Looking for some thoughts about one more (maybe last, probably second-to-last) AmEx business card. I have or had all of the MR-earning business cards (unless there are some hidden ones, like Ameriprise, but I think those are all personal cards?). I also have thus far avoided the pop-up but I am going to be cancelling at least two cards before the end of the year and I suspect that might earn me a pop-up. So, before cancelling (and while I have tuition spend coming up) I'm looking at getting one more business card (I will be under 5/24 in November and right now a CIP is way more attractive than another AmEx personal card).

My problem is that I cannot get the increased Delta Gold Biz offer to show up through any of my referral links. I would get 20,000 MRs if I could refer through my Gold Biz or 15,000 through my Biz Plat. Both of these get me an offer for 30,000 skymiles :(

I could forgo the referral MRs and get 60,000 skymiles, or I could go for the Hilton Biz now and see if I eventually get the increased skymiles offer on a referral link (of course by then I could be in pop-up territory). I've already had the Marriott business card (and have as a keeper the simply cash plus) and none of the other AmEx business cards seem worth the AF/spend requirements. I guess I could also get the Plum card solely for the referral MRs.

Any thoughts? I'm leaning toward the Hilton Biz -- the SUB is 125,000, which from Doc's spreadsheet seems to be a recent high offer.
The increased DL offers only show up if you hold a DL card and generate a link though a specific link. This means you can only get 12.5k DL miles as a referral bonus since it can only come from a DL card. DoC discussion and link to use to generate higher offers are here.

Waiting in the MCO PP Lounge since our SW flight is now delayed until 10:45 pm. In the meantime, I called the Fairfield Inn to let them know we wouldn’t be there until 1 am or so in hopes they would not give up our room since we will definitely not want to make the hour drive home.

Just called, entered the last 4 digits of the card and my zip code. Seems like there is a legit card, but I didn't zero out to speak to a rep (don't want to draw any attention to my account).

Any idea when this card will arrive? We leave the country for 6 weeks on Friday and I'd love to have before we leave!
Mine usually take about a week to arrive...if you need it by Friday I’d sm and ask to have it expedited

Hope you don’t mind me asking a question. I am new to Amex and MRs. I only have Amex gold. Is it possible to call and apply MRs on the gold if I purchase southwest flight with it?

This is what Amex says to do to use MR points to book Southwest flights:

Redeeming points with Southwest Air

To redeem your Membership Reward® points for Southwest Airline tickets, book your ticket directly with them and then redeem your points after the charge posts. You can do this via Your Charges or through the American Express app on your mobile device. You can schedule a point redemption for eligible pending charges through the American Express Mobile app. You must have enough Membership Rewards points to cover the entire cost with Your Charges.

I don’t see why this wouldn’t work with the Amex Gold. Before you do this, you may want to confirm with Amex Travel at 1-800-297-2977 that you’ll be Paying with Points toward the Southwest charge at 1 cpp value because, typically, redeeming points towards statement charges is at only a 0.6 cpp value.

Note, to get the additional benefit of the 35% rebate of your MR points redeemed towards the Southwest charge, you need an Amex Business Platinum card and have Southwest selected as your airline of choice for reimbursements. With a $595 AF, it may not be the best way to achieve a 1.54 cpp redemption.

ETA: Here’s an old MMS article about the process.

couldnt u check in now on your marriott app with a arrival time?

Finally got the Amazon 20% off with an MR point to work! Out of 3 accounts I’ve been trying everyday and none of them worked. This afternoon they all worked! I did unlink all MR redeem with points the day after the offer came out and immediate re-linked it, no idea if that had anything to do with it suddenly working.

Is the Delta 75k offer gone now? I closed my personal Delta Gold to snag the Biz gold offer of 75K. How many Amex spots do you have open? I plan on closing my SPG Biz when my renewal hits, and I'll use that spot for the Hilton Biz (I have the Ascend and Aspire too). Right now I have to juggle my cards as all my Amex slots are filled. If you've got time to play and no real need for the skymiles, maybe wait until you can get a higher offer?

I actually haven't looked too hard for what Delta Gold Biz offer I could get from a public link--right now, the AmEx site is showing me 70,000 skymiles plus a $50 statement credit. I only have one credit card slot open although that's not really a problem at the moment because I only likely can swing the MSR on one more card before I start cancelling cards. I do think I am going to wait on the Delta card to see if AmEx makes the higher offer available through a referral link. The real question is whether I should just go for the Hilton Biz even though I have no immediate need for Hilton points either.

It's definitely a juggling act with AmEx!

Thanks--apparently I missed a small window when it was possible to generate a referral link with the higher offer from a card other than a DL card. DoC does say that the Gold Biz is not an especially high or unusual offer so that makes me feel slightly better about waiting.

Awesome! Finally worked for me too!

