I received an email from Frontier today regarding a flight status change.

They totally dropped Tuesday and Wednesday flights out of our local airport for summer. (We're booked roundtrip for Tuesday-Tuesday.) I called the phone number provided, where I was met with a message that they are experiencing long hold times--call back if you're not flying in the next 24 hours.

Ugh---no great possibilities for me with this one. The flights were a fantastic deal. I have our room booked with a military rate, all dining booked, and the closest airport is St. Louis or Chicago, but I'd have to drive 3 hours to either of them, and I'll have to pay for parking. :( Boo!

I'm lucky that it's not until June, but seriously so disappointed that this is going to be a pain for less convenience.
Frontier did the same thing to me and cancelled my direct flight...but they did give me an alternative flight MSP-DEN-MCO. Needless to say I passed on that one.

I hope you find something that works.

Has anyone SM'ed Barclay through the biz site? I sent them one asking for a match two days ago. Checked last night and it said it was 'pending'. Tonight it's just gone. No pending or denied or anything :confused3

I sent them an SM request yesterday - still shows pending. I am sure I read someone posted a few days ago that they received no response from Barclays but the extra 10k miles just showed up in the account. So I guess we just have to hope.

Wanted to post an update on our WDW trip. So after a fabulous trip, we received a message from JetBlue that our 10:00pm flight to Newark was cancelled due to the crazy snowstorm that happened on Sunday. Fortunately they put us on an earlier flight and Disney was wonderful getting us on a magical express that was 2 hours earlier. JetBlue even upgraded us to an even more space seat upfront!
I can’t even imagine what would’ve happened if we had booked on spirit on frontier , airlines that have only a few flights and planes.

I will stick with Southwest and JetBlue when dealing with the LCC airlines.

@Lain the 6500 Starbucks Visa deal is now publicly available! Better sign up fast!

You know, I keep thinking that this isn't a bad deal if you can redeem all 52 free items for sandwiches or protein bowls you'd get from the SUB before the upcoming devaluation.

The MSR is only $500 in 3 months. 6,500 stars are worth 52 drinks or food items under the current program. Since you also earn another 250 stars when using the Starbucks Visa card to load your Starbucks card in the app for the first time, that could mean another 2 free rewards. If you reload your app with $500, you've met MSR and get 54 rewards. Sandwiches average $7.50 and protein bowls go for about $9.50. Even assuming an average redemption of only $8 (because sandwiches will probably freeze better than protein bowls), that's $432 worth of food for $500 spend, which you've just sunk into more Starbucks. That's almost a 50% discount on Starbucks!

The problems I see are whether the stars will post in time before the devaluation, because the math only works if you maximize the value of your redemption of those 125 stars before Starbucks moves to variable pricing. There's the issue of 5/24 too, since this card is subject to the 5/24 rule that will exclude potential applicants and will add to one's 5/24 that will deter others. Not to mention, this is a terrible card to pick up unless you really, really, really love Starbucks and don't mind eating frozen sandwiches for the next 2-3 months!

(Please do not take this post seriously. I will not be held responsible for anyone wasting a 5/24 slot by applying for this card.)

So yesterday was not a great day...my dear dog1 (the bulldog who looks a lot like my avatar) has a torn ACL and her surgery (if she gets it--DH is being so weird:sad1:) will be about $4500 (est). Insult to injury-the vet specialist does not take Amex. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

So a 4 figure surgery (during which my beloved pet might die since she has a pretty significant cardiac condition) without making Amex happy? Lose/lose/lose. That's my reality right now. I'm so mad at Chase for not approving DH's CIP right now--and worried sick about my furry child.

It’s a stretch for us but here’s my strategy:
  • Obviously our regular organic spend
  • Meet MSR and pay ahead on my cable for the year with CIC for 5x URs
  • County property taxes are due (only $375 though)
  • Annual homeowners will be due soon
  • 6mo Auto insurance will be due soon
  • Previously paid 6mo ahead on all utilities. Can pay the remainder of the year in a couple months.
  • Will owe something on federal, state, and local taxes.
That should all take care of $8k-$9k of the spend. The rest could be handled with buying some gift cards or some other expenses that I can’t anticipate at this point. It’s definitely the max of where I’d want to be on total MSR as I’m not one to do MS either.

