Unfortunately the new ones are not the same quality. I love mine but am on my third one in 18 years. I have the heavy duty one and still wear out the motor.
Oh, that's no good! I'll be buying one for older dd in the next year or so, so I'll need to start paying attention to reviews.

I mainly use my KA for yeast breads/rolls (at least weekly), for beating egg whites and cream, and for the odd batch of cookies. When younger dd is home, it gets used much more for cakes and frostings!

I use mine (pro series) for bagel dough, cookies, whipped cream, butter cream frosting, etc. I can’t live without it but know if I get 10 years out of it I’m lucky. I considered other options after the second one (also pro series) died but decided to stick with ka.

I'm back from 13 days in Orlando. We had a wonderful time. However, I was dealing with some vertigo and nausea some of the trip. Some of the crystals in my inner ear got displaced and rolling over in bed was making me vomit. Fortunately DF's DIL, who was also on the trip, helped with a maneuver that rearranged things. I'm 2 weeks behind here and now starting to concentrate on our upcoming HI trip. Denial for SW business card :worried:.

For the SWA talk. Our flight Friday the FA were allowing people to hold seats no problem. DH had A21 and I was B 31. There were seats all around me that were held. Window and isle seats in the first 10 rows. People didn’t fill them till c30 and beyond. People complained and the FA didn’t make them move their bags. One lady held 5 seats in the 3rd row. I was really shocked that the seat saving was being allowed. We go on knowing that if DH holds a seat and someone asks he just moves to the next row that has two seats. Most don’t want a middle seat so he typically doesn’t get asked.
We got on once and there were 2 people with 2 1/2 rows “reserved.” It was utterly ridiculous. I really wanted to say, we’ll take that row.

After reading all of this Southwest family boarding talk, I have another question. I have 2 kids, one is 3 and the other will be 6 is a couple of weeks. So, in just over a year, DD5 will not qualify for family boarding anymore. Normally, this won't be an issue. I will be able to board with younger daughter during family boarding, and DH can board with older daughter during regular boarding.

But, once she turns 7, what happens if I fly alone with both girls? Will the gate agents allow one adult and one over-6 child to board during family boarding, or does it have to be 2 adults? Or should I just choose a different airline if flying alone with a 4 and 7 year old where I can pick seats ahead of time?

Idk whether to like your post or not. It sounds like you had a good trip, but I'm sorry that you were denied for the SW card.

I wouldn't think there would be any issues with your then 7 yo being the second "Adult" with the family boarding eligible child. But I don't know that for a fact. My now 6yo turns 7 in a couple of weeks and we plan to do what you are planning for our Spring Break trip to DAL. The then 4 year old and my wife will actually pre-board due to a car seat and older son and I will board wherever we board. If it really goes badly, I'm not above paying for upgraded boarding for the trip back.

Boo! Did the letter say why?

@EACarlson you can preboard with a carseat?
NGL all of this SW boarding silliness is stressing me out. They are our best option for our August trip but we will have a 1 and 2 year old and 2 car seats.

I am so grateful I have never had crystals dislodge while at Disney. I'm glad the maneuver helped, it takes me a few days of maneuvers to get mine back in place.

Sounds like you are just about a year ahead of our family! If you remember, please report back here after the flight. I'd be curious to know how it went. We only started flying Southwest a year ago. Before that, we pretty much always flew Delta or Allegiant. While Southwest has many advantages in terms of flexibility and price, the inability to pay for a seat assignment gives me pause sometimes.

I’ve flown alone a couple of times last year with my 1 year old dd and ds whi was 6, but is the size of a 9 year old. Never had an issue. All 4 of us boarded with family boarding this summer when he was 7. No problem and I don’t feel bad about it. It’s not like I’m going to leave a 7 year old alone to board by himself. And I’m not bring the grandparents, aunts uncles etc.

At islip in August the sw gate agent was walking around telling everyone with a child that appeared to be anything less than 16 that they could board with family boarding. Seriously the girl in front of us was at least 12. And the gate agent specifically told her parents they all qualified for family boarding.

The classic is less than $200. But I thought I read the classic has plastic parts and this has metal parts, making it better?
I have the Classic Plus. It is all metal. But again it is 15+ years old. I am not sure if the new ones are the same. I would go with metal if I had to choose. It has worked out fine for me, even use to knead bread dough. If I ever do need to replace, I'll probably look at the Artisan since it has the 5 Qt bowls. Mine is 4.5 Qt.
I have 2 bowls and 2 paddles.
And are you the one that shared the pretzel bites recipe? Finally made them this week, with a few changes. Used 1/2 whole wheat flour and instant yeast. They are delish although the shaping was weird, I’ll need to work on that. I did manage to ruin my calphalon pan because I didn’t think about the strong base that baking soda is etching the anodized aluminum
Yeah, I started the pretzel craze. Glad you enjoyed them. I have a few left in my freezer so I'll need to make another batch next weekend. With just me and DH at home, I make a batch and freeze most of them and just take out a handful and pop in the toaster oven to warm up and sprinkle with salt. Sorry to hear about the baking soda and your pan. I only have stainless steel pans so I didn't have any problems with the baking soda.

They won't be worried about your 7 year old. They are just trying to stop groups with 10 adults and one child under 6. My last two trips they were emphasizing the 2 adults only.

Oldest DD boards with 2 carseats each time she flies. Kids are now almost 4 and almost 3. She hooks them to the stroller until she gets to the gate, gate checks the double stroller and they all walk on. If no one else is flying with the 3 of them, someone gets roped into going to the gate with her, usually whoever is dropping her off. She buys 3 seats also.

Boo! Did the letter say why?

I didn’t see the letter. I called recon. Unfortunately, the dairy is going through Chapter 12 bankruptcy. Chapter 12 allows farmers and fish farmers to restructure their debt. I was never owner but signed some of the loans while DH owned the farm. The farm has been turned over to DD and her husband a few years ago. TERRIBLE milk prices and high overhead just did them in :sad1:.The cows left about 18 months ago to stop the bleeding. I was able to explain away the Chapter 12 by explaining that I was never owner. However, my new “timeshare rental business” wasn’t showing enough income when there were eyes on the account. I may try HUCA tomorrow morning with hopes that my explanation that I expect much growth in the next year might help. I actually have access to some really nice units. My 2BR unit in HI costs me $560/week. It would cost $600/night if rented from Marriott. If I chicken out from the HUCA, I might just reapply in 30 days with new expectations.

Reading all of these stories makes it highly unlikely that I'm going to be willing to fly with SWA in the future. I'm really glad I fought the FOMO for the CP last week, since it just sounds like something that is not going to work for us.
