Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been frantically packing up dd’s things so we can move her to wdw tomorrow!

Im looking at using the cert at a few different spring hill suites. There’s one in the Marriott village right by dcp housing.A new oneat flamingo crossing that @disneymagicgirl just stayed at and liked. And another one that I’ll be at tomorrow night. I will post about it after I get back!

Thanks for answering! Have a good and safe trip! I'll be down by the 10th and I'm ready to leave now. I've never stayed at Springhill Suites but I've got one booked on my way back from upcoming trip.

Editing to add in that Wyndham has a credit card/points or nights program also. It recently changed so not up on it now.

Just wanted to say, Wyndham has gotten progressively worse over the years. Don't hear as much about them due to sparse properties and lots of budget options, I guess.

The Barclays card used to grant you 15,000 points annually, and every Wyndham night anywhere was the same 15k price. So it was a free night a year.

The card changed to giving you Wyndham Platinum, which granted an 3k annual points bonus, and the card itself granted a 6k annual points bonus, for a total of 9k annually. Not the best deal, but Barclays is known for sending occasional spend bonuses so it typically wasn't too difficult to get to 15k for a free night.

Then they realigned the bonus nights and bumped about 300 of their hotels to 30k points per night. Pretty much all the good and even decent ones in bigger cities.

And now, most recently, they eliminated the Platinum annual bonus, so the only thing left is the Barclays 6k annual bonus.

Sadly, Wyndham is really not viable anymore, unless you can stay at 7,500/night points cost properties. Even then it's iffy given the exchange of only 6,000 points for a $75 annual fee.

When on the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, you can adjust the amount of points you are using to slightly less than that required to cover the full fare and then pay the balance with a credit card. If i pay a small balance with the United card will it trigger the free checked bag?
I think that could work. Looking at the T&C of the free checked bag for cardholders, it does state that if you use award miles for the ticket but cover fees and taxes with the United card, you still receive the free checked bag (read #6 on the linked t&c above). You need to enter the the primary cardholder's MileagePlus number into the reservation to qualify. You get one free checked bag for one companion traveling on the same reservation too. I know URs aren't exactly the same as a UA mile, but it is essentially a cash ticket that you are paying some of the price with your United card. I've never tried this IRL so can't share from experience, but that's the best I could find.

I totally get it. My youngest turned 18 last week. Both my kids are adults now  Only thing I keep thinking though is next time we cruise DCL we'll all be able to do Palo brunch together :flower:

We had such a good time introducing DD to Palo, the adults only area, etc on our last cruise. It's not the adorable princess photo ops of 12 years ago but it's good in a different way. :)

Thank you so much for looking into this! I think I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't work out I will send a message to United customer support explaining the situation, and hopefully they honor it. Will let you know how it all works out!

It's been so quite here this week. Is everyone on vacation?
I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet. I’ve been in a weird state the last couple of weeks - focused on packing my dd19 up to move to wdw for 6 mos and when I’m not packing, I’m pretty much freaking out over this life change lol. I know it will be fine and I’m so excited for her but it’s just really going to be different and it’s settling in on us all how much we’re going to miss her. I guess this is normal when the first little chick leaves the nest??? Anyways, once I’m back, I’ll refocus!

@happ I went through that weird feeling when my oldest turned 18yo. It’s really so strange and requires a shift in how you parent. It’s been fun for me to watch my dd blossom as an adult and realize that we didn’t totally screw up 😂

My youngest will be celebrating her 17th birthday :scared1: in Edinburgh the end of May. We’ve never been before. Maybe while we’re on the topic, somebody can help me with ideas on great ways to celebrate a birthday while there? We’re staying at the Radisson Blu for 3 nights and it’s the first stop on our 4 city trip (Edinburgh, London, Paris, Venice).

I know there are quite a few eBay sellers and “sellers” here :rolleyes1 <= found the smilies, thanks!!
Does anyone use pirate ship for shipping? Do you find the cost comparable to what you get purchasing through eBay and does it code as shipping in the CIP? I spend a lot in shipping through eBay and there’s no way I’ve been able to get it to pull from my CIP instead of a PayPal balance. It feels like a huge wasted opportunity and I couldn’t find any DP when I googled.