Thanks for posting that breakdown. I'm always looking for ways to capture more spend for cards. Too many of my expenses don't accept credit cards.
  • Mortgage doesn't accept CC
  • Auto lease ditto
  • Business copier ditto
  • I have my home insurance and taxes escrowed, but I could stop that and pay via CC I think.
  • I forgot about auto insurance, I need to move that from ECH to CC.
  • You can pay year end taxes via CC? Is there a fee?
  • I mentioned private school, bad news is it's $12k a year, good news if we go that route they accept CC!
  • Life insurance policies for some reason don't accept CC (just tried the other day).
  • I'll have to dig through our bank transactions to see what else I can find and convert.

Ohh No..your poor pup....friends of ours were in a similar situation with their 10 year old Maltese...he has diabetes..needs insulin shots twice a day...they noticed he wasn’t seeing properly....found out he had cataracts and needed $$$$ surgery....they had it done a few months ago and everything is fine.

Decisions, decisions...why did I have to look at the Hyatt Regency in Clearwater Beach...right now I have the Sheraton booked on Marriott points and since I am platinum will get lounge access but the Hyatt Regency is in a more central location and 20k points per night so I could transfer URs. I thought about a "split" stay but DS doesn't really want to switching hotels constantly and we still have a stop in SeaWorld and Universal. @Judique or others- any thoughts?

How many nights are you staying? I'm not at all familiar with Hyatt Regency but I know the location. It might suit your family better. I like the Sheraton because it is away from the action and should be quieter. The Sheraton also has free parking.

With my limited supply of UR's and Hyatt points and my 1/2 million Sheraton points plus free nights the Sheraton or any Marriott property is pretty much a no brainer for me, at least until I exhaust my points. Does your son play tennis or badminton? Sheraton has those. But, it is an older property so if your Hyatt is updated, that might be more appealing to you, plus the activity in the area.

Oh no! Poor puppy (they'll always be our puppies, right?)! I'm not much help here. I'm so sorry. Our pup is getting up there in age too, and I can't imagine what we'd do if he got hurt or sick, and the vet didn't take Amex! Can you pay with $500 VGCs (heh ...)?

Are you writing up a guide?

I mean, @DisneyMandC churns to travel to horse shows...

In all seriousness, don’t some people make it a point to visit all the state fairs like how others have to visit all the national parks? It’s an American pastime!

I'm not sure many people want to follow my churning guide after I described the hotels I stay at :rotfl:

This venti peppermint mocha I'm drinking says otherwise...

omg...you are old enough for credit cards?? It has been way too long a day for math right now.

ok, well dd was born in 1999, so that makes sense. But geez...I'm basically ancient.

No, you just haven't had your rebirth yet, where age doesn't matter to you and it's only other people who think you are old or young or young looking or whatever. Look at your family and you will see that you will basically be young even when you are a grandma, like me. I had my last baby in 1992, but there's a lot more than 7 years that separate that dynamic, until I look at your youngest and then I can identify, because my oldest was born in 1978 and my youngest in 1992, with one also in the middle. Kids somehow keep you young and transitional. Embrace your beauty and power!

Sorry about your pup! My friend just went through that and the dog ended up needing both sides done. Yikes, couldn't believe how much it cost! My dog has a disgusting eye tumor and they gave me an estimate last year for over $1000. Ughhh She still has the eye tumor. Will see what they say this year. Mine is almost 13 so I worry about surgery at that age, plus I really just don't have the money for it right now.

So sorry about your furbaby.

With discussion on Sam's Club gift cards for the new members, if it helps here's my recent comparison chart I shared with the GC thread the other day :

Although buying Disney gift cards at Sam's can be a way to save, I want to point out that Sam's also has a pretty good variety of chain restaurant gift cards at up to 20% off but mostly online. The instore variety was pretty limited.

Good luck. Mine had a partial tear and we decided against surgery. I think that was about 3 years ago and she's doing ok. Hers was going to cost almost 6k I believe, and the vet said she'd have to have it eventually anyway but so far so good.
