Has anyone ever flown on Christmas Day? Advice on it being more/less expensive and more/less crowded?

Just chiming in that DH can get another shot at the 100k MR Biz Plat with a no lifetime language offer. He could also open up different varieties of personal Platinum cards (Ameriprise, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley), subject to some conditions, that each have 60k MR SUBs (the Charles Schwab version was recently targeting clients with a 100k MR offer). Maybe check in with this thread and hold his hand next time.
Good point!

In the scheme of life, not the.most tragic error. And we did get value from the card.

Miami is weird today - streets almost deserted. I guess most people ran around and did errands last week and canceled plans when we were in the middle of the cone. We are, at the moment, out of the cone but Tropical storm watches start about 25 miles from us. We have a rental on a barrier island that is smack in the middle of the most powerful impacts on the mainland :scared: Most people don’t leave here for storms - people leave because of panic about lack of electricity and AC. Now a Cat 5, I’m scared to see what the 5pm update says. My understanding is that the cones are only updated at the 5 and 11 advisories.

Took advantage of the low traffic and redeemed the Saks offer on the Plat so I don’t have to run around at the end of December, took advantage of an AmEx gas offer, made my husband sit and pay attention to my credit card plans for the next couple of months, registered my AmEx to the toll processor for a 10% back offer from AmEx and bought appliances at Brandsmart for 1X Ur for aforementioned apartment . I should have at least gotten a 0% card.

We used to fly Christmas Day all the time. This was pre-kids but in order to please both families we did Christmas Eve in NY with DH's family and then flew on Christmas Day to FL to my parents. (I now wonder why the heck we did that - packing gifts at midnight to make the first flight to FL :confused3) I don't remember much about the price, I would suspect it would be slightly lower as most people would want to be at their destination by Christmas Day. I don't remember it being any more crowded, more surprised that there were more than just us that flew on Christmas Day, but I do remember everyone being really nice to each other and happy to be there.

Thanks! DH and I were discussing Hawaii for next year and maybe flying out on Christmas Day. Even getting closer to the holidays now (how is it Sept 1 already?), there’s still decent award availability and lower prices on AA and United.

I would totally do it. We've talked about how we would like to leave to go on vacation Christmas evening. That way we could enjoy Christmas morning and could still fit in a vacation after Christmas around the school schedule. Unfortunately we have family that thinks thats a travesty - umm Ok, we'll just sit around and stare at each other. :rotfl2:

Since you are in a studio, you have access to a free laundry room although you have to buy the soap.

And, if I'm remembering correctly, the Sunset Savannah means you are near the front of the hotel as opposed to 5 miles up the corridors! Or maybe that's the value studios I'm thinking of.
We most likely won’t need the laundry but that’s good to know.

Our room is right above the lobby. She did a fantastic job giving us something right away since she knew we had the cats.

We're at the swan now. Our flight home is scheduled for 5pm tomorrow night. So far I think we're looking okay still for that. If so, we had preemptively bought some supplies at publix on Friday. If we get out tomorrow, we're going to have a bunch of water, chobani tubs, cold cuts, eggs, cheese, English muffins, among other things. If anyone here is around and wants. Let me know! We'll see what happens. I do have flights booked tues and wed on sw points to ISP just in case (and corresponding rental cars to get us home). But hoping we can get on the united 5pm tomorrow to EWR.
I check in tomorrow afternoon. I think you will be gone already though.

Hi everyone! We set our alarms for 5:30am and checked the weather, decided we were okay pushing our flight out to tonight since there was availability. Were back on a connecting flight, 2 hr layover in Dallas but got 8ish hours of park time. Last thing we did was get to our Ogas reservation #priorities

I would be okay sticking it out but DH had decided after we got to the airport thursday that he really couldn't afford to miss multiple days of work if the airport closed :( we were planning for him to work on Tuesday.

AoA removed our last two nights off the bill this morning. At least that made it easy to decide how to pay? That made our remaining room bill $325 and I had $282 of my CSR credit left

Sooooo anything I need to know about Dallas Love Field? Or somewhere to grab a bite quick between flights? Never been there.

