Hi and Welcome
It looks like your 5/24 right now...with one card dropping off in June...4/24 and another in August
So you can’t apply for the CIP or any Chase card now.....once your at 4/24 you can apply for it.
If your going to apply for a card now...I’d suggest a Amex business card since it wouldn’t affect your 5/24 stats
If that Gold is from 2/19 like it says, there is no way that is on their CR yet. Amex is almost always the second statement cut after opening.

I’ll give you a “Like” since you posted this here; but if you make the mistake of reposting this story on r/churning, I’ll downvote you. And the downvote brigade will too.

May I ask what are the repercussions on r/churning if you get downvoted?

I somehow think @amalone1013 does it just to aggravate the r/churning crowd.

So I'm intrigued by all of the second CIPs. My anniversary of CIP is this month. Trying to decide my next step.
Recent cards:
SW priority 11/18
SW Biz 10/18
Cap One spark 11/18
Barclay aviator biz 8/18
Spg biz 3/18
CIP 3/18
Marriott personal 4/17 (cancelled)

As of April 1, I'll be 3/24 by my count including the Spark. No MSR currently with some big expenses coming up: taxes, insurance, HOA.....
Thinking of another UR earning business card. Should I PC my current CIP to a CIC, then apply for a new CIP with P2 referral? Any other recommendations?

You lose precious internet points called “karma.”

There are some things like posting support links that require a certain level of karma.

But really it’s more for bragging rights.

All,

I’ve spent the past week reading the original board. You all rock! I made it up to page 185 and wanted to move on over here to check out the recent news. Thank you for all of your stories and advice. Like many of you, I wish I’d read this before I recently upgraded and got some new cards. I got hooked into this hobby by staying at the Hotel Indigo in Anaheim and getting the IHG Select card years ago. I then got the CSR and paid for our wedding in Cancun with the card and used the points for our honeymoon in Europe. I now see that I didn’t necessarily make the best use of the points as I directly utilized the UR portal as opposed to travel partners. Anyways, here’s what I have and here’s some questions I have about the best new cards to utilize for my future travel:

2019:
Feb - Amex Gold
Feb - Freedom
Feb - Upgraded to Southwest Priority from Premier - no bonus :( - had the prior card for 8 years and have never canceled it and got the bonus again - that’s a learning experience

2018:
June - Amex Platinum

2017:
August - DiscoverIt
June - Freedom Unlimited

2016:
Feb - CSR
June - IHG Select

Smith’s is our local grocery store and next month they stop accepting Visa credit cards so that’s why I got the Amex Gold. I then plan on using the Freedom @ Costco during the rotating quarter. I alternate CSR and Amex Gold for restaurants. Amex Platinum and CSR are then both used for booking travel. Freedom Unlimited is for everything else.

I live in Vegas, if you can’t tell by my name so Southwest is the primary airline I fly. Here are some questions I have;

1) Now that I’ve missed out on the bonus for the personal Southwest premier card for this year does it make sense to go ahead and try for the Southwest business now so I can go for CP again in 2 years?

2) Or is there potentially more value in going for CIP as opposed to a Southwest business card? We’ve got a newborn so I don’t anticipate traveling to WDW for at least a year or two. Southwest and Frontier are the only airlines flying nonstop from Vegas to MCO that I’m aware of.

3) Hotel wise we’re all over the place but I utilize the IHG Select frequently. This fall we’re going on a Viking River Cruise. I’ve already got a room in Amsterdam taken care of via IHG but I haven’t done so in Basel. With the current offer on Marriott Bonvoy I’m debating going for that. Make sense? Although I’m not intrigued with the Radisson Rewards card based on @calypso726’s experience in Europe. Although I haven’t read enough to determine if the new Club Carlson card is a good deal. What do you think?

4) Domestic flying I have a bit of a condrum. I fly to Maine and Kentucky each 1-2x a year, and California at least 4x a year. Southwest goes to all destinations but I’m intrigued with springing for 1st class. I could fly to Cincinnati via Delta in 1st to get to Kentucky and occasionally to California via delta. With respect to Maine, Skyscanner says our best option is American Airlines or Southwest. It seems to me based on my various destinations, going for the CP with SW is the best bet. Do you recommend any alternative card for domestic travel or another card for international travel?

