Twitter Campaign Update...
I called the number in that tweet - it was the travel booking desk. They ultimately got me connected to CHASE and I had a 20 minute call with an Account Supervisor about my concerns. She listened and sounded sincerely interested in my concerns. She was aware of the issue but somewhat indicated that they felt it wouldn't affect a lot of people.

I then discussed how many Disney fans there are out on various message boards that are very upset about the change. She did ask why I didn't just use my Disney cards to earn points for Disney and I was very complimentary of how robust and awesome the Ultimate Rewards program is when it comes to earning points and that it is much better than 1% on a Disney card. She definitely understood where I was coming from there.

If you want to continue the fight and can spare 10-20 minutes here's what to do:
  • Call the number on the back of your Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (preferably one of these 2)
  • Tell the rep that you want to speak to an ACCOUNT SUPERVISOR who handles ULTIMATE REWARDS. Make sure they're aware you are voicing a complaint about using your Ultimate Rewards for travel.
  • Politely explain how sad you are about losing URs for Disney World
Guys, I know we're grasping at straws here but perhaps if we bombard them with phone calls over the next week they'll realize that this is a significant issue. If you don't have time or really don't care (or think this is dumb), no worries, LOL!

The press conference and flight sales on Tuesday make sense to me, the rest I don't know. I've not put much thought into actual flights, etc.
Thanks, Where does this information come from?

The only problem is the CIP only has a $5k limit. We're definitely going to get a new day-to-day card - either the CSP/CSR or the Capital One Venture. DH will need to be the one to qualify for either one (since I'm now "retired" and staying home with the kids . . . Capital One wasn't happy with that situation when I tried to be the one to qualify for the Venture card, even though it said I could use household income to qualify, but that's a different issue . . .).

If DH and I can't pool URs (mine from CIP and his/mine from CSP/CSR), then I'll probably go with the Venture card. As of today, when February 2020 rolls around, the only card I would have gotten in the last 24 months is the CIP (which I don't think counts towards 5/24 anyway, since it's a business card?), so we've got plenty of wiggle room in the 5/24 - so adding to my numbers by becoming an AU on DH's CSP/CSR doesn't really concern me as much as being sure we can pool URs.

Plenty of us are stay at home parents and get Chase personal and business cards with no issues using household income (+ eBay/craigslist/etc. for the business cards) income. Amex also hasn't been an issue. I've opened 14 cards (personal and business combined) in the past 2 years as a stay at home parent. So don't let Capital One dissuade you!

:offtopic: I know many of you have much more experience with Southern California, looking for some guidance. Trip is in May will be flying into LAX and then head to anaheim for DL, staying 5 nights at the 4pts by sheraton on points. After that stay I will need to get to San diego for a work convention, not sure if I'll drive or take the train. 3 nights for the work convention in San diego. So my travel partner will be free throughout the day to explore but my time will need to be spent mostly at the work convention. Would you stay another night or two in San diego? Right now my ultimate plan is to drive to palm springs stay a couple nights, go to Joshua tree and fly home probably from palm springs airport to save on some of the driving. Any other recommendations of things to do in this general area? I was hoping to see Sequoia National park but looking at it, 5.5 hrs of driving from palm springs and then from there I can't find good options for flights... Thanks for any advice!

I YOLO'd with my 40+ chex hits and applied for a Schwab checking account. I have a couple baby investment/retirement accounts with them right now so I'm hoping they might take that into consideration if they take issue with my chex. No hard pull yet, but I already have margin trading with them on one of my accounts and there are DPs suggesting hard pulls are linked to those applying for accounts with margin privileges enabled. I'm after it for international travel, if they close it I'll use my Fidelity (but I'd rather avoid the 1% foreign transaction fee Fidelity charges).

No, not yet. Not showing in informed delivery for today either.

Sounds like my DS. He drove me crazy. I had him tested for a learning disability...twice. Was told he was fine, just lazy. Total opposite of me. Anyway, just wanted to say that now he is 20 and graduated college with a computer programming degree, so it does get better. :)

Good to know. I had DD tested also. She is also lazy and her school problems were thought to be related to that and "inattention." She does have ADHD also, so that wasn't a surprise. She has no interest in the academic part of school (just the social :upsidedow), she's a freshman now. But does like computer programming and plans on taking an AP computer programming class next year. o_O We'll see how that goes. Hoping that she'll get her act together so she'll get into a college.......

I'm looking through the AMEX Brilliant upgrade offer bc I think I have it too? And I don't see any language about not getting the upgrade bonus because I took the Marriott Personal upgrade, like there is in the welcome bonus offer for new cardmembers. Is that right?? I haven't followed the upgrading super close because I was getting the sad offer before, the 10k or whatever the lowest was.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. When she's ready, maybe @wed100105 can share her thought processes on the Frontier card. I don't know if I've heard anyone else mention it on this thread or the old one.