Using a 3rd party's points to book a trip is not an award booking. That is a cash booking because Chase will pay United with cash and therefore doesn't qualify for the free bags.

A real life example from 2 months ago is here. I completely disagree with the author's conclusion the person should be able to fight UA for the free bags successfully but obviously please draw your own conclusions. My point is by linking the article is it did not work automatically.

Too funny! My DD turned 17 on our arrival day in Edinburgh for our university touring trip to Scotland and England. And we stayed at the Radisson Blu! We had talked about climbing Arthur's Seat for her birthday but ended up being a bit too tired since it was our arrival day and we'd flown overnight. We did some wandering around the city and then DD wanted to go to the Scottish Museum. She also wanted Indian food for dinner. If you have more energy and since you haven't been to Edinburgh before, you could do Edinburgh Castle or Holyrood House. I haven't done it, but I know others like the Mary King's Close tour. Scroll back a few pages and you will see a number of recent suggestions for things to do and places to eat in Edinburgh. If you're looking for a nice birthday dinner, you might look into Prestonfield House. I was there decades ago to celebrate on of my father's birthdays, but I believe it is still there and highly regarded.

It's a rather depressing time in the churning world right now I think lol. All news is bAAd news, 1099s are coming out, the new DL offers are "meh"... just nothing really exciting right now :( And when what is exciting is the suckiest thing to happen to churning since this time last year when 1099s for referrals suddenly became a thing :badpc:... it doesn't really leave me feeling chatty :(

Is there a trick I am missing to get the AMEX Everyday card 25k to show in incognito mode? Can't seem to pull it....just keep trying? I looked at support links on dischurners and they all seemed to be for 15k.
I just pulled it up Incognito Chrome using the Amex prequalified offers search function. I’m actually trying to see if by some miracle DH is prequalified for a Hilton card. No such luck, but the 25k Amex EveryDay was there. Maybe try that 🤷🏼‍♀️

Daughter made out while she could. She managed to get 2 stays for both her and her husband and got the 15k or free night for 2 stays promo twice. 2 of the hotels were fairly local mattress runs (Fredericksburg) and nobody slept there. They checked in and then went to a friends house. The other was in Charlottesville and I don't think they got much sleep! The 4th night was the Microtel and it was new in Ocean City and spotless, just tiny. Then we used the free nights at the Tryp which had become a 30k property, but she was booked before that happened.

I used to do the same with $50 stays at SPG properties in Virginia to get free nights on the weekends in places like NYC, Boston, Providence and Orlando. Check in and go home.

I’m going to pull the trigger and app DH for his first AMEX card. Although we do have some history with the former AMEX Costco card. My plan is to do 1 Hilton card now and another for him in the Fall, roughly 7 months between apps. Soooo...I know there was discussion yesterday, but what do you all think? I definitely want the Aspire so I’m thinking I should do that one first and then the Biz in the Fall. He will be able to keep consistent spend on the Aspire over the next year, but man that pop up is so unpredictable. Is there any reason I should try for the Biz first that I’m not thinking of? He’s 2/24
Your thoughts and wisdom would be appreciated :thumbsup2

I have tried a few different ways similar like that today.....will try from computer at home soon. Thanks for the tip!

California trip planning question-
We are planning DL for 2021. I think it will be early May. I’m leaning-
First 3 nights/4 days DL
Next 4 nights SD for Legoland, zoo, grandma (hopefully- shes 95), and beach/explore day. Is there anything else worth doing near DL/SD with two toddlers? 7 nights feels almost short for flying so far! Just trying to figure our if its worth extending to add anything.

I'm a small time Ebay seller, but I have used pirate ship a couple of times. I had some queen sized sheet sets to sell and saved a bundle by shipping through pirate ship. I just set up account and paid for the shipping directly to them. They charge by cubic inch or something like that so for heavier items that aren't oversized, it's a big savings. I didn't think about putting it on my CIP, but I would think it would code as shipping. I'll try to look back through my statements and see if I can find which card and used and see how it coded.

I sell on eBay...the only way I have found to get the shipping charged to my CIP is to transfer the $ in PayPal to my bank before Buying the shipping label...