:offtopic: Need help picking a spot in Colorado to spend a few days at the end of August. Have a work conference for 2 days in Denver. Looking for somewhere to spend the rest of the week. Want to look at mountains! a few easy hikes, other outdoor activities, general restful trip. Only requirement is that there is a Marriott to use my free night cert!

Right now in the mix is Breckenridge and Glenwood Springs. There are other nice places but they don't have any Marriotts o_O

Tagging @wendow @amalone1013 I know there are more CO peeps on here but sorry I don't remember exactly who. If only I had @Lain 's spreadsheet. :-)

I don't live in CO but we go out about once a year. My first thought is Estes Park but the hotel options are limited there and I'm not sure if there is a Marriott option. Breckenridge is an easy drive from Denver and has plenty to do and options to stay at. Another option might be to drive down to CO Springs and stop by Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak.

I am not complaining but we have been so off topic so much lately that I wish we had an on topic emoji. Critical questions and I can’t decide. :)

DH just told me he has a an almost $2000 purchase he wants to make ASAP. We applied for his last CIP #2 April 2. Close enough?

Also, his other Chase business cards have all been with his name and then business name. They have never asked for any verification for the business...I put it as business before I knew better 2 years ago. You all think just stick with what works and put the same business name again?

He is presently holding one CIP (one had since April), CIC and CIU which are about a year old. Card levels low. Should I wait until Monday or just go for it?

Final question: is it $600 and then over that you will be taxed or is it under $600? Right now I am at $400 in referrals. Trying to decide if I should use my CIP referral or have him self refer. (He only has $200 worth).

Thanks!

I was just totaling our 10 day Orlando vacation, OOP would have cost us about $5005 with airfare, hotels and rental car. Using URs, RRs + CP and Marriott points and 35k free night cert, we only paid $593. I could have burned Marriott points to get us free nights at the Renaissance at SeaWorld but given that it only cost us $560 with resort fees and parking that seemed like a better option than to blow 105k points. Best part, we had an awesome vacation!

Congratulations!

DW’s last CIP was approved on a Sunday night, arrived on a Tuesday 9 days later. I’d say 7-10 days after approval is pretty typical.

If you want it before Friday, you’ll have to ask for it to be expedited.

Thanks for the advice! I called a little while ago and they are going to expedite the card (she said I'd have in 1-2 business days)! I am beyond excited that I will have another 100,000 URs coming my way (self-referral)!

Not that I'd try again, but with my 1st CIP coming due for renewal in September, has anyone gone for #4? I'd of course cancel #1 before going for #4 (if I decided to go that route).

I applied for my dh's second CIP after 2 1/2 months, didn't wait the 95 days because he had a big purchase to make. He was approved 12 hours later for 2nd CIP and we got it expedited and received it within a few days. This was around a month ago.

I would think close enough...but even if he is auto approved and you asked to have the card expedited.....it probably would not be shipped until Monday/Tuesday ..

As far as what to put for the business name...I really don’t know since I have only applied with my name...

When you hit the $600 even they will send you a 1099

Broke down and bought the Tiki Room spirit jersey.

We got thrown a curve ball for the end of the trip. Seriously, so many dropped balls in the situation we could fill a McDonalds ball pit. Will have to go into more detail when we are home. I havent even tracked what weve spent, just made sure DH swiped his Platinum for everything. Just glad we have the cushion to not worry about it. It wont even effect our car payoff.

Reading about the CBD oil... recently DHs aunt bought a cream with it for DHs grandpa, he used it for 2-3 days liking it until he swore he was seeing giant red spots and refused to use it anymore. He didnt know what was in it. We got a good laugh out of it!

Made it to 1755. DH just encouraged me to buy wifi on the plane tomorrow to catch up

10 mins to Happily Ever After!

thanks- I saw that one in celebration- it looks interesting! I'm having a first world problem.... I have the 35k night, but most of the properties that appeal to me are cat4.... free breakfast, free parking. oh,what to do? It's like (to me) having the dining plan and trying to max out using it to make it a better value lol..... I'll likely pick a Residence inn or Springhill b/c my guys value a free breakfast over most other things..... (I know I know but it's their thing!)
If the hotel rack rate is more than $95 then you come out ahead. Book what works best for your family. Plus an included breakfast can add a lot of value.
I tried to apply for the Hilton Biz today and got the pop-up again. I thought I'd be in the clear since I'm targeted to upgrade my Biz Green to the Biz Plat, but I guess not. Since DH and I are both now getting the Amex pop-ups, we (I) decided to apply him for the Hyatt card instead. Auto-approved and used a Dischurners link!
Ugh the pop up is the worst. DH can’t get out of it. He was targeted to upgrade his green card too. I’m half tempted to take the upgrade to see if that helps the situation, but it’s a big MSR to take on for a gamble
