FYI - I think you are actually referencing nonstop flights. I've seen this mistake made here a lot lately (by lots of folks) so I figured I'd share a quick comment:
  • A nonstop flight: Means a flight directly from one airport to your final destination without stopping (this is obviously your fastest option)
  • A direct flight: Typically implies a flight that stops 1 or more times before reaching your final destination BUT you do not change planes and you have 1 flight number (not changing planes means you won't miss any connections since your plane IS the connection but it will take longer than a nonstop due to the stop)
Both are preferable to a flight with a plane change BUT they do mean different things. I figured I'd set the record straight since we all want to sound like educated travel hackers here :)

Thank you! I've thought about posting this so many times because of how often it's used wrong. Plus in the grand scheme there's really not that many direct flights and people generally mean non stop. HUGE pet peeve of mine because they are nowhere near the same.

I had no idea. You learn something new everyday.

Thanks for correcting me! I understand because I’m a nazi when it comes to grammar and spelling.
Haha. That ALSO drives me crazy. Especially Your vs You’re and There, Their, and They’re. It’s time for a meme...

Thank you so much for sharing! This is certainly not off topic. It is simply ah mazing! And inspiring! I have enough points to do this trip and I'm pretty tempted. It's all my faves, sand, water, animals and birds, free food, lol!

And I had to google, but I was pretty sure I remembered the Thompson's Gazelle from AK.

@calypso726 AMAZING pics! Thanks so much for sharing. I'll never be able to visit Dubai so I'm living vicariously through you!

You are very welcome! DH said at dinner today that this was the best use of points yet and would be hard to top. Dubai and the Al Maha were never on the bucket list. They were just simply convenient to do because of the SPG/Marriott merger timing and happens to be en route to the Maldives. We are literally here because of a TPG article ... I know, I know ... but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

DH says he is bracing himself because he fears this part of the trip is going to blow away his bucket list overwater bungalows on the second half of the trip.

In all of of our churning years we have only transferred UR points to a hotel once and that was for the Park Hyatt Tokyo recently. 60k points instead of over $2,000 is an awesome return. DH is already talking about coming back here and transferring UR points to Marriott to make it happen.

I can't remember who asked about motion sickness on the Amtrak Acela recently, but I wanted to share I DID have trouble with it this weekend. It's been years since we'd ridden the Acela. We had always ridden the regular Northeast Regional WAS-NYP and that doesn't give me any problems, but about an hour into the Acela ride I needed a Dramamine. I was actually doing ok until I had to go use the restroom, and moving around seemed to do me in. On the way back I just took a Dramamine before boarding to avoid problems. The Acela is noticably bumpier and rockier than any other Amtrak train I've ridden, so that has to be the culprit. I guess it's because the high-speed rail shares the same track as the regular trains. I think I read the upcoming Acela II will be faster and have it's own new track, so hopefully that helps.

Otherwise, the Kimpton Ink48 was a gem - loved it! Super quiet area in Hell's Kitchen a block away from the river. Not much in immediate walking distance other than Gotham West Market, but only a 10 minute walk to Kinky Boots. DW wasn't feeling well yesterday so we spent the entire afternoon and evening in the hotel room, and it was really wonderful. Anyone going to NYC that still has an unrestricted IHG free night, check it out.

No rubber duckies in the room, I'm afraid. That's not Kimpton. Or if it is Kimpton, I'm about to have a very interesting call with the hotel...

I'll update the hotel thread with a few pictures later.

I want to add definitely and defiantly. Drives me batty.
I agree BUT I think that’s more a symptom of autocorrect and our awesome smartphones (and lack of proofreading) than actual misuse.

How about “could of”, “should of”, and “would of” as opposed to their grammatically correct contraction counterparts.

Update to the update:
Dh got on his plane just fine. He has a middle seat...yuck. He said the guy next to him is taking up both arm rests and has his legs spread out too far. He also said the person on his other side hasn’t showed up.

He must be having a weird experience because he told me to remind him to tell me about the 2 crazy people he encountered lol. He also said some lady in line to get on the plane kept saying boom.

This is an absolutely amazing experience! I’m going to say this post isn’t off topic simply because it is something one can do via churning. The Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa was booked with Bonvoy points which I now appreciate a little more because of where we are and what we are doing. The resort is all inclusive so we are paying zero dollars for food and activities of which we get 2 per day. While we booked when it was still 60k per night, I’d consider this place worth the current 85k per night and would even transfer UR points to Marriott to do it again.

We woke up this little guy right outside the door. They are everywhere on the Reserve and not afraid of people.

This morning we attended a falconry demonstration which was really cool.

Duckie enjoyed the scenery and contemplated the private pool outside of our balcony.

Then we went for a sunset camel ride complete with sundowner.

I’m sensing diametrically contrasting themes in your desert and ice vacations, but both epic and apparently full of wildlife. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

Good to know about the Kimpton, puts IHG on the map for me in NYC.

You probably missed my post but from researching a teeny bit last night it seems the duckies are just an SF thing and in thr mini bar if still offered.
