I know there was a few people that have had family members with various health issues over the past few months? Any updates?

I'm going on the no news ia good news/progresa through things.

Nice of you to remember and ask!

My MIL is still paralyzed from the epidural steroid shot she took for back pain. Lots and lots more issues have arisen now as the nerves are just going nuts :( She's been home since mid-June (happened mid-March). She recently got a motorized wheelchair and some other medical equipment. It's been hard on both her and my FIL, who is 70, and trying to lift her for bathroom stuff. They really aren't receiving much help from the medical community (home health, nurses, etc). It's all been really sad to see :(

The primary purpose is for those doing MS. A secondary purpose can be for people who are stretching to hit an MSR. You can just buy VGCs and then use them on your everyday purchases after the MSR period is over. A 3rd reason could be if you're working on the MSR on a personal card and didn't want to add your spouse as an AU - you could give them VGCs to use for their purchases in lieu of an AU card.

I buy VGC's to pay for things that don't code as a bonus category on any other card - utility company, gas company, doctors bills. I can get 5X UR's on VGC's with my CIC so I look at it as getting 5X on those spends that otherwise would only get me 1.5 UR's on the FUL.

Add the coupon anyway, just in case it gets pulled early.

Reminder that the MCGC are (very likely) Metabanks and process as debit for an only 1% fee on Plastiq.
Yeah, the ones I bought on DH’s account were Metabank. Thanks for the reminder.

Hotels.com email:

We want to let you know we’re making some changes to our loyalty program, Hotels.com® Rewards.
From 11/27/2019, there’ll be a redemption fee of $5 for every reward night1 redeemed; however no redemption fee will apply if reward nights are redeemed using the Hotels.com app.
We’re making this change to cover some of the costs of running the program, so more than 43 million Hotels.com Rewards members can continue to benefit from the program.
So, every time you collect 10 nights, you’ll get 1 reward night. You pay the redemption fee, as well as the usual taxes and fees. Also, remember, you won't have to pay a redemption fee when you redeem on the Hotels.com app.

Ok - here I go... I'm going to lock in the 2nd portion of our split stay. Thanks to @PolyRob for backing up my thoughts earlier! Here's the process of how I analyzed it (what I'm booking is in bold). Also huge thanks to @wendow who has listened to me complain and whine and vent and voice concerns over this trip for MONTHS in a huge giant PM we have here on the DIS.

I have 309k AA miles so I'm ready to go here...

Contemporary Theme Park View: Jan 29 - Feb 1
  • AAvacations - 2 adults = 270,800 miles
  • AAvacations - 2 adults + 2 children = 270,800 miles (no bogus upcharge for the kids - good news!)
  • AAvacations - 11:30pm rental pickup 12:00am rental drop off = 270,800 miles (no savings for trying to get a "2 day throwaway" rental vs the standard 3 day rental
  • UseAAmiles - 2 adults = 292.900 miles
  • UseAAmiles - 2 adults + 2 children = 292.900 miles (no bogus upcharge here either)
  • UseAAmiles - not logged in = 390,500 miles (so I was seeing the best rate possible)
@Andysol and any others that care to chime in - does it make sense to put $10 of this trip on my CSR for some reason? Does that get me something in terms of travel protection? Is $10 the right amount...more/less or does it matter?

Thanks guys!!
Glad you got half of your trip booked! That redemption is much better than purely just cashing out for GC!

And we thought the RAT’s claws were long and sharp? The Mouse is just as ruthless! From someone who was able to take advantage of this morning’s shopDisney 40% off gift cards glitch:

ETA: Calls are coming in about orders getting canceled.
WOW! I can't say that I am shocked. I once got the wrong WDW tickets from ParkSavers and linked them to MDE. I got an e-mail a few hours later that Disney contacted UCT and they were already removed from my account. I still have not received my gift cards so I assumed they were going to get cancelled 😞

I do love my walks from BC and Epcot and DHS! That cannot be overlooked. I can also catch the Skyliner from the IG to Rivera for those ADRs. I should e-mail check on spring "magical" rates.
I emailed my “magical” friend today and she said spring rates weren’t out yet, but let me know if you hear otherwise. Probably going to pass on Labor Day next time

I booked the Delta Vacations deal!

Thanks for everyone who had input. I had decided on Beach Club but when I called again it was not available except for water view and that put the price higher than Grand Floridian. So two nights (as required by package) at GF and then rest of the time with my DVC points. It worked for us since we always fly Delta and would have booked at least 3 of the tickets on miles anyway. (Other 2 would have been companion certificate). The good part of it that I had not anticipated is that it counts as a paid flight so I will get miles on the tickets. Another minor part is that they automatically added frequent flier accounts to D11 and D8. They are always miles or companions so I have never gone to the trouble of getting them accounts.

It is such a good deal that I am now thinking of looking at flights for this summer or for a little weekend trip somewhere without kids.
Yay! Congratulations. I guess you will just have to SUFFER through GF 😂. Glad you were able to take advantage of the great redemption. Fingers crossed the walking path is open for you!

I'm just now getting around to looking at the Delta vacation packages. Seems like a pretty good deal if you haven't flown Delta in 20 years and have Delta miles sitting around like I do :headache: I was too busy to keep up with the chatter when y'all were all discussing this a few days ago. Did we ever get an idea what this means:

"If you cancel your reservation, miles will not be redeposited into your SkyMiles account. The SkyMiles account holder will receive a Delta Vacations voucher for the value of the miles at the time of they were applied to the booking as payment. "

I booked a package today and was told that you can cancel up to 30 days before and it is $200 per person. The amount goes up from there, I booked a package for 3 people and the cancellation fee was $600 up to 30 days prior, then jumps to $900, then well over a $1,000. If you cancel, you get a voucher back for value of the miles minus the cancellation. I ended up buying the insurance for $44 per person since there is a chance we could have to cancel or rebook. It was worth the piece of mind for $132 to not lose most of our 100K miles.

There are some great deal out there. I have wasted lots of time the last few days looking at various vacation scenarios. For us it is a win/win. We can use the miles and get better value while still earning skymiles in the process.

Thank you! The last I heard it was just Pop for random winter and fall dates. I may do that for Festival of the Arts, but need my Epcot resort area for spring.

So sorry about this weekend 😞 That was always one of their best rates!

I'm so sorry your trip is cancelled. We love going in Sept but we've been affected by hurricanes a couple times and had we gone this year for LD, it would have been 3 of 4 years (if I have my dates all right). It's pretty shocking how often there seems to one around this time of year.