Sorry! I was busy all afternoon.

We fly Frontier a couple of times a year, and I'd be open to more trips if I had rewards. The free carry on, seat assignments, and family pooling is what really entices me. We buy 5 tickets a trip. I currently don't have Frontier memberships on everyone as you have to set up email accounts for each person. I COULD make more email accounts and have the kids each have one, and maybe that's what I should do.

The bonus is 40,000 points when you sign up and spend $500. The annual fee is $79. However, you earn a $100 flight voucher when you spend $2500 in a year, so the AF is pretty much a wash for us.

We're flying Frontier twice this year so far. The first trip is in April, so I doubt I'd be able to reap any of the benefits for that first trip. The second is in June though.

I don't know this card well, and I've been researching but haven't seen how quickly rewards are posted to your account. Every $1 you spend = 1 mile, and you can combine those points with miles to reach the threshold.

I believe I read that you earn your status effective for the year that you earned it (say April 2019 for me this year), and it's good through the following year. That could be advantageous for me for 2020. :)

Adding---I've found this on their website-
FRONTIER CREDIT CARD
FRONTIER Airlines World MasterCard® holders are automatically eligible. Apply for the card today and start pooling right away!

Doesn't that sound like I don't have to reach 20,000 miles to qualify for family pooling? Isn't a no-brainier then? I could have the 4 other tickets each trip. This year that's about 16,000 miles.

Haven't digested all the information yet, but what stuck out for me was the rumored addition of Hawaii <> LAS in November. Hawaii and Las Vegas have a special connection. Las Vegas is known as the 9th island because so many Hawaii expats live there and it's a favorite destination for locals -- all the time. I think the addition of a LAS route ensures robust demand not only from the mainland to Hawaii, but growth in the Hawaii market to the mainland.

I am trying to do the Sams Club offer on Docs site. Buy a membership and get $45 back with scan and go. Was going to get DS his own card - since he is always taking ours for gas and there is a Sams he can use in college. But I cannot get the link to work. I tried on Chrome and IE and my Iphone. Nothing. Anyone else have issues?

Got the AT&T $100 offer on the Hilton Biz and 10K MR offer on the Biz Green. Squeeeeeee!

Actually gives me incentive to put some spend on those cards cards before I go for the Schwab in a month or two :D

OMG. That's almost as good as if you got both offers on the same card. Since they're considered separate offers, you could then stack them. But this way gives you four bites at the Amex Offers, which isn't bad at all!

I want that offer so bad! And yet no luck & I’m up for renewal next month. Amex needs to reconfigure their targeting!
I didn't get a little pop up window about upgrading like when I logged into my ILs accounts, but I saw an upgrade your card option on the right under the useful links, and when I click it it takes me to a page offer the $5k/100k - maybe yours will too?

Seriously! I'm about a month from renewal too. Really want that upgrade offer!

Not there for me. :(

But it appears that I can now refer from my SPG/Bonvoy personal.

Hi from Sequoia National park area! But I would not try to come here on that trip as I hate driving. Your nearest airport option to Sequoia is FAT. You could do Sequoia instead of PSP and then do a day and see Yosemite and fly home out of FAT if you'd rather tour the forests than the dessert. Gosh, I love the diversity of our geography, really anything you might want to see (fine, we don't have glaciers but we've got the rest of it) but it's spread out.

I'd price out the train to SD vs starting your car rental in Anaheim. It would be easier to start your car rental after your DL trip so you can go SD on your schedule and your partner will need the car anyway to explore SD. I would add on a couple days in SD if there is anything you want to do there. The Zoo is a full day experience and awesome (it's one of the best in the world)- but if you want to feed giraffes biscuits get there before 1pm! Can you tell who arrived at the giraffes at 1:05pm last Sunday? :( Do the bus at the end of your touring time, short line and you'll want a break from climbing the hills. The Safari Park is also very cool, we did an amazing caravan tour there a couple years ago called the twilight caravan tour where they drive you into the animal areas and we got to feed giraffes leaves on the savanna and also a rhino! We did twilight because animals are more active then, the staff who drove us around were incredible knowledgeable. (The Safari Park is in Escondido which is about 45 mins from SD proper, plan accordingly.) Sorry I don't know much else about SD but I do know there's a lot to do- I just tend to be partial to animals :) There's also a SeaWorld but it's been ages since I went so no idea what it's like these days.

PSP is incredibly easy to navigate if you can get a flight from there being a baby airport, SO much nicer than LAX in that regard. But you're not going to be enjoying any Starbucks at your gate and the bathrooms are outside instead of in the terminal area which I remember thinking was odd but like I said, baby airport so plan accordingly (there is a big section to the airport but it wasn't open when I was there, maybe it's only used for Coachella and other high traffic times?).

Checked but no luck. Will keep an eye on that area now though!

