How many people really think the kids will be going back to school? I am 90% sure DS will be completing 8th grade virtually. His last day is 6/3. Luckily, he has that option at his private school. Our county students don’t since there is barely enough laptops for a grade and certainly not enough for everyone plus the lack of internet service that some students may have.
The 8 week recommendation by cdc for gatherings puts us at the end of our school year. I guess they'd extend the year? No clue. I will just pull DS12 and homeschool him if that were announced. I already homeschool DS10 anyways.

Well, like @wendow's DD, mine is heading home too. She is doing some laundry and then going to drive home. A friend will join her for the ride and fly to NJ from here.

I told them to get out of FL asap, because as more is announced, traffic coming home will get bad.

She actually moved there in Jan and has a year long lease, so this is just a speed bump. Hoping disney will call her back up soon after they open. We just have to have a little faith, trust, and pixie dust right now.

I feel so bad for all the kids, but I have a high school senior and a college senior, so especially feeling bad for them. They are missing out on a lot of their "lasts". So sad. Someone mentioned this current batch of high school seniors were born right around 9/11 so they have some real defining moments in their life between that and this current situation. I actually had strong suspicions I was pregnant the morning of 9/11, just happened to be the timing, but I just couldn't bring myself to take a test for over a week. It was just such a scary time then I didn't want to think about bringing a baby into that mess. So I feel any anxiety you may have @Haley R.

I've been thinking about all the kids missing these things too...prom, maybe graduations...so sad. :(

I am in love with your pic!! I so hope she gets to go back.

I'm in the same boat with UO tickets for 3/28. I filled out the cancel form after wasting 1.5 hrs on phone and then being hung up on on Saturday.
I'm skeptical that I'll see my points but I'm generally pessimistic.
I wonder if I should still call as my dates near? I'm guessing when other weeks are canceled past 3/31 the call volume will remain high.

Does anyone know how long the tickets that I bought are good for? Nothing in the email or my trips states an expiration date. I only have a voucher bar code number. When I called UO they couldn't help me figure that out since it's not a ticket yet. They told me once you scan the voucher and get a ticket then UO charges Chase for the ticket. Since no "money" changed hands, it seems logical we could get our UR back but......
thanks for your info..... this is a weird place to be in right now.... my one sis who actually spent $ to buy hers can easily get a full refund right now, but the points option turned out to be a bad thing for this situation. when I got them I had to input a date. and a use by date was on them (I think) I'm going to go check that. ETA- I had thought mine had an expire date on them, but you're right,I don't see one right now. I thought they were seasonal(?) I don't care if I can keep and hopefully use them later on....

Interesting reading the comments about having cash. We rarely use cash for anything, but I usually have about $200 sitting around. I was just at Aldi this afternoon and there was a sign on the register that they are not currently giving cash back due to high demand, so I guess a lot of people were asking!

My slickdeals Deal Alert for today is free online learning for K-8 from ABCmouse.

My chest is still kind of hurting but I haven’t noticed any other symptoms. I sneezed earlier and it hurt my chest pretty bad

Another tip re maintaining a cash-on-hand stash: Keep a good portion of it in $1s and $5s. If it ever comes to the point where you need to pay cash at most places (and the most likely scenario is not virus but a power outage), stores won't always be able to make change, and that $3 item will cost you $20 if that's the smallest bill you have.

I also have a high school and college senior. My high schooler is my youngest (boy) and he doesn't seem to be too fazed by any of this. I think it might hit him later though although he is definitely not an outwardly emotional person anyway, so I"m not sure. We did have one final college visit planned because he still hasn't decided for sure where he is wanting to go. I'm doubtful that is going to happen, so we're going to have to have a talk and make a decision soon.

