Oh, great information. Thank You! I read the books before the show came out. My poor husband has been a good sport about my Outlander obsession so far. Maybe he will agree to Scotland someday. Realistically probably not for another 5 ish years (just because of kids and other things) but maybe sooner. You never know. For now I will live vicariously and take as many notes as possible.

You’re welcome. DH listened to the series as narrated by Davina Porter. After that he also wanted to visit Scotland. He does watch the show and enjoys it as much as I do.

Outlander aside, Scotland is a stunning country in and of itself. More than once the landscape has moved me to tears. It is just so beautiful. Edinburgh is easy enough to travel hack and churn your way there with points and miles. Visiting other areas on points/miles are a little tougher but do-able with time and good planning. Five years is a good amount of time to plan and get tons of points in place if you choose. If you stick with variable points like UR, MR and TYP add in some travel cash back cards that allow you to wipe off charges and you’ll be prepared for just about any trip.

Here are some pics from just today on the Isle of Lewis to inspire and enjoy. The last photo is to prove I did try going through the stones to find Jamie and it didn’t work.

it was fun! thanks for asking! we did had quite a worrisome trip back though.

That is a cliff hanger. Can you share? On the actual trip, glad you enjoyed. It is an amazing magical place unlike anywhere else. Were you glad you found some in park lodging? Any great wildlife encounters?

But he may have had a mild case at some point and not known it. My sister had it, a bad case. It went around our elementary school as well, and a child in my sister’s class caught it and died. I always wondered why I didn’t get it, turns out I had immunity. My parents probably wouldn’t have known I had it, it was only diagnosed because I was already hospitalized for pneumonia. My mom said I only had a couple lesions.
DD had chicken pox, no vaccine then. I lucked out as it was her week to spend at grandmother's house and my mom had to deal with the recovery. DD didn't show any signs until 1 day after we dropped her off (6 hours away!). After hearing a girl in DD's class was hospitalized as the pox got inside her blood vessels or bones or something (sorry not a medical person and not remembering 25 years ago). I didn't realize it could be that bad. I also came from the time where once a neighbor kid got chicken pox, my mom made them come play with us so me and my sister got it at the same time. Fast forward past DD and when DS was born, they had the vaccine. I made sure he got it.

Those pictures are gorgeous!! I am an Outlander book fan. I just started watching the show on Netflix but I am not that excited about it. I really like the Jamie actor but for some reason am not warming up to the Claire actress....

Your dad may have had it and not known. I was exposed as a 6 month old infant and my parents were told my case was so mild I’d surely get it again. I never did. Turns out my immunity is fine

Did she have to get revaccinated? We were required to if titers were not adequate. Turns out all mine were fine, including for the chicken pox I got but the doctor thought wasn’t enough for immunity. OTOH I have been vaccinated for Hep B multiple times yet still show no immunity. It may be her immune system.

But @striker1064 caught chickenpox ‘in the wild’ and still got shingles as a young person, if I understand correctly. So the opposite of your theory.

We will be there 2nd week in June. I booked Courtyard on Harbor but waiting for the Fairfield to open award nights and will switch for less points.
That sounds great! I don’t have ANY Marriott points so I booked Hyatt. Plus Hyatt has been so good to me with unexpected upgrades and surprises. Hoping they upgrade us to a two queen room as only the king and sofa bed are bookable on points!

I have a pretty ambitious itinerary that I’d like to run by you before I book our flights in three weeks. We are flying into San Diego, Amtrak to Anaheim, bus to Vegas then flying Vegas to San Francisco. Finally flying home to Philly. Points will make the flights free.

Thoughts on my plan? Two nights in each town except three nights in San Francisco.

I’m eyeing some Shun or Miyabi knives this time around. 🔪👨‍🍳🔪

How is everyone else planning to spend their Saks credit?
Either 1) save it and use it toward my mom's Christmas gift (siblings and I usually go in on a David Yurman piece), 2) buy another gift card and use it for some rose gold huggies at Off Fifth (I have no decent jewelry since almost everything I had was from my ex), or 3) use it for a Christopher Radko Christmas ornament for myself.

we found a bump on the tire on our 3rd day. Google says not to drive on it too much but we were in Yellowstone at that point. was a 6 hour drive back. We decided to wing it back because Audi roadside would of taken 2 hours to get to us in West Yellowstone, and we werent about to drive 50mph(donut spare) on a 80mph highway. we made it back safely though but it was quite a nerve racking drive.
We were def glad to have stayed in park lodging. we actually went to the grand canyon twice because the first day we went, it was cloudy. for some reasons, morning was always sunny and the canyon was so much prettier with sunlight. we also caught the first burst of Old Faithful, had plenty of room to move around... we walked up to the upper basin afterwards, we came back just in time for another burst and wow, sooooo muuuuuch pppppl! glad we were so close! Wildlife, we just missed seeing wolves, but saw everything else... was hoping for a Bison to just stop in the road but that didnt happen :( lol

Thank you! I didn’t bring a camera this trip so those are all taken with my iPhone.

I like Sam Heughan (Jamie) too. I think he has done a great job with what little script and character development they have given him. I have major issues with much of the show. The books are so much better and the show changes things that have no need to be changed. I try to keep the rage down to a minimum and just enjoy the fact that it is being adapted for tv.

I read the first Outlander book and wasn't a huge fan. Watched about an episode and a half of the series haha, but I will admit that Sam Heughan is very attractive. But hilariously, my 60 year old, very conservative, straight laced boss started watching it recently and loves it :rotfl2: He told me it could be "quite ribald" but he still likes it