Is it wrong I’m counting down the months until DS12 turns 13 to add him as an AU and get some more offers??
My oldest just turned 13. I was pretty excited about that, and I have four more coming up behind her. I foresee lots of time checking everyone's offers in my future!

When I first got my younger DD an AU card, I didn't realize how much easier my life would become. When she would go places with her friends, I always had to come up with cash, which I never had handy. At first, I gave her the card for each planned event and then got it back. As she grew older, I decided she should just carry it with her because many times things came up unexpectedly. She is using an AU on our Disney card. That is keeping Chase happy because, otherwise, nobody would be using that card, lol. Once she starts driving and buying gas, I will have to get her a different AU card with gas points.
I had never considered getting my kids cards until this thread and then it made so might sense. I hate trying to grab cash (I rarely carry any) to send with her to camps, etc. Just yesterday I had everyone in the car and needed one quick thing from the store. I was thinking how nice it will be when her card is here and I can just send her in and wait in the car. So far we haven't gotten the targeted Amex for adding AU's so I just added her to my CSP in the meantime. And I guess I could actually add my next one coming up to that one since I don't that we have to wait for 13 for it.

I’ve only been doing this since last May, but the sign up bonus has been the same since then...to me it’s a good bonus since both are no annual fee cards....get them both a few months apart ....an easy 106k URs
Another way to go would be have your DH get an EIN...then refer him for another CIP....105K URs .....But I’d still recommend getting the other business cards prior to him going over 5/24

if you compare the CIC and CIU to the Personal CF and CFU..which only have a 15K sign up bonus and use a 5/24 slot they look like a great deal....

These are no annual fee cards - 50k URs is a valuable offer. I can't recall the bonus being higher on either of these cards.

The CIU bonus has always been 50k URs since the card debuted. The CIC was 30k URs but bumped up to 50k maybe a year ago(?) and has stayed there. For cards with no AF, that’s a pretty nice bonus.

Probably? You never know in this game, but I think it's unlikely. They are both no fee cards and only require 3k in spend. That's better than the Sapphires which both have a AF (granted, one is waived the first year, but it still exists) and require 4k in spend for the same points.

If anything it's probably more likely to decrease at some point. The CIU is new, it only came out last May and 50k was the big intro offer that just seemed to stay. The CIC had been 30k points until they did a special offer of 50k right before the CIU release. That was advertised like a limited time offer but then it too just seemed to stay.
If the points offered go up I expect either a higher MSR too or at least a tiered MSR like we've seen on some other cards like the CSP. It's hard to predict that though, as Chase just throws something new out randomly sometimes.

Just to add what everyone’s said about (1) these are no fee cards, (2) that require only $3k in MSR, (3) compared to the Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited no fee cards that have only 15k UR bonuses, and the CSP and CSR that have 50k UR bonuses but require $4k in MSR — the CIC and CIU signup bonuses are very good deals!

I also want to comment about your perception that 50k URs “seems a little low.”

Ultimate Rewards points are one of the most valuable points and miles currencies because of the amount and quality of Chase’s travel partners that you can transfer your UR points to their programs, and the ability to pool UR points between your UR-earning cards and your household’s UR-earning cards onto the highest redemption value card (the CSR for a 50% bonus in value) to make 1 point worth at least 1.5 cents towards travel (flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, excursions, attraction tickets, etc.) on the Chase UR travel portal. Or you can always just cash out UR points for 1 cents a piece. That’s at least $500 value in cash, or $750 in travel, and potentially more if you find a transfer for a sweet redemption.

The fact that Chase has so many UR-earning cards, the CF, CFU, CSP, CSR, CIC, CIU, and CIP with signup bonuses and different bonus categories means you can accumulate quite a stash of points from the signup bonuses as you work your way through the portfolio, and as you pick up more of the cards you build out your own wallet that’ll keep earning you category bonuses on most of your everyday spend.

I don’t know if you are suggesting that “50k” UR seems low compared to say the current “100k” Bonvoy offers or the “150k” Hilton Honors offers. Not all points and miles are worth the same. They are each their own currency. If UR points are dollars, think of Hilton points as pesos, and Marriott points something in between. In many situations, it’ll cost a lot more Marriott or Hilton points than using URs to book the same stay. (That’s not to say don’t also earn other points and miles eventually, because that’ll give you options when certain redemptions may favor that program’s own points or miles.) Generally, I would much rather have 50k UR than 50k (and arguably even 150k) Hilton Honors points. Don’t get distracted by these numbers. Signup bonuses aren’t so easily compared across programs, but they can be a good measure of whether a current signup bonus is good or not compared to other cards that offer the same currency and against past offerings.
Thanks guys! I just looked up the CIC and CIU but all I’m seeing is cash back offers for sign ups.
Does anyone have a referral for the 50k they want to send to me?