Middle DD is my college senior and she's still at college right now. They've extended their spring break for this week (their actual break was last week) and then they start online classes. She lives off campus in a small house with one other girl. They are both planning on staying. Right now my DD's job is still going on, but she's a waitress in a hotel restaurant, so I'm not sure how much longer they will be working. We live in Illinois and they are closing all restaurants tomorrow (can still do drive thru and curbside or delivery) and I wouldn't be surprised if Mississippi doesn't follow suit before too long. She loves her life in her college town, so I know she'll be so sad if she has to come home and be done on this note. We've talked that if they don't end up holding a graduation, we will probably pick a weekend next fall and have everyone who would have gone down for her graduation go down together so they all at least get to see where she's been these past 4 years. I know it's not even close to the same, but at least it would be something. Hopefully we're not still in this situation by May and we won't have to worry about it anyway!

Here's an update on my cancellation through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Had a flight booked on United 3/13 returning 3/16. Decided the night before not to go due to this situation. Trip was booked using Chase Ultimate rewards points through my wife's CSR. Could not get through to anyone on the phone to cancel. After 2 hours on hold, the call was dropped. It was after midnight so I gave up and went to bed. The next morning I did not show up to the airport. I got an email from Chase Ultimate Rewards saying my trip had been cancelled. I checked the flight status and it did actually go ahead.

This morning I planned on calling in again, but first I checked the Chase Travel site. In my trip history, the flight is listed there and it says "Cancelled." I clicked on it and it says the following:

"This reservation has been canceled. We're sorry your plans didn't work out. When you're ready to book a new trip, we'll be happy to help.

Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel may take up to 24 hours to process your refund. Once your refund is processed, Chase may take up to 7 business days to post the credit to your account. You should see your refund on your next statement."

I do not have the points back in my account yet so we will see, but this looks promising. Was very upset that I could not get through on the phone to cancel, but if all it takes to get your points back is to simply not show up for the flight then that's a pretty easy process!!!

I put an $1100 charge on my Barclay Arrival Plus for my WDW trip in mid-April and then used points to erase it.
When the inevitable happens and I have to cancel that trip, do I just get an $1100 credit on the card?
Yes, you should just get a credit. I don't have an Arrival card anymore, but that's how it worked last year.
Edit: Just want to add that if you received points on the original purchase, those may get deducted from your points balance.

is it ok to pet the neighbor's cat when I take the trash out?!!"

Please tell me it is okay to pet the cat!

I read a few days ago that China had decided that none of the dogs they had quarantined when their owners tested positive had contracted the virus but I couldn't tell whether the source was reliable. If we have to worry about the cats, I think I really might have to go sit in a dark room and cry for a bit.

Dd is also a high school senior. She is missing a lot of perks of being a senior. Senior "skip day", senior prank, grad bash (busloads of kids descent upon Universal at park close, park stays open into the wee hours and they get back to school parking lot at 6:00am), senior "fountain dip" (they take off shoes and socks and splash around in the wading pool surrounding the fountain), very likely prom and most likely graduation. The university she is attending in the fall just cancelled graduation.

Her online classes are going pretty well today. She has logged in and teachers are going ahead with classes as normal. She has a test tomorrow and another on Thursday. Test tomorrow is optional open book, but teacher advised to study because each screen will have a time limit. She said one of her teachers kids kept appearing (behind the teacher) and it was really cute! I'm glad that school is keeping them busy. Also glad that they finished the curriculum for AP Calculus on Friday and just doing review going forward. Thankfully she has 97 in this class and has a very good grasp of the material.

I wonder if it could be from stress/anxiety? I am not trying to down play it at all. Just a thought. I hope you feel better soon!
It’s very possible that’s what it is. I’ve never had that kind of anxiety before so I’m not sure what it feels like. All I know is I sneezed earlier and it hurt my chest pretty bad

@WVMomof3 @ski_mom

I am in the same situation with a high school senior and a college senior. We have told our youngest that she probably won't go back to school, so she is feeling it the most saying she is missing out on all the senior stuff. I think Prom and the college graduation will be cancelled since they are both May 2nd, but there might be a chance for the HS graduation at the end of May. It is going to be an interesting few months!
