.

I have multiple stories from friends IRL whose kids applied for the CSP or the CSR once they were out of college and had good, high paying jobs. All were denied. Chase seems to want a longer credit history (not just AU cards) before handing out the sapphires. My DD got the CFU and the CIP with no issues, but didn't try for the CSP because of these DPs. I know these kids and they have great jobs and great credit scores so that isn't the problem here. I honestly think it's just being younger and having a shorter credit history.

Of course, YMMV, but we told DD to hold off on applying for these right now.
well it was worth a shot I guess..he doesn't care much, just wants a place to park his points for awhile till he can travel again, and was happy to learn he could PC to avoid the upcoming AF....

Hoping for a little help from you experts on booking Swan or Dolphin for a trip in January. We are a family of 5 me, DH, DD12, DS11, DS9.

First, can I only do a room for 5 at Dolphin, not at Swan?

Secondly and here's where credit cards come in.
For my dates I'm seeing the following prices for 4 nights in early January.
  • On the Marriott website - 210,000 points plus taxes and fees
  • On the Marriott website - $1,170 cash including taxes and fees
  • On Expedia - $896 total including taxes and fees

I was just approved for the Bonvoy Business and I expect to meet MSR very quickly, so I'll have 100,000 points there. Plus I have a capital one venture that has about $900 in rewards and lots of URs (400K+) that I could transfer (through a CIP).

So my question is how should I book it? Points? Cash? Combination? and what card should I be using? If I book through Expedia I don't earn points at Marriott, right? But the price is significantly cheaper (worth forgoing the points) and it's refundable, whereas on the Marriott site it says it's nonrefundable.
I know now that my platinum elite status doesn't kick in until February, but do I have any status since I have the card, and does it matter?

I'm leaning towards doing it through Expedia and using the Capital One to erase it. But I'm not sure of the downsides.
I'd appreciate any input anyone might have.

Thanks as always!

Can I ask about his stats? What other cards does he have? How old was his credit history? Also, did he go ahead and apply yet for the Flex?

That is a tough call, if you book through Expedia you won't earn points or elite nights. What you could do is a combination of points and cash directly on the Marriott website. You could do 2 nights with Marriott points and pay cash for the other 2 nights, that will allow you to earn point and elite nights.

Might this be eligible for Marriott's Best Rate Guarantee? https://www.marriott.com/online-hotel-booking.mi#bestrate
I've never tried it (yet) but there is a large thread on the Flyertalk Forums.

My daughter and her DH also purchased their passes from Sam’s club, we purchased ours directly from Disney with Disney GCs we all received a check
I honestly don't know why we haven't gotten anything. I just tried calling and it said the wait time is more than 30 minutes and I just don't have the time to sit and wait like that so I'll probably just say forget it

It seems weird to have such a big cost difference. I tried random January dates on the Bonvoy site and I see an extra person fee even with 2A/2C. That doesn't seem right?

There's an Amex Offer for spend $250 get $75 back. Maybe you'd want to do 1 or 2 nights on your Bonvoy card to take advantage of that, the rest on the Capital One.

If you decide to use points, keep in mind that you still have to pay the resort fee. Personally, I'd save them for a higher value redemption. But it just depends if you have other uses for them.

Yup, the extra person fee was $200! When you take that out it's more inline with Expedia.

If I book as 2 adults I wonder if I can just call and say, "Oh yeah, we also have 3 kids with us..." From a quick search online it seems like they aren't supposed to charge it for kids.

Since the cash price is pretty low ($155/night) I think you're right about using the points for a higher value redemption.
I could just pay cash and I could use the Capital One points to off set the park ticket prices on undercover tourist.

I don't seem to have that offer in the offer section for my card. Should I be looking somewhere else?

The offer is targeted. DH didn't get it on his new Brilliant either. Sometimes you can find offers you didn't get on the Amex Connect site, but I don't see it there either. It might show up later, but you probably want to book already. Also, I forgot to mention that it expires 12/31, so it would have to be a prepaid reservation.

There a new Amex Offer for World's Leading Cruise Lines (Carnival, Holland America Line, Princess, Seabourn Cunard). Spend $500 get $100 back. Going to pay down our Mardi Gras cruise in 2022.

4 nights on Marriott Points should get u 5th night free... im not sure if u factored that in.

Successful MDD for CSP yesterday and CSR this morning! :cool1: Both automatically approved (lots of extra credit line available and very little recent activity, so they should have been easy approvals). Now off to spend 8k. Just once, I would like to have trouble meeting my msr. Somehow, extra expenses always magically appear. pixiedust:

And, this is why I have to stop applying for cards...

My niece is two semesters from graduation but dropped out bc she got behind on tuition. Last year I told her we would pay the past-due whenever she wanted to go back and had financial aid and income on track for the rest. Today, she asked if we were still willing help with $3k to get her re-enrolled. ::yes::

Remind me to NEVER sign up for that Ink Biz with the 15k msr!

Has anyone seen DPs on what works for the Amex Bonvoy biz advertising credit? Since my biz is eBay & they roll all promotional fees into my monthly bill, I'm wondering if there is anything it can be used for.

No, I didn't factor that in, but it makes me think even more so that I should save my points for something else and pay cash for this one. We can only do 4 nights for this trip so I'd hate knowing I could've had a 5th free and didn't.
I'm also back to leaning towards Expedia because it's fully refundable up to 5 days before and booking directly with Marriott is non-refundable.
I'm definitely not willing to book non-refundable these days.

FYI if anyone was wanting to do the ATT upgrade offers, today is the last day. I had to go an change what I was doing completely since they said a line was eligible for an upgrade but really wasn't.

Also managed to get lucky last night at Walmart and got 2 of the $88 42" TVs and got my BF the 65" for $228!
