Just wanted to acknowledge all of the posts sending well wishes for my Dad's recovery. The fact that they are way too numerous to be able to quote every one shows again the kindness of the community on this board and why I hang out here so often :) All of your thoughts and prayers are so much appreciated. More improvement this morning, so very thankful for that. My Mom is discouraged that he looks the same every time we see him (because he is still sedated and on a ventilator), but I've been trying to tell her that there is still improvement going on inside his body, and I think she is starting to believe it this morning with the latest update. No definite word on when he might be pulled off the ventilator but there is talk of trying to get him moved back to the Bay Area within the next few days, so that will be another source of relief for my Mom. Anyway, thanks again, all!

We currently have 235,000 UR and my plan is to use them towards a cruise in October. I do have a few questions regarding that. Based on the dates we can go it looks like Royal Caribbean on Mariner of the Seas. Is it easier to book direct with Royal Caribbean or just call Chase Cruise and Tours and book with them? Looks like I need a $500 deposit. I'm thinking that I will upgrade my CSP to the CSR in June to get that increased 1.5 to pay off the balance, which looks like it will be due in August.

Regarding this question, when using UR to pay for a cruise you have to use all the points you want to use all at once, at first payment. If you book directly with Chase then first payment is due at deposit and you'd have to use all the points you want to at that time. You could try to book directly with RCCL and then transfer it to Chase but I'm not sure if they still allow a transfer without payment. They changed the phone tree system and I couldn't figure out how to dial a direct extension when I made payment on our cruise the other week, so I'm not sure if you can get in contact with the agents that allowed payment later like we could before. Some agents when accepting a transfer required that all your UR be used at the time of the transfer - IIRC the one agent called our DISer up when it was transferred to take the payment right then - other agents followed that path that it wasn't due until final payment so you could transfer and then pay later. I got one of those but I haven't been able to contact him since (tried one email with no response and then I can't get to his extension). He is still listed as the TA on the reservation but the agent that answered the queue didn't seem inclined to transfer me to him and just said they could make my payment. It worked for me, but feels like a little more HUCA may be involved than before to get it setup. Once you get it setup doing a payment later seems to work fine still.

I use overdrive to download books on my iPad....once I mistakenly hit the kindle option and it stayed borrowed the entire time....
.I hit ...download EPUB ebook....and the books are downloaded to the app...where I can return them early....don’t know if that’s an option on your kindle

I also borrow kindle books using overdrive on iphone/ipad. I find the process annoying though, it brings me to the amazon app to finish borrowing it. I can return them through overdrive though, there's a return button right under the pic of each book i've borrowed. Don't have to go back to amazon to do it.

That's what I do, but mine doesn't remove the books from my Kindle App until the loan actually runs out.

I’ve had the HH biz now for almost three months. Every time I log on to my account it says the enrollment for the PP benefit is unavailable. It’s supposed to come with 10 free lounge passes. Any idea how to be enrolled if it’s never available? Will I need to call or message?

I have NEVER been able to get that to work. I have enrolled numerous times previously, and never gotten any card in the mail. And for the last few months it says what you are seeing.

Oooh, interesting, I never noticed that. I just checked and the last book I returned is still in my kindle app and I could re-read it, but it doesn't count as one of my borrowed books anymore. I was allowed to take out 3 more kindle books, which is the max our library allows. I do like that the kindle app now shows which of my books are kindle unlimited, so I know the others are from the library. I usually have so many on there that I can't remember which ones are going to expire. :-)

...does it count against a ?/24 slot...does it report to personal credit?
Just so you and/or anybody else confused is totally aware...These 2 questions are actually the same question.

ANY credit card account opened in the past 24 months that is currently showing on your personal credit report will count in your X/24 status. Since certain business cards do not report to personal credit bureaus, they do not take up a spot (because they aren’t on your personal credit report).

Looking for advice for my next card Here are our stats for the past two years. We both have Chase Disney and DH has Freedon in addition to our past 24 months. So I am up next in March or sooner if it is a small MSR.

