Has anyone ever used a cc, in full or partially, to purchase a new car? Like new-new, not new-to-you.

Dh is looking at a hybrid, either the Prius or the Kia Nero (Nero? Nemo? lol). We're going to drive both this weekend to get an idea of how they feel, but he'll probably end up ordering one with the features and color that he wants.

Would someone with magic AA hotel/car rates mind checking a hotel for me, just so I can see how much lower rates might be once it figures out I am again a cardholder?
Just for an example, could you check The Westin St. Louis for 5/24-5/27?

Thank you!!!

Looks like @speedfishy has you covered.

Just for comparison, AAA rates for a 2Q room is 238(avg)/nt and $830 total. Same room for regular Marriott member rates is 239(avg)/nt and $838 total. And today Ebates has Marriott at 10% cash back.

So for GE... after the interview, when will DH be approved? Right away, or does it take time to review again? His business flight is Monday night so I think he's getting excited about skipping security lol

I was approved right in the interview and I think everyone I heard about was too. It's almost like the "interview" is just making sure you're who you said you were and getting your picture taken for the card, oh, and your finger prints. Almost forgot about that. As long as you don't seem shifty like you're trying to get away with something, I think it's a formality.

Well, here's something odd: just got an email from Royal Caribbean about my imperial Rome excursion for August. They dropped the included lunch. Didn't drop the price tho. Still $344 for the two of us. Ugh.

At least you won't waste 2 hours sitting in a restaurant when you could be exploring Rome. I still recall doing that exact thing back in 2007, and thinking "I can't believe I'm sitting here . . ." And the food wasn't even that great. That was the end of most shore excursions for me.

From what I've read, dealerships have a limit you can charge. When I bought my car a couple years back, I think they allowed me to charge $3k - or maybe it was $4k (my memory is fuzzy).

I wheeled and dealed online with a dealership and put $5000 down on my new Yukon with my credit card.

I was able to charge $3k in November on our new car.

Thanks :-) We have the cash to pay for this car so anything we can put on the cc will be great.

To tie this to the prior Dave Ramsey discussion, we've been saving for cars since our last car payment in 2006. We've purchased 2 used cars since then, one to replace a corolla we gave to ds for graduation and a little Kia for dd's grad gift. Dh is looking for a more fuel-efficient car with the features he likes. And then we'll save for my future plug-in electric car!

Yep, it all depends on the dealer. Most have a limit that they'll let you put on a CC. 5k seems most common. Someone on r/churning just paid for a car over several CC's because they had a max of 5k per card but they'd let you use multiple cards. (that was crazy, and I bet the finance guy regretted that when the stack of cards came out )

Our dealer was 5k too I think, I wasn't there when hubby signed all the paperwork but I was there when we ordered it and we asked. Put the deposit down on a CC no problem. I don't recall if we got Marriott or Amazon points for it but we got something for it :P Such a shame he had just opened 2 or 3 new cards a few years before that so he was done with new credit and I didn't think to look into new offers to try to persuade him. C'est la vie :)

I was actually listening to a bunch of recordings from his show on Youtube yesterday and man... some of the situations people get themselves into were mind blowing to me. I mean, I have a lot of student debt. But yeesh.
For me debt is a cash flow management tool and just like real tools, I hate having to use it, but I will if I have to. Right now my only debt is mortgage and car loan. Up until this year, I was paying extea on the mortgage. This year I will have a huge spend and will have to go into debt (not serious debt but still). I'm ok with it (sort of). Lol.

Polling the jury is very common, at least where I am. It’s rare I see a jury where it isn’t polled. I wish we had fingerprints on more stuff! Unfortunately, it’s not like what you see on CSI haha. If you put your fingers on a window, we can probably get your prints. But on anything with any texture to it- game over.

In the trial where I served, the knife that was used had been collected as evidence, but hadn't even been processed to look for fingerprints or DNA or whatever. It was still wrapped in the evidence tape etc. Most people on the jury definitely took this as prejudicial- the prosecution could have had more evidence, but the state didn't process the evidence that would have given us more info. Of course, there may have been no info on that knife, and there are finite resources to process evidence (you hear about terrible backlogs of rape kits, for example). Not sure that CSI etc. are very helpful to prosecutors - the fact that the super cool science-y investigations cost $$$ and time that may not be available isn't really mentioned.

Yay for finally completing my United MSR, (well, the first tier, not sure how I am getting to the 2nd tier of spending). Boo for paying $564 for 6 AP tests. But yay for my school finally getting in this century and letting me pay with CC for first time.

Ha ha - I reminded DH yesterday to use his new United on my kid's AP registrations! Not as many as your kid has, but its only sophomore year... Guess I should add a line in my budget for school testing, college applications, all that stuff that comes up in the last couple of years of highschool...

I wish I could pay my insurance with my credit cards. It’s close to $10,000 a year. It’s through Country Companies and is automatically withdrawn. I need to see if paying with cc is an option.

We get a discount for having automatic payments from our checking account, but I go in an randomly make extra payments using a CC when I need to make MSR!

Anyone have any thoughts if a VGC is an acceptable wedding gift?

Yes. Absolutely. Especially if its a random coworker of your spouse and you really don't want to go to the wedding anyway and its costing you $$$ with the gift and the babysitter and you're going to have to make small talk with strangers (including that guy from the office that your spouse complains about all the time) all evening... But maybe I'm just bitter :rotfl:

Yeah, I saw that guy with the multiple 5K charges

We were able to do $3k at the Ford dealership we ended up with with no fee. I think they would let us do up to $5k or $6k but anything over $3k had a fee, 2.5% or 3% for them. We didn't have a MSR we were working on so we just did the $3k, if I had an MSR planned I would have done the fee :)

Ok, that's what I was thinking it was, but I didn't remember.

It takes us a minimum of 6 months to even get back a certificate from our lab confirming that a substance is in fact heroin, marijuana, cocaine, etc. It's awful.

He has helped many get out of debt...I don't agree with his firm anti-CC stance, but there are people who should not be using CC at all. But the generalization (his) that they are evil and everyone runs them up...just wrong.
He definitely helped us get out of debt! I was anti credit card for a long time after. How I view money and spend has changed so drastically since those days. I'm very thankful to DR, however now I enjoy using my CCs for points. We pay ours weekly just because we don't ever want to head down that road again.
He helped us get out of debt too and I use his high school personal finance class with my teens. But his anti-cc stance just gets under my skin. No they aren’t for everyone but many are disciplined enough to use them wisely. And he completely ignores any benefits to using credit cards. I stop the DVD’s to constantly reteach all that.
We are planning on using this class in a few years. :) What grade/age do you think is ideal for it?

Good point. I guess I assumed the included lunch would be short. You're probably right that it wouldn't be. So now I will seek out real pizza at least! But I'd still like a discount.