We have 3 Subarus at our house. 😎 We love them! But we also live in snow country and they are great in the winter.
In Chicago, 4WD is very helpful. After getting stuck in my own drive after heavy snow, I decided I will never buy anything but 4WD again, which made Subaru an easy pick. When we purchased my car, all Subarus were AWD. (I think they have a non-AWD sports car now). Sadly last car we just couldn’t afford a Subie and DH got a 4WD Jeep. So far, so good.
I hope everyone here gets to a safe place and this storm decides veer off to sea!
...anddd..... P2 got instant approval on CIP2! :cool1: that was a lot faster than the first app!
ETA it was already in the account page when I looked right after posting this...wow! SM'd asking to expedite.... I hope we get it while the Staples sale is still happening.... is it too soon to request an employee card?(for me) or is that a bad idea since I'll be apping in a few months for #2 (I hope)
Congrats! :cool1::cheer2:
I just took whatever was ready. I asked for a microwave in the standard room first and they said that’s only for medical purposes. We were able to pay $114 total for the 4 nights to get a standard studio. Our view is out to the Sunset Savannah so not bad. The microwave was really what we wanted so we could make food. One cat is exploring and the other is hiding lol
I’m glad you are safe. The studio is better for sure. I’ve never been in one, is there a kitchen besides the microwave?

You can buy the fuel rod phone chargers inside of Epcot.

They are cheap cords though. I couldn't find my ipod cord so I pulled the one from the fuel rod out and connected it to the laptop so I could charge and load stuff and nothing happened. Thankfully I finally thought of what I'd been doing and found the cord and everything was fine. I think they are really only meant to charge, which is fine for the most part. And some resorts have one, I know there's one in the lobby at Pop which I found on my last day once I no longer needed it.

So I got a bit scared as the to the state of MS in my area. I went to the Staples that I've been to many times before now. They let me buy $1k in VGC. They let me 2 do transactions ($400 on my AAviator) ($600 on an Amex). BUT a manager watched her ring me up. The cashier said there has been GC fraud happening. I don't know if they meant from customers, or employees?

Then I rolled over the Walmart where I always load....I picked a register for the first load. The cashier was all up in my business and somehow saw that I was trying to use the VGC (I do a damn good job of hiding it behind a credit card in my wallet and then gripping it so you can't see). I told her I've used this card before as it has a pin. She then argues with me and calls someone over. I was ready to just swipe the card and enter the pin to show her. But someone else came over and told her that I couldn't do it. So I had them cancel and I left.

I drove to the next closer Walmart and proceeded to load the card at Customer Service and then again w/ a cashier. I'll try my closer Walmart tomorrow, and avoid the nosey cashier!

Since I have no MSR right now, I finally sat down and put into my spreadsheet all the other "bonuses" my cards have, like 2x groceries, or a free night w/ $15k. I'm waiting for the Amex pop-up to disappear to add the Hilton Biz to my mix. And then waiting for under 5/24 in Nov for the CIP. Then I'll probably go for the AA Citi personal as I'm really sad my Amex balance is low. I've also thought about if I could clear $10k every MS attempt a month, on an AA card, that is a 1 way flight to my fav location......I know it won't always be an option, and I need to get another Serve card to do $10k, but it eased my anxiety about not being able to ride the grAAvy train....WAAAH!

The Biz Train rolls on... Auto Approval!! (I think the last 2 for my wife went pending so that's awesome!)
CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®
Congratulations, Mrs. SouthFayetteFan.
You've been approved for a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® with an initial credit limit of $20,000.

  • This was done with a Biz Mailer code that "officially" expired in mid-August
  • 75k miles / $5k MSR so I'll get 80k AA miles out of it
  • Today was exactly 95 days from her last approval
  • I cancelled the previous card on 8/4/19
Hopefully the card arrives as normal within about a week. I plan to immediately meet the full MSR via the HELOC/Plastiq method.

JEALOUS! As that was the public offer I tried and failed with. Did you buy the mailer? I think I may have to resort to that if DPs are still showing that biz mailers are working. I guess my "silver lining" is that I DID get the 5k miles, LOL. I mean that's ALMOST a 1 way reduce miles flight.

DH forgot is phone cord (of course). We are gonna go to Epcot here soon to get our magnet and try some food and wine stuff.

Glad the drive was easy and you're making lemonade out of the lemons!

I've never lived in a hurricane zone, so I can't even imagine. Everyone stay safe!

DS's Global Entry was approved. 3 weeks after we all did Enrollment on Arrival (the rest of us was all instant). Letter is dated today, weird to be on a Sunday of a 3 day weekend.... I'm just glad I won't need to follow-up.

It has a kitchen sink, dishes, silverware, a sponge to clean stuff, microwave, and fridge. This is our first time in a studio and I like it a lot