Me:

06/15/18-Chase Sapphire Preferred (1/24)
09/21/18-Chase Southwest Business
10/19/18- Chase Southwest Plus (2/24)
12/19/18-Chase Ink Preferred

DH:

03/28/18-Chase Southwest Plus (1/24)
08/17/18-Chase Southwest Business
11/07/18-Chase Chase Ink Preferred
02/18/19-Chase Ink Unlimited

Here are my thoughts. We currently have 235,000 UR and my plan is to use them towards a cruise in October. I do have a few questions regarding that. Looks like I need a $500 deposit. I'm thinking that I will upgrade my CSP to the CSR in June to get that increased 1.5 to pay off the balance, which looks like it will be due in August. I would still like to get the CIC for myself, and refer DH to the CSP. While I would like to do the modified double dip for him he is semi reluctant and I really don't want to do anything to mess that up. Should I back off of Chase for a while? Our travel next year will be National Parks, maybe Utah in March and Maine in July. We would either do hotels (Best Western) or a campground with cabins for Utah. We currently have enough points to fly Southwest for both trips, but I am not opposed to getting other currency so that when my time comes up to churn the SW cards I have points available. So if I back off from Chase for a bit I'm thinking my options are Arrival +(could use for booking Utah, which will be available to book in August), although I don't really like the $5000 MSR, as we've prepaid many monthly bills. I would prefer to keep that one for this summer when my daughter will most likely be getting braces. Or the business AA cards? I know most of the talk is booking Disney hotels, but would this also be a good option for booking other hotels? I am leaning toward AA, as we are not tied to any brand hotel, and then could also use for flights. Hope this makes sense, thanks for any advice!!
I like your plan CIC for you now and wait a bit and refer DH to CSP. Arrival + next or really any Amex biz for either of you. I believe the SPG biz is no af the first year then you could cancel? I’d take a break from chase after CIC and CSP for a bit.
Def upgrade ur CSP. Do it in early May because RCCL usually does good sales over the holiday weekends. I booked around Memorial Day last year and got an amazing rate for our recent cruise. You can also prepay the tips and the 1.5 redemption is huge!!!!i booked directly through Chase and they quoted me same price with onboard credit that RCCL website had.

I'm not sure if chat works but if you call you can get enrolled. It's a website glitch for some folks that sometimes clears up and others doesn't. Since it's been 3 months I don't think yours will clear up.

Yes, about a mile uphill. Gaylord will have a shuttle. Did you get your tickets?

It turns out my presale code was for noon - (legacy tiers). Anyway, I just got in, there were like 3 rows of presale left, all in the back at $285 each. All the tickets down front were reserved for the meet and greet at 2k a head. I will look at the general on sale this Friday but this one might be a no go for me. I have better seats in Vegas for cheaper. These prices are nuts!

I’ll have to look for that series. He’s such a pain, so picky. I was/still am a voracious reader. As a kid I would ride my bike to the library a couple times a week, bringing back as many books as I could balance on my handlebars each time. Even now, I read a couple books a week. He is getting better, but still rarely reads for pleasure, just for the required 30 minutes a day.

Has he tried non-fiction books? One of my sons disliked fiction but read a ton of non-fiction, especially biographies. He also liked almanacs, and he once found an old set of encyclopedias at my parents and read a good bit of those volumes. Interestingly, he is an especially strong writer now I think maybe because of his non-fiction reading as a kid.

Mine also said that forever. Finally called and they enrolled me and sent the PP card in the mail.

Another free precheck story. My 13 year old step-daughter got it on her return flight after our cruise last month. She was so mad that DH made her go through the regular line so he could accompany her to the gate! All the more reason to get him GE I guess haha.

Just to add to the precheck discussion -- for people who are not going to travel internationally (or who have an abundance of free credits), getting TSA precheck (rather than global entry) is a lot easier and generally quicker.

Where can I find the GrAAvy train posts? I know I saw it once or twice, but when I searched for it, I got nothing. :(

I'm so tempted to join since I saw that people are using it to stay at DL. DH would be totally on board. We stayed for free at Doubletree Anaheim last summer with HHonors points. It was very nice (and super awesome for free), but we've grown accustomed to staying on property and DH was drooling at the DL hotels.