5) My wife is an AU on the Amex Gold, CSR and Freedom Unlimited. She also has her own Southwest card. I suppose I could have her cancel her card and order Southwest and the business card for her? The difficulty is that we made her an AU on three cards this year.

Thanks! I look forward to joining the discussion!

Welcome to the thread!

As @palhockeymomof2 and @WVMomof3 pointed out, you're 5/24, and won't be under that until June passes, so no Chase cards for you until then. If you know to the day in June that you applied then you could apply after that day, technically, but I like to play it safe and wait til the beginning of the following month.

1) If you want the SW CP, you'd do well to wait until Oct/Nov to apply for the SW Biz and a personal SW card (make sure to cancel your existing Priority card beforehand). The order is important, get the SW Biz card first since it won't count against your 5/24 status.

2) There's good value in going for the CIP after June. You can bank the UR points now for future transfers over to SW, for use ideally after you get a SW CP. And it won't count toward your 5/24 status.

3) Hotel cards are definitely a homework problem. You need to look at your destinations, what hotel chain is in the area you'd like to stay, how many points are required for an award night, are there blackout days that keep you from finding space, etc. The new Bonvoy program has a lot of flaws, including making you prepay cash for a future points reservation (in some cases), for giggles check out the bonvoyed .com website. The Radisson Rewards card is ok (and I have it sock drawered), but for me I'd ignore it until you've gotten all the Chase cards you want first. Probably the most compelling hotel card right now is the Amex Hilton Aspire if you can maximize its credits.

4) A SW CP is probably the best financially for your domestic flying. I've only ever flown first class domestically once (AA, JFK-DEN, 4 hours) and it was not something I'd pay extra money or points for on such a short trip but that's me. In my case, that segment was part of a Business Saaver fare I got coming home from Venice, and I wanted the lie flat seats TATL. The AA credit cards have gotten a lot of attention here lately due to the ability to book WDW hotels, so if that's up your alley you could check those out.

5) If those three cards listed are the ones you made her AU on this year, then her current AU CSR doesn't count against her current x/24 status, and after June the AU CFU will fall off too. When did she get her SW card? Could you clarify the #cards/24 for her?

If you're jonesing for a card to apply for now, stick to business cards, and I would strongly suggest the Amex Blue Business Plus (BBP). You can self refer to it and get the extra MRs. Are you getting good value out of your Plat? The BBP earns 2xMR on everything up to $50K/yr so between that and the Amex Gold I'd be hard-pressed to keep a $550 Plat after the 1st year unless you are getting your money back out of it.

So my suggestions with the info you provided are -
AX BBP now self or cross referred
CIP for you in July
SW Biz for you in Oct
SW Personal in Nov

For your DW
AX BBP now self or cross referred
CIP for her when she's under 5/24, referred by you (or vice versa if she falls under 5/24 first)
You don't both need a SW CP - pick for whom it makes the most sense to have the CP under their name and go with that.

Out of this world! So cool!! Can't wait to see the rest of this experience!

This is an absolutely amazing experience! I’m going to say this post isn’t off topic simply because it is something one can do via churning. The Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa was booked with Bonvoy points which I now appreciate a little more because of where we are and what we are doing. The resort is all inclusive so we are paying zero dollars for food and activities of which we get 2 per day. While we booked when it was still 60k per night, I’d consider this place worth the current 85k per night and would even transfer UR points to Marriott to do it again.

We woke up this little guy right outside the door. They are everywhere on the Reserve and not afraid of people.

This morning we attended a falconry demonstration which was really cool.

Duckie enjoyed the scenery and contemplated the private pool outside of our balcony.

Then we went for a sunset camel ride complete with sundowner.

Thank you so much for sharing! This is certainly not off topic. It is simply ah mazing! And inspiring! I have enough points to do this trip and I'm pretty tempted. It's all my faves, sand, water, animals and birds, free food, lol!

And I had to google, but I was pretty sure I remembered the Thompson's Gazelle from AK.
