Yeah that is also something I was afraid of. If we got halfway around the world and couldn’t go to the Great Wall, Forbidden City, the temples, etc. the trip wouldn’t be worth it for us. It does make me feel a little better about postponing, but it still sucks.
Since we have a Europe trip planned next year, we’ll have to reschedule for 2022. DH really wants to go somewhere we can drive this year instead of fly, so we’ve narrowed it down to NOLA or the Keys. Any recommendations from the wise Dis’ers? We are usually pretty active on vacation, if that matters, and have never been to either place.

Are you looking for a week or shorter? I would think both of those are good for a long weekend, but I wouldn’t want to stay either place for longer. Though if you are driving I guess you could add stops to other places in between.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. My DS has some anxiety issues and doesn't "need" to drive right now. He really just needs an ID. I remember getting my license as soon as I could and being super excited about it, but he has no interest. Maybe he should just pursue getting an ID first and deal with the driving part later. I'm just concerned if I don't push him now, he'll never get it. Parenting is tough!
Can you get just a state ID card? I imagine it's the the same requirements but if he's not interested in driving right now might be an easier alternative. Or at least cheaper, maybe. If he gets his license would he need insurance? I know insurance laws can vary by state but here it's a pain to have a licensed driver in a household with a car and not have them included on a policy (either yours or theirs).

Always good to have a photo ID once you're old enough to get one. My friends that had no interest in driving got state IDs before leaving HS.
Wow. I guess he lives somewhere with good public transportation. As long as he continues living there I guess he is good. Though I would worry about vacations. There are just some you can’t do without renting a car. I guess there are probably many people who live in big cities that never drive.
My now-20yo dd only has a state ID card. She had no interest in driving, especially since in our state homeschooled kids can only take the (free, required when under 18) drivers' ed in the summers or in the evenings (that choice is an hour away). She was always away for the majority of her high school summers.

Her university and the community have decent bus routes. With Uber/Lyft, she can go anywhere else. There's a very inexpensive regularly-scheduled bus shuttle to the airport an hour away. She foresees working in cities (and countries) with good public transportation.

Yeah, I made my Ds get his id so he'd have it when needed..then I gave him an old ten speed bike which he used to ride to work while he decided if he wanted his license or not.... :rotfl: it didn't take long for him to come to a solid decision:thumbsup2 (That however is a whole other story, our DMV is sooooo awful) And in our state yes, you must pay extra on your own insurance if there's a teen with a license or permit in the house.....

I guess they are not thinking about kids yet. I can’t imagine not having my license with kids. Who is going to be the mom taxi? Lol

And with the news of 2 deaths in Florida my flight to Florida went down in price today even cheaper than yesterday.
Yeah. I'm not thrilled about the FL situation. There's now a case in Lee County which is next to Collier County where my 76-year old parents live. My mom is out and about non-stop. I know it's only one case. I'm just worried due to my parents' age. I'm sure I'm not alone.

ETA: I forgot it's spring training season so my dad's up in Lee County several times a week watching the Twins play. Ugh.

Yeah, I think I messed up letting him wait until 18. He actually has no interest in driving and maturity-wise he may not be ready. I'm only trying to push this now because we're finding that college applications are asking for ID and he has none.

I would have done the same. My DD has been dying for a license since she was about 13. DS is almost 15 (you can drive at 15 1/2 here) and I don't see him driving for a few years. He's not really interested. So if he waits til 18, I'll be back on here looking for what documents you used. :D

Very true, but this particular kid plans on living in places with public transportation (her future job possibilities are only in cities and other countries with good transport) and she's the one who says "no kids" lol

I said that also. I made it to almost 26 before things changed.

I got me one of those and with her anxiety around driving, she's 21 without a license but with a passport for ID. I am not happy about it.

The lid to my Dyson V8 Absolute broke so basically my vacuum is worthless at the moment. It's under warranty but I have to wait 10 to 15 business days for the replacement part. Seems a bit excessive. Not thrilled with Dyson. A one-year old $300+ vacuum shouldn't break so easily.

We got some amazing deals at garage sales today! I never wake up early on Saturdays but I’m so glad I did today. We went to one place where this lady had clothes from her church that people donated. She said to fill a grocery sack for $1!! We also got this cute Eric Carle set of books with a tablet for 75 cents that’s $30 on amazon! I’ll share some pictures.

I love garage sales but i feel like they suck in our area. We went all the time growing up. Great scores!

I don’t have a ton of experience with garage sales because my mom never went to them. She went to antique malls though. We drove 15 minutes for this one in another town that’s a little older. I guarantee if this stuff was for sale where we live it would’ve been 3x the price.

I have a desk I just decided to get rid of. It's French provincial country styled and by Ethan Allen but from way back(1990's). In very good condition. Been in a bedroom for many years and not used as a desk but as a catchall for stuff. Time to go. Hopefully I'll get something for it. But, doubt the demand is out there as even I have changed and collect more modernistic styles now. Maybe someone older will want it.

On top of that DD just ousted a table I had stashed in her area - she has a bedroom, plus small sitting area/office plus bathroom. This table is sentimental to me. So where am I going to put it?? I can't just get rid of it. Or maybe I can.

Seems to me I need to have a yard sale. Or do Craigslist after our trip next week. So much work...

Edit: Found it on Ebay for $895. I'll be happy with much less.

I think sometimes for furniture craigslist can work better. It really depends on your area though. We did a garage sale before we moved and barely sold anything. A lot of it ended up going to goodwill.

I also think you might be surprised about people wanting the “older” style furniture. Some people have really gotten into the vintage stuff. My SIL buys a ton of second hand furniture like tables and repaint a them herself

Anybody who used that loophole is going to be hard pressed to beat that. If you did it right you literally booked the absolute cheapest price on that route available, lol! 🤣 🤣 I checked my flight prices today but I was 99.9% sure there would be no savings...and I was right! :D
I was thinking that exactly. Like why I am even bothering to check, I knew I wouldn’t find a better price. But in the past when I did use that method, I have been able find lower prices for sure.
Well...color me wrong. I’m seeing some DPs that fly in the face of my 99.9% confidence. 🤣

So keep checking those SW flights!
