My friends, As I sit in the Neptuno lounge at MAD, full of delicious food and sipping on scotch, I am thinking of this group. I would quite literally not be here without you. We land in JFK this evening and will be staying at the TWA hotel (total last minute decision but I’m glad we made the reservation). I will be posting some points/ travel related things here and on the hotel thread when I get home but just wanted to say thanks for all of the advice. We have had an amazing trip!

When we have cash in hand for deposit, I typically go and pay my BoA CC at the ATM. If I have a credit balance, they will just send a refund or I can transfer it to a 529 account. I can make an ATM deposit with Navy Federal, but the closet ATM to take the deposit is over an hour away. If I need cash, Discover cc does the trick at the grocery store or Walmart.
you can get cash back at the store when paying with Discover?

I'd be interested to hear a review of The Wave when you get back. I keep seeing really good reviews but nothing on the menu ever really jumps out at me. I ate at Whispering Canyon a super long time ago (back when I was a teenager). Always really liked it then!

As I was complaining about my seriously first world problem at the lunch table today, one of my coworkers told me that I should try to go to the Olympics the week before, as often there are some minor qualifying events and obviously a lot of athletes are arriving ahead of time.
We were just there for a WEEK...kept meaning to go to the Wave b/c we LOVE it there....and somehow managed to never get there! I don't know how that happened!

I'm good on the gym stuff, I go 3 to 5 days a week because I go to the chiropractor every other week so that limits it every other week.

I'm sure you know but it's all about what you eat the night before a long run. If I don't fuel well the day before I'll have the same problem but I know what I've done and try to eat normally mind over stomach because it won't go away until the next day. Totally sucks though.

Yep. It's hard for me to run every day back to back now too. I usually have to take a day off in between - more so for my back than my legs (although they get burned out faster for sure. Aging sucks).

I go to a chiro every 3 weeks for traction. I feel you. We might be the same person, lol.

PSA to my fellow Bay Area DISchurners:

SFO is opening the new Harvey Milk Terminal 1 and the Grand Hyatt at SFO in late July, and they're hosting a FREE COMMUNITY DAY on July 20, 2019 to offer the public a sneak peek before it opens. This will be the new home for Southwest and JetBlue flights. There will be games, activities, live entertainment, and chances to win free prizes, including round-trip plane tickets and more. Time-specific tickets from 12 p.m. through 4 p.m. are required, but registration is free at Eventbrite. Just follow the links:

https://www.flysfo.com/GrandOpenings

What a great way to honor Harvey and his legacy!

I haven’t been able to run for about 2 years now and it sucks. I absolutely love running and not being able to makes me sad. I have tendonitis and problems with my IT bands. I did physical therapy but saw no progress and it was very expensive so I quit.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do with the old Marriott card? This is the one that had the get a night credit with every $3000 in spend and only a 25000 point cert. My DH's card is 2 years old and the AF was charged on 6/1. Are there upgrade offers still or should we just cancel? His only other Bonblah card at the moment is the SPG biz.

My CIP 2 points hit today. Transferred to CSR and bought three 3-day PTP UO tickets. Still have 180,000 UR left.

I thought someone said you could take the vouchers (even though the printout from UR both calls it a voucher and says, "This is not a voucher!!") to the hotel (we are staying at RPR and get them turned into tickets. Is this correct.

May end up upgrading these to APs if I can convince my kids to do UO instead of WDW next August pre-cruise. I'm over WDW!

I did this last year at Portofino.......took about 5 minutes to get our tickets.

Interesting the talk about getting healthy...I decided 3 weeks ago to start making an effort. I am 6'4" so it helps to hide my beer belly a bit but have stopped drinking mid week, started excising at work, and changing what I eat mid week. While I still consider what I do on the weekends I can't fully commit to being healthy Friday through Sunday. Either way have seen some nice progress 3 weeks in.

And in CC news my mortgage successfully posted with a Plastiq payment and now my spend in complete on Barclays Aviator Biz.

I have had luck with intermittent fasting. I did 14 hours of fasting. I would love to take off 5-10 pounds. My issue is a love sweets and will eat four desserts. I tried sweet defeat and that does help me. 90-120 minutes of cardio/day 7 days a week is my norm and I do have decent genes.

In sad news, our office dog is being put down today. It’s a small office and I’ve worked with him for 8 years. The last two weeks have been really tough.

I feel you on all of the above. Sorry about the dog, especially. My coworker's service dog had to be put down several years ago and it was terrible. Office dogs get a lot of love from a lot of people, so I'm sure he'll be very missed.

Not sure what sweet defeat but I've successfully replaced chocolate/sweets with a daily apple. Gets me the taste I want and I don't miss the rest. Though there's been a few days I would have loved a mini milky way but you can't get just 1 small one which is a shame.

On the fitness conversation, I have always tried to follow this saying I came across quite a few years ago. "You CANNOT out train a bad diet." I saw a video that depicted the saying perfectly. There were 2 guys standing by a treadmill. One guy got on the treadmill and started to run. He would count off the number of calories the treadmill said he had burned as he ran. As he was running, the other guy was standing next to him eating pizza and drinking a soda. As he finished eating each slice, and drinking the soda, he called out the number of calories he had taken in. The guy on the treadmill was sprinting his butt off and after a few minutes, he had burned about 100 calories. In the same time frame, the guy eating pizza and drinking the soda had consumed about 900 calories. It was a very eye opening video to watch.

One of the biggest things I see when people start to work out to get in shape is that many fear weight lifting. And when I talk about weight lifting, I am referring to lifting heavy weight. There is a very big misconception about it. Many people who say they lift weights will lift very light weights and do a lot of reps to "tone up". Many will say that they don't want to get too muscular, especially women. They are afraid of looking like bodybuilders and I totally understand that. Most people do not know what lengths those bodybuilders go through to look like that. Many take performance enhancing drugs, or they have been lifting super heavy for the past 20 years, and eating 4000 or more calories a day to help pack on lots of muscle. Pound for pound, muscle will always out perform fat in terms of caloric burn. With the right amount of heavy weight lifting, cardio, and a good, clean eating diet, you may never see the number on the scale change. What you will see is that your clothes will fit a little looser, certain parts of your body will look smaller, but the number on the scale is the same. You took off many inches of fat, and replaced it with some lean muscle mass.

I will be the first to admit, I love to eat sweets. Chocolate, cake, ice cream, you name it. I will never pass a churro stand at Disney without buying one. The best balance is to eat in moderation. If you totally restrict what you eat, you will always crave what you "cannot" have. When you do that, you will always fall off the wagon. If you do fall off the wagon and have a bad meal, or even a bad day, don't beat yourself up over it. Start fresh the next day and move on. What is in the past is in the past, move forward.

Anyone have experience with the Premium SUV category with Alamo (this will be out of SFO)? There are 6 of us with luggage (4 adults, 2 kids) and it lists a Suburban or similar that seats 8 with 7 pieces of luggage. It was cheaper than the minivan and I think could be better for touring Yosemite (although minivans can go pretty much anywhere but this would have better clearance). I went ahead and kept both bookings for now (no penalty, even if we don’t cancel). We booked through Costco.

I'm cursed! Checking my emails today I had one that said my discover account was overdrawn. I'm like ***? I logged in to find that someone had stolen $5k. Good thing I didn't have my $30k balance in there! I'm SICK of getting hacked! My hilton account twice, my IHG card, my Aspire card and now my discover savings. ***! So PSA of the day, check EVERYTHING! Now onto changing ALL of my account info and logins!
